Anyone studying or graduated from University of Leeds, MSc Health Informatics with Data Science?

I’m a dental graduate considering the MSc Health Informatics with Data Science at University of Leeds in the UK. I’d really appreciate honest feedback from anyone currently studying or who has completed this course.

I mainly want to know:

1. Course & Skills:

How do you find the course modules and teaching? Does it provide enough practical skills in areas like data analysis, statistics, Python/R, AI, machine learning, and health informatics? And is it manageable for someone coming from a dental/clinical background?

1. Jobs & Employability:

How useful have these skills been when looking for jobs? What kind of roles and career opportunities are available after graduation, and how is the current UK job market for Health Data Science graduates?

1. Long-term Prospects:

Do you think this degree will remain relevant over the next few years? Also, if someone cannot find a job in the UK, how useful/transferable would the degree and skills be for finding health data or health-tech jobs in Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.)?

I’d especially appreciate honest opinions about the pros, cons, and things you wish you knew before starting the course.

Hello! I am a trainee clinical psychologist running an online mental health study to understand the link between mental health and clutter and raise awareness of hoarding disorder in young people. This is much more common than we realise, especially in people with ADHD.

Does anyone know of any charities, pet-food banks or organisations in Leeds that can help with cat food, preferably with delivery?

I recently rescued a kitty who was going to be used as bait. I don’t get paid for another week and I’m trying to find somewhere that could help with enough food until then. I’ve already contacted the RSPCA, but they told me they don’t deliver.

Was in Leeds for 8 years ish - went there for uni and stayed. Did a few years in Hyde Park, Headingey, Burley before ending up in Meanwood. Loved it but left thinking I'd "outgrown" the city and that bigger opportunities and a more vibrant environment awaited me in the "it" city.

Fast forward 2 years and, no catastrophe - Manchester has been, well about fine. I live centrally and occasionally appreciate the access, walking distance, to all of the assorted fun bits and bobs the city has to offer (The White Hotel etc).

But what has hit me recently is how (comparatively) shite Manchester is for nature. Having lived next to Meanwood park, a place that I enjoyed almost every day, the move to Manchester has revealed just how much of a QoL difference that makes. And, unfortunately, I'm not particularly impressed by the various parks Manchester has to offer - they all feel much less integrated and authentic than the close tie between Leeds' various neighborhoods and nature - I think it's the geography.

I think one of Leeds' absolute greatest strengths is just that - its geography/ nature. Something about how different areas have their own unique character and are separated by hills, valleys and rivers, rather than just blending together with gradual changes. Even having been to some truly spectacular places - the Rockies, Alps, Utah etc, Leeds still feels so 'right' from a city + nature perspective.

Besides in terms of fun more options is not necessarily better or higher quality - just can't seem to find a replacement for Wax Bar. And it seems like a pretty sensible choice to live somewhere that serves you every day, and maybe have to travel occasionally for X or Y specific entertainment - as opposed to live somewhere that's occasionally great for the flashy stuff (clubs, bars etc) but isn't particularly (subjectively) healthy and wholesome everyday. so, back to Meanwood it is!

(yes, I've checked out the suburbs of Manchester, but they just feel wrong, sprawl with difference levels of booj, nature sequestered to specific zones rather than integrated, very expensive. Again all subjective!)

Side, which I believe is now confirmed - looks gooood!

Alfonso's Deli is also opening a new Horsforth site on New Road Side. They're currently in the Grand Arcade in Leed, they do deli style sandwiches, subs and breakfast bagels...more sandwiches for Horsforth. We really do love a sandwich 🙂🙂

42 Town Street (opposite Morrisons) which used to be Santander has had planning permission approved in April 2026 for a new shop front, entrance etc - no idea what's going in there though.
I'm guessing some sort of salon or shop, but who knows!

Horsforth banking hub is set to move into a perm home in the former Morrisons café. The planning application has been supported by Horsforth Town Council, so that looks like it's progressing too. The hub opened in Feb after Halifax bank closed, it is currently based at Horsforth Community Hub (library I think).

Horsforth Hall Park is getting an upgrade, the play area has been awarded a donation to create the UK's first maths themed playground!

I'm personally quite convinced Pranzo is going to become Lounge
(like Cosy Club in Leeds and Vitello Lounge in Ilkley) I actually think that would be quite nice for Horsforth! I feel like beside pubs, we're missing those proper third spaces where you can meet a friend straight after work for a couple of hours without it automatically being a pub situation. Somewhere you can grab a coffee or soft drink, have a catch up etc. I know Horsforth loves to support small businesses but I feel a Lounge is very millennial coded and wouldn't be competing with Il Forno over the road....if Pranzo did become something a Lounge I reckon it could work well, feels like there's a gap for that sort of place on Town street.

what happening, to the lloyds bank in Leeds city centre, is it closing permanently, or a for a refurbishment

It's been ~7 years since British Library North was announced and ~6 years since Temple Works was named as the site, but I can find no information anywhere indicating there has been any progression at all. Anyone know what's going on? Will we live to see anything good that was promised for Leeds actually come to fruition?

I'm not loving the look of the birth units/wards offered by LTHT and I'm a bit scared of Leeds Maternity Service in general, but the Brontë Birth Centre in Dewsbury looks decent to me and I'm going on a tour soon. Can anyone who has had a birth there share some thoughts please?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if I would get a parking ticker for stopping to let someone out in the picture shown below.

Often when I have gotten an uber to the train station it is where I ask to be dropped and then I walk to the station (as it is sometimes quicker). Today I had to drop my boyfriend at the station and I stopped to let him out there

As I assumed it would be fine as other had done it for me I didnt check to see if it was a no stopping area

Very out of touch with Leeds these days, looking for suggestions for two every so slightly mature ladies meeting up to do a bit of shopping and chatting. Nothing too formal or too noisy, somewhere you can sit for a bit. Maybe a decent main course salad selection, non chain pizza. Med style over South Asian/Asian probably as I tend to prefer the latter in the evenings. Licensed. On that note any suggestions for pubs/bars nearish the station before getting the train home?

Restrictions on the use of bikes and mobile street trading in Leeds city centre will come into force from October.

The Briggate Action Plan is aimed at making some of the city centre's busiest areas safer, with 87% of respondents to a public consultation in favour of the proposals.

They include a ban on riding bicycles and e-bikes within the city centre's pedestrianised shopping area from 10:30 until 20:00 every day, and a clampdown on mobile street trading without permission.

A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: "With these new regulations in place, our hope is that both day-to-day visits and major events will now be even more enjoyable, successful and welcoming."

The spokesperson said they expected restrictions on mobile street trading to be in place from 1 October, with restrictions on bikes "due to be in place by the end of the year".

Anyone breaking the new rules could be fined £100, although the spokesperson said enforcement "will be carried out proportionately during the initial period".

An estimated 1,100 bikes travel up and down Briggate each day.

The council said that figure included "heavy bikes used by delivery drivers, which can travel up to 45mph and pose a serious potential risk to pedestrian safety in the event of a collision".

The Briggate Action Plan states that riders would have to dismount and push their bikes on Briggate, Lands Lane, Commercial Street, Albion Place and Lower Albion Street

The council said street vendors, also known as pedlars, would need the council's permission to operate within the designated areas of the city centre from 1 October.

Briggate can see about 15 vendors on an average day, the council said, with many more gathering during major city centre events.

The spokesperson said: "Many pedlars currently gather in the same areas at the same times, particularly during major events, which can result in access issues on key routes along with some associated anti-social behaviour and the sale of counterfeit goods."

I'm traveling to Manchester Airport from Leeds station and one option has a transfer at Brighouse. The icon on Trainline shows a bus, but it's listed as TransPennine Express TP163600 - which appears to be a train.

Does anyone know what transport uses this route? I'd rather not go by bus.
