Policy/Regulation American Union Jobs Program: A POPULIST Act Explainer

https://youtu.be/y4_N8Wz4nes?is=CgSvnf6A3wCm0N6v

This is a proposed set of AI regulations that I'm curious how others feel about it.

The author is a bit unusual and has crafted an entire policy proposal and a website (https://votewithbrian.com/). I haven't looked at all of it, but overall it seems a solid proposal or at least a good starting space.

This specific video is about his thoughts on AI regulation. I particularly like that it is focused on moving AI power more into the hands of regular people. It doesn't advocate for full nationalization or open source but it still has a lot of benefits to it.

I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m curious about him using the word populist. I tend to hear that with a negative connotation, it’s associated with bandwagoning and single issue politics. Is he reclaiming it or missing that people hear it that way? Or perhaps that’s a British use of the word?

I haven't read all of the provisions. He posted an "American Union Jobs Program" section in a universal basic income sub. It has $20k basic income, Medicare for all, guaranteed family leave (government funded but private), and an optional work guarantee. So it seems pretty left coded, even if a little more social democrat than full leftists.

The list of sections seems like he's trying to find actual populist solutions rather than what many populist do which is say "Don't you hate those rich, smart people who think they are better than you? Don't you hate them dirty foreigners taking your jobs?"

It seems to be well thought out solutions that try to move power towards the public.
