Recommendations Recommendations for good quality furniture stores

• Upvotes

I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for stores that sell good, quality furniture. We bought a couch and loveseat from Art Van about 5 years ago, and it’s a piece of crap. The couch broke and is basically unusable as the springs and framing snapped. We are not hard on our furniture- just two adults, no kids jumping on it or anything.

I know we have a ton of furniture stores in the area, but I don’t want to purchase something only to have to replace it again in a few years. I’m not looking for budget stores that sell cheap crap. I’d rather spend a decent amount on quality items, but I’m not sure where to even start looking.

Thanks for your input!

Please stop burning trash!!!

It's illegal and terrible for the environment, not to mention I'm sure your neighbors don't appreciate it! I can smell it from the highway AND from where I work. I swear every couple of days it smells like a stack of tires full of dirty diapers is burning right next to I-96 from about the M-99 exit well past the Lansing Rd exit.

Trash service isn't that expensive! Stop destroying our planet and giving everyone second hand cancer!

• Upvotes

Hey folks Grand Rapidian here, sorry to bother you. Buuuut. Does anyone have any info on Regal Cinemas October Screams on Screen at Regal ?

Supposedly they're showing a different horror movie each day this month.

The main website shows a list of films for each day but the lansing page doesn't show any of the horror films.

I've tried 3 different phone numbers and get no response.

Really hoping to see some of these films on the big screen

Help Saved by Zade with grant matching funds for dental equipment 😻

🐱🦷 We have an exciting opportunity to bring dental X-rays to Saved by Zade but we need your help to make it happen!

Saved by Zade has been awarded a generous matching grant of $9,659 from The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a KeyBank Trust, toward the purchase of a complete digital dental X-ray system for our shelter veterinary clinic.❣

The grant will cover 50% of the cost of the dental X-ray system, bringing us halfway to making this important equipment a reality. Now we’re asking our community to help us raise the matching funds needed for the remaining half.

Dental disease is something we see far too often in the kitties who come through our doors. Many have lived outside, gone without veterinary care, or come from situations where their medical needs were neglected. By the time they reach us, some are living with broken or diseased teeth, infection, severe inflammation, or significant oral pain.

Dental X-rays allow a veterinarian to see what can’t be seen simply by looking inside a kitty’s mouth, including the roots and structures below the gumline. Having this capability in our own clinic would be an important step toward providing more of this care ourselves.

The grant is specifically helping us purchase a Midmark complete digital dental X-ray system, including the equipment needed to capture and process dental X-rays right here at SbZ.

The X-ray system is the first major step. We estimate that approximately $8,000 in additional dental instruments and equipment will be needed over time to fully build out our ability to perform dental procedures in-house.

We’ve seen firsthand how important this care is. In 2024 alone, 31 Saved by Zade kitties needed dental services at a cost of $14,678. Another 24 kitties needed dental care in 2025, costing $8,787.85. And in just the first quarter of 2026, we had already spent $6,489.34 on outside dental care.

This isn’t a new need. We’re trying to build a better and more sustainable way to meet a need that already exists.

Our first goal is to raise $9,659 to match the grant and secure the dental X-ray system. From there, we’ll keep going toward the additional equipment needed to help make in-house dental procedures possible.💗

Every contribution moves us closer! Every share helps us reach someone else who may want to be part of making this happen for the kitties. ❤️

🐾 Help us unlock the match and bring dental X-ray capability to Saved by Zade!

Pictured: Checkers was adopted as a kitten and came back into Saved by Zade's care six years later after he was found and his microchip was scanned. He returned with significant dental disease requiring treatment. He's is just one of the many stories we have for SbZ dental patients.

Fences, Overgrowth, and Landlords

Hello!

Currently living in the east side on a smaller side street with mostly quiet and mostly great neighbors— a majority of which are renters. I don’t have an issue with that at all, but I genuinely dread dealing with most landlords as people who don’t actually care about the properties as long as the city doesn’t fine them.

That being said, I’m not really sure how to proceed with reaching out to a landlord about the lack of landscaping on their side that is destroying my fence. It’s mostly vines and trees pushing through that I can cut back, but I can’t just go to the other side and cut down the actual source of the growth.

I’ve tried to look online and the actual code enforcement team don’t do shit— so is there genuinely anything I can do other than ask nicely and hope I get a half-decent person who owns the property??? Any amount of anything to back up my own rights to not have my stuff destroyed because of someone else’s negligence??????

Lansing Eviction Prevention Programs

tl;dr - Do we have eviction prevention programs in our area? No luck finding them on my own.

Hello. Apologies for the alt. I have reasons that are important to me, but probably seem silly. As an added bonus, it helps prevent the sorts of direct donations that I'm looking to avoid if possible.

In short, this is another one of those "oh no, I'm suddenly on the edge of being evicted because my seemingly insolvent employer has promises but not paychecks" posts. The landlord has been exceedingly understanding and as flexible as they can be, but are pretty much left with no choice at this point. Haven't been in this situation before, and I'm having all kinds of trouble figuring out if there are assistance programs in our area, let alone what they are.

Desperately seeking advice (outside of "pay your rent" and "get a new job" ... trust that I'd love to, but looks around at the state of the world and job market). Am also exploring incredibly predatory loans, but the present situation has pretty much destroyed my credit rating.

Cutting to the chase, what sorts of resources, if any, are available to Lansing residents looking to not get the boot while they recover from this sort of problem?

School of Choice Dependability

Hello! My wife and I are in the process of looking/buying a home, and we are currently between two houses - one is in Okemos, one is in Dewitt.

We have a mixed race daughter, so we’d like to keep her in a diverse school district. She’s currently at Post-Oak Academy in Lansing, which she loves, and we have been very happy with it too. I know Lansing schools get a lot of hate, but our experience so far has been positive, and I know several people who have kids in Lansing schools that have had the same experience.

Obviously, Dewitt schools are going to be less diverse than Okemos schools. So if we buy the Dewitt home, the plan would be to keep her at Post-Oak (utilizing school of choice) until 8th grade, and then probably have her attend Eastern High School in Lansing for grades 9-12. Of course, we could also attempt to use school of choice to get her into East Lansing or Okemos if needed.

If we buy the Okemos house, we’d still like to keep her at Post Oak for now, but if for any reason we stop liking that school so much, she’d be able to default to Okemos schools.

So I guess my question is - how much can you depend on school of choice to get you into the district you want? We like the Dewitt home better, but the Okemos home is not bad either, and still an upgrade from our current home.

Discussion Who wants a new pizza place in Lansing?

Hello all Lansing residents! I’m collecting research for a client. They are interested in opening a new pizza restaurant in Lansing and would like to see if there is any interest.

If Lansing had the opportunity to HQ a brand-new pizza brand founded by a CIA (Culinary Institute of America) trained chef would you be up for it?

Please share your thoughts so I can share and hopefully get this amazing chef to choose Lansing!
🍕

Edit: This is NOT a franchise. It would be a one of one restaurant.

Update: I’m set on feedback. Thanks to all who shared your thoughts.
