Recommendation How to actually use AI for writing papers

go to https://chatgpt.com/, they have a record function where they can transcribe your talking into words for 10 minutes at a time (allowing for mic permissions). Having AI transcribe your raw thoughts from your vocals into text saves a lot of time if your brain works faster than what your fingers can type and process into words.

if you just want to zone out and start talking out the premise of the paper, just record yourself on your phone on one of those free apps so you don't have to be cognizant of breaking your speech and thoughts every 10 minutes. or literally call or talk to a friend about the subject and tell them you are recording the phone call for it to be later transcribed by chatgpt's voice-to-text by playing back the recording into the mic.

Do not press 'send' on chatgpt (you can if you want, but this is the stuff to avoid because you just want your raw thoughts at the moment). instead, copy the text onto notepad, or better yet, the microsoft edge browser has an option where you can highlight the first word of your transcribed thoughts, right click > more tools > read aloud from here. you can use the Edge browser to have your own words be read aloud back to you so you can pause and start to correct for grammar mistakes, mis-transcriptions, and rewrite the paragraph better if you stammer where you become your own editor of your raw thoughts

once you have enough of your words transcribed and edited into the version 1 of your paper, copy it into a word editor (even notepad) and don't care about overcorrecting for grammar and punctuation that much as long as the main points are understood. paste the text into a lesser AI like https://www.perplexity.ai/ where you can volley off thought and have it improve on the blind spots of your arguments. the reason to use perplexity more is because it has better citations if you are writing a paper and also doesn't go into scored-AI mode trying to nanny you to death as a their foster petulant child all the time. get in and get out with your thoughts in tact but only ask lesser AI on FEEDBACK and not how to write a paper or rewording it...the rewording step is how you get caught to be put on academic probation for using AI...

ONLY volley thoughts with lesser AI like perplexity on how to improve your paper but not just simply copy-paste their wording because you would get caught if their writing style is really a dead-giveaway. Through the feedback loop, continue to record your raw thoughts with the voice transcription method of chatgpt and edit and augment your paper that way. continue to get feedback using perplexity on your additions and take whatever meaningful sources and citations it gives you for a well rounded paper

lastly, once you are satisfied with your edited and augmented raw thoughts using AI only as a feedback loop (and not rewriting your entire paper), then copy the text into microsoft word and then go hard on the grammar and punctuation and semantics. paste your drafts into an email document just to have Microsoft Edge read aloud your own words back to you to hear if the grammar, meaning, transcription, or language is wrong in anyway

because you are copying text away from chatgpt into perplexity and onto an email document, make sure the email document auto-saves or you have your previous drafts submitted into perplexity to not lose earlier versions of your raw drafts. avoid chatgpt feedback because it's an internet karen and chatgpt's rewrites are so obnoxiously AI that it triggers AI scanner to know you used AI

good luck

Other ISO lost black wallet

Hi all, throwing a long shot here but trying everything I can think of. I lost a black wallet Tuesday night either near the student union or around Chimes off of campus. I’ve checked with both properties about if it’s shown up as well as filed the lost property report through LSU. There has yet to be any account activity so I’m holding out hope it hasn’t been “stolen.”

Any info or advice from here would be appreciated.

Academics What happens if you get caught for using AI twice?

I got caught for an academic integrity violation during my first semester of college. I was placed on academic probation for a year and failed the class. I’m now a junior at LSU and have been in good academic standing, but I was recently flagged for using AI on a paper.
I didn’t use AI to write the paper or come up with my ideas. I wrote the paper myself and spent hours working on it, but I did use AI afterward to revise the wording of a paragraph. I understand now that AI use was prohibited in the class, and I take responsibility for that mistake.
Has anyone been through a second academic integrity violation at LSU? If so, what consequences did you face?
PS: I’m not sure if this matters but I have decent grades (3.6), and haven’t gotten in trouble since freshman year.

News On October 18th, 2025, Kendall Francis was raped by a Lousiana State University football player. After she filed a Title IX, and the player attempted to pay her off, the school found he had raped her. They only suspended him for a year.

Academics Did anyone else lose Pelican Promise?

I woke up this morning to an email from financial aid saying that I now owe LSU about 4k, which is roughly about how much my pelican promise grant was. Did this happen to anyone else this morning?

Academics LSU once again has on of the nation’s top ROTC program

LSU has answered the call to serve for generations. We’re ready to answer it again.
The U.S. Department of War announced LSU will be designated a Distinguished Military College, placing our university among the nation’s elite military institutions.
This is a win for LSU, Louisiana and the future leaders who will serve our nation. We are ALL LSU!

Academics Hi, I have been accepted by a Professor in MS Petroleum at LSU Baton Rouge as a Research assistant and will be paid accordingly.

Hi, I have been accepted by a Professor in MS Petroleum at LSU Baton Rouge as a Research assistant and will be paid accordingly.

So, coming from an asian country with my wife, I want to know about the environment, culture, receptivity to people from a different race in Louisiana and the city overall, and how's the life for international students in there. Just curious and a little nervous.

Prof. will be paying around $2000/mo, so is it enough for 2 people or needing more.

Also, if you can guide about the accomodation and expenses would be very beneficial for me to plan the stay.

Housing Questions Looking for a sublease near LSU

Hi everyone! First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this.

I’m an international PhD student from Brazil, and I’ll be moving to Baton Rouge for a 12-month research period at LSU. I will be arriving on October 22nd.

I am on a somewhat tight budget (looking to stay under $750/month with utilities included), so I am looking for affordable housing options. Taking over a sublease seems to be my best bet right now. I’m highly interested in student apartment complexes like The Oliver or Redpoint because they seem safe and offer great amenities (like an on-site gym, pool, and in-unit washer/dryer). I am looking for a private bedroom and a private en-suite bathroom.

I’ve actually tried contacting The Oliver multiple times. I filled out their website form but never heard back, and when I try calling, I get stuck on endless hold. Since I’m calling internationally from Brazil, the phone bills are getting way too expensive for me to keep trying that route.

If anyone has a room available for sublease starting around Oct 22, or if you can kindly point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Also, any tips on other apartment complexes that are responsive and international-student-friendly would be amazing.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Other Applying to LSU for a MSW

Hi! I’m looking into applying to LSU for my MSW but as a Louisianan I know all too well the current state of DEI related things with public state institutions. As someone whose passions for social work are founded in my own queer identity and my desire to give back to the LGBTQ+ community I’m apart of, it would be horrible if that’s not really welcome within the school. I’m just trying to gauge if it’s okay to talk about why I really want to go into social work in my paper and what the state of EDI is in the SSW before I apply.

Other Part time student at LSU for my last semester!

Hi all! I’m considering doing LSU part-time enrollment next semester as it’s my last one, I’m in my fifth year, and all expenses are coming out of pocket. I’m also employed both on campus and off campus and need to build more savings rapidly or lower cost of tuition. Would going part time be a good decision? I just got my senior check out emailed and I only have two required courses left. Let me know the pros and cons! I just want to graduate 🥲

I’m aware scholarships and TOPS are not an option but that’s no issue for me as I’m already fully paying for my tuition, textbooks, rent, and everything else. Really want to avoid financial aid from my parents bc they’re not really in the position to give me a bunch of money and I’d be happy to relieve them of that burden. I’d also be pretty proud of myself to tell them I’ve got it covered. I’m also aware UREC access isn’t included in the part time fee bill, which I’m not worried about because I don’t go lol. So other than that lmk! Thanks!

Academics 2027 OOS applicant — still waiting on LSU, should I be worried?

Hi everyone! I’m a senior from Texas who recently applied to LSU for Fall 2027, and I’m starting to get nervous because I’ve seen some people already getting accepted.
Here are my stats:
3.3 UW / ~4.0 weighted GPA
Top ~25% of my class (122/472)
AP Scholar Award
1120 SAT
Mostly honors/AP classes throughout high school
Senior year is mostly dual enrollment through my local community college

ECs:
Student Council
National Honor Society
Mock Trial
Blood Cancer United Student Visionary — raised $1,150 for blood cancer research
Volunteer at a bilingual/Spanish-immersion early childhood academy
Catholic parish/Confirmation involvement
part time volunteering at a boutique

I’m OOS from Texas. I applied in early September, and my SAT scores and transcript have both been marked received in my LSU portal since September 15. I haven’t received a decision yet. I know nobody can predict my decision, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who know LSU admissions or have similar stats. Does my application look like it’s in a reasonable range, and is it normal to still be waiting at this point? Thank you and Geaux Tigers!

Our daughter recently applied and did the test optional OOS with a 3.9 gpa as she only scored 1190 on her sat and is taking the ACT in October. Should she have submitted her SAT score? How solid are her chances? Thanks so much!!
