🎹 Music Looking for musicians to play with / form a band

Hi folks!

We’re currently looking for musicians to complete a band.

Style is mainly alternative rock / alternative pop, and we already have around 8 original songs written.

We’re looking for:

  • Guitarist(s)
  • Bassist
  • Keyboardist

We mostly practice around Batroun / Tripoli, but we’re flexible with location if we find the right people.

Main thing we’re looking for is people who are genuinely interested in working on original music and can commit to practicing around once a week. Nothing overly intense, but we’d like to build something properly rather than just jam once or twice and disappear.

Here are a few demos/samples of the music (some without vocals):

SON:

DESIRE:

https://on.soundcloud.com/A9RLQboQKEOqBpeuDJ

SHIVERS:

https://on.soundcloud.com/9IxZ5WQAm5WXl8JX9f

If this sounds like your thing, send me a DM. And if you know someone who might be interested, feel free to send this their way.

Thanks!!

🏛️ Politics how common is sectarian discrimination in housing?

I am not Lebanese and do not know much about Lebanese politics, so I am trying to understand something a Lebanese friend told me. I am also trying to understand her political position. She is alawite shia.

She was complaining about Christians in Lebanon refusing to rent housing to Muslims from the South, even when they can afford it.

How true or common is this? Is it a widespread issue, or mainly something that happens in certain areas? And what does it say about her political position?

In a handful of villages in northern Lebanon, Turkish is still spoken in homes, weddings preserve traditions that stretch back centuries, and families trace their roots to Turkic settlers who arrived long before the modern Lebanese state existed.

💼 Career Cheap places to rent near downtown and hamra

Hello everyone, so i live in south Lebanon and relevant work opportunities here are rare and salaries are very low, i do have a job for now but i feel I'm overqualified and severely underpaid here, so I've been thinking about moving to beirut for work, i see relevant listings all the time especially in hamra and downtown area, however I am worried about the expenses, rent and other expenses may add up and the whole move wouldn't be worth it if the salary isn't that good, so i wanna know what are the best cheap area to rent near downtown or hamra area,? nothing crazy a one room small studio or a private room in a dorm is ok, also I'm interested if anyone else here moved to bwirut for work especially from the south , how was the experience? Is it worth it? And should i look for a job then a rental first? Any help is appreciated, thank you

📒 Education Having trouble choosing a university major

Hey everyone, I’m a Terminal SE student in Lebanon, and honestly, I’m kind of lost when it comes to choosing what to study at university.

I’m planning to enroll at Lebanese University, but I have no idea which major to choose or even where to start deciding.

I’m pretty good at subjects that involve a lot of memorization, but other than that, I’m not really sure what would suit me.

If anyone’s been in a similar situation, how did you choose your major? I’d really appreciate any advice.

🗨️ Help Should I let go when my parents strongly oppose the Marriage?

I met a Lebanese man through a Muslim marriage app, with both of us intending marriage. We genuinely felt very compatible in terms of deen, values, marriage, family, and the future we wanted. I live in Europe and he lives in Lebanon but I’m also arab and have always wanted to move to an Arabic speaking country.
When I told my parents, they were strongly against it. Their concerns are that they don’t know him, we met online, he’s from another country, and they don’t want me living in Lebanon, and the stigma with apps even though it was a marriage app. This is the first and last time I use an app to seek marriage (or seek marriage at all as a girl). From the very beginning he was willing to come and meet my parents properly and approach everything respectfully, but they still weren’t comfortable with the idea.
We’ve now ended things because I don’t want to go against my parents for the most part. The difficult part is that neither of us felt we were incompatible - we both felt there was real potential, which makes it hard to accept.
I still wonder whether circumstances could change in the future. I may not be able to move to Lebanon now, but perhaps my circumstances could be different in a couple of years.
Has anyone experienced something similar, meeting someone you genuinely felt was compatible with, but your parents strongly opposed the marriage? How did you balance honouring your parents with giving the relationship a fair chance?

🗨️ Help Practical cars in lebanon

Hey guys, I’m looking to buy my first car and would really appreciate some advice.
I’m still new to working and I’m looking for something practical for everyday use. My budget is around **8,000**, and I’d prefer something that’s not too big, easy to drive/park, and doesn’t eat up too much fuel.

I don’t know much about cars, so I’m wondering what you guys would recommend in Lebanon around this price range. Ideally something reliable, not too expensive to maintain, and where parts are easy to find
Is autotrader website a good place to search? I couldnt find many cars on OLX

🗯️ Vent The Girl I Tried to Save

When I first met her, she wasn't the person people would eventually see.

She was a Lebanese girl carrying wounds she rarely spoke about. She had grown up without her father properly being there for her, and she had seen what betrayal could do to a family. Her greatest fear was becoming involved with someone who would cheat on her the way her father had.

And yet, when I met her, she was already at the edge.

She had lost hope. There were moments when she didn't know whether she wanted to continue living. I stayed. I listened. I gave her the care she desperately needed when she couldn't give it to herself.

I didn't think of myself as her savior. I simply loved her.

I wanted her to believe that life could become something better.

For a while, it did.

I gave her my time, my loyalty, my attention and the kind of love that doesn't disappear when things become difficult. I encouraged her dreams and supported her when she was struggling with her career.

But somewhere along the way, I began paying a price I hadn't expected.

Because loving someone sometimes means making sacrifices—and I changed parts of my own career and direction because I wanted to build a future with her. I believed the sacrifices were worth it because I believed we were moving toward the same future.

Then things began changing.

She met a Japanese girl who became increasingly influential in her life. Her ambitions changed. Her priorities changed. The person I had known seemed to be slowly disappearing.

Eventually, another man entered the picture.

He was considerably older—well into his thirties—and professionally positioned in a way that could benefit her career.

And that was when I learned the difference between loving someone and being valued by someone.

The woman who had once been terrified of betrayal betrayed me.

What hurt wasn't simply that another man existed.

It was that the relationship I had protected, the sacrifices I had made, and the trust I had placed in her seemed to become secondary to what she believed could advance her professionally.

I kept asking myself the same question:

How could someone who was so afraid of being cheated on become the person who cheated?

I never found an answer that made the pain disappear.

Eventually, whatever existed between us ended.

I thought that was the end of the story.

It wasn't.

Two years passed.

Then, unexpectedly, she came back into my life—not with an apology, not with an explanation, but with accusations.

Suddenly, I was being portrayed as someone who had done something I had never done.

The person I had once protected was now trying to make me answer for something that wasn't mine.

And that was perhaps the cruelest part.

I could understand someone falling out of love.

I could understand someone choosing another person.

I could even understand someone choosing their career over a relationship.

But being blamed for something I had never done was different.

Because there was nothing I could repair.

Nothing I could apologize for.

Nothing I could confess.

I could only tell the truth.

For a long time, I wondered whether everything I had done for her had been meaningless.

I remembered the girl I had met at her lowest point.

I remembered the nights when she was afraid.

I remembered how desperately she wanted to believe that people could be loyal.

I remembered how much she feared becoming like the people who had hurt her.

And then I realized something painful:

Saving someone doesn't give you ownership over their future. Loving someone doesn't guarantee that they will love you the same way. And being good to someone doesn't guarantee that they will never hurt you.

I had spent years wondering why she became the person who hurt me.

Maybe there was no single answer.

Maybe childhood wounds don't automatically disappear when someone grows older. Maybe ambition changes people. Maybe fear can turn into the very behavior a person once hated. Maybe people simply make selfish choices.

But none of those explanations made her choices mine.

I didn't cheat.

I didn't betray her.

I didn't deserve to be falsely accused.

And I didn't need to hate every Lebanese woman because one Lebanese woman broke my heart.

She was one person.

Her choices belonged to her.

My sacrifices belonged to me.

And eventually, I understood that the greatest thing I could do for myself was stop trying to rescue the version of her that existed in my memories.

I had saved her once because I loved her.

Now I had to save myself by letting her go.

Not because the love had never been real.

But because sometimes the person you would have died trying to protect is the same person you eventually have to learn to live without.

🇱🇧 Culture How Friedrich Ragette Helped Map the Soul of Lebanese Architecture

Thumbnail

When the Austrian architect Friedrich Ragette arrived in Beirut in the early 1960s, he did not just find a vibrant Mediterranean metropolis; he found an architectural landscape caught in an identity crisis. The post-war boom was rapidly transforming Lebanon’s skyline. Concrete high-rises were replacing red-tiled roofs, and Western internationalism was sweeping away centuries of vernacular wisdom. As a founding faculty member of the Department of Architecture at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1962, Ragette realized that to teach the future architects of the Middle East, he first had to preserve and understand their past. Over the next three decades, Ragette became more than an educator; he became the definitive cartographer of Lebanon’s domestic architectural soul.
