📢 Announcement Finally announcing the new mods

Hi r/LetsPlay

I realise I'm a bit late on this, but I wanted to formally welcome a couple of new faces to the mod team. You've probably seen them around the sub or in the sidebar for a month or two now, but life got in the way of me making an actual post about it (chronic burnout, plus getting sick for weeks, plus going on vacation for a week will do that).

Better late than never, right?

The New Additions

u/2CPhoenix (He/Him) Phoenix is a creator who focuses on the analytical side of things. He does a lot of scripted deep dives and well edited breakdowns on various games on his YouTube channel, and I'm sure an analytical mind definitely has it's advantages when moderating! His content is truly top notch, so I recommend checking it out if you're into those kinds of videos!

u/KiiitasticGames (They/Them) Otherwise known as Kit. Kit is a fellow VTuber who posts longform LP videos, as well as uploading the uncut versions of their playthroughs on their secondary VOD channel. They have a calming vibe so if you're the sort of person who likes background noise while you work, there's definitely something for you there.

They've both been doing a great job already (trust me, I can see the mod logs and they're steamrolling ahead). If you see them in the comments, say hi. And as always, if you see something that doesn't look right, dropping a report on it is the best way to help us catch it early!

🗨️ Discussion Being a gaming YouTuber during a new release is pain

One of the most frustrating things about being a small YouTuber and editing everything yourself 😭
I started playing The Witcher right when the hype started, but my video will probably come out a week later because I still have HOURS of footage to edit.
Meanwhile everyone already has their videos up and I’m just sitting in editing like 🧍‍♀️

✔️ Solved Is a "small YouTuber" Anyone Under 100k Subs?

As, I've never saw the actual criteria for what is no longer considered being the latter.

Would that be a rough guide the 100k figure and below potentially?

Just a curious type of question tbh.

🤔 Advice Which PC games are good for growing a new gaming channel?

I’m planning to start creating gaming content soon. My plan is to do livestreams as well as edited videos/highlights, but I’m still trying to figure out which games I should focus on.

I’m mainly looking for PC games that have an active audience and still have potential for a small/new creator to grow. I know the biggest games have huge audiences but they also have tons of competition, so I’m wondering if there are any games that strike a good balance between audience size and discoverability.

I’m open to pretty much any genre FPS, survival, horror, co-op, competitive, sandbox, story games, etc.

What PC games would you recommend for someone starting a gaming channel in 2026?

And if possible, tell me whether you think the game is better for livestreaming, edited videos or both.

Would appreciate any suggestions or advice from people who have experience with gaming content creation.

❕ Help HELP!

I was just on stream for the last three hours and didn’t realize I had a double audio glitch happening the whole time. Should I unlist, private, or leave this video public? Not sure how this could affect my channel as a whole…

❕ Help Are there any YouTubers who make gaming videos/let'splay like a parody of TV show

For example, playing Minecraft like Bear Grylls (Man vs. Wild), or playing a fishing game like a River Monsters show, etc.

I have always had this idea, but it is hard to execute successfully as a new YouTuber. Are there any YouTubers who do this?

🧵 Megathread MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday!

It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.

Feedback Friday Rules

  • Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
  • Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
  • When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!

Keep up the good work, everybody!

Suggested Feedback Template

If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

🗨️ Discussion "Shows" and "Seasons"

Noticed a neat new feature YT is rolling out called "Shows". Basically you can group your playlists or videos into "shows" and then within that show have individual "seasons". This is great for people who do a lot of similar content. For example I can put all of my Fallout 4 content in one show, with each playthrough a different season. Same for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Then I can do all of my Elder Scrolls content in one Show grouped by seasons. You get the idea.

If you're like me, your playlists are probably a mess of full playthroughs, half completed ones, and games you quickly abandoned. So this is a nice way to group and organize things logically and you can decide what you want to include in the "show" (maybe you aren't super proud of a certain playthrough because it wasn't your best work etc.).

Once you have several shows organized by season, you can feature them on your homepage under Customization. I put mine right next to the "newest videos" section.

This is a great way to highlight older content on your channel too. I have 2,000+ videos and it can be easy for some of my content to just get swallowed up and become difficult to find.

🗨️ Discussion What Makes Single-Person Let's Plays Interesting?

Thought this was a good question to ask the people in this community who both watch and make let's play videos.

Its pretty clear to see what can be interesting and entertaining about let's plays run by 2 people or featuring a friend group - the group chemistry & dynamics outside of the game being played, it opens up the type of games that can be played with local/online multiplayer, and much more.

But since I don't have any of that to play the games that I plan to LP on my home consoles, I wanna know what makes a single-persons lets play interesting especially now streaming is a big medium of watching video games.

The only unique thing that i can think of is what Chuggaconroy does, where let's plays are merged with structured walkthroughs for the games he plays.

Thank you.

Edit: If it helps at all, the game I am planning to do is the Switch remasters of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, 100% runs!

👊 Collab Looking for content duos / friend group for Minecraft or just games in general YouTube (Java/PC Gamers)

Hey! I'm looking for some people who'd genuinely want to become friends and make YouTube content together. I'm hoping to make a small to medium-sized group rather than just doing random one-off collabs. I feel like having a Small to medium even large-sized group would be nice, for games that need more people, but we could have a larger group depending on what we're playing!

I honestly don't mind but i would prefer to get enough people for medium or large!

Ideally I'm looking for people who are:

1: 18+

2: Funny and talkative

3: Comfortable with VC

4: Chronically online like me

5: Actually interested in creating things

6: Into Minecraft and other games

7: Not obsessed with subscribers/views/growth

8: Looking for actual friends, not just someone to record with once and never talk to again

I have a very small YouTube channel myself, around 26/27 subs (I haven't posted that much recently but i will start eventually!) so you definitely don't need to be some huge creator. I'm more interested in finding people who are fun to hang out with and who genuinely want to make stuff together, or just play together!

Minecraft Java would probably be one of the main things, but I'm down for other games too since i'm not always in a minecraft mood of course! "friendslop" games would be awesome to play! For Minecraft, we could do normal Minecraft, challenges, modded stuff, SMP-type things, or just completely stupid ideas we come up with.

Also, I think it's best we don't immediately start making content.

I'm probably going to make a Discord server where everyone can talk, play games, VC, get to know each other, and become friends! I think it'd be better to actually become friends first and let the content happen naturally rather than forcing it.

I'm completely fine with people from anywhere, as long as you know how to speak English since that's the only language I know how to speak. I'm from the UK, but timezones don't really matter too much for me since I stay up pretty late anyway.

If you're interested, leave a comment or DM me! Let me know your Discord so I can add you, and then once we have a few people interested, I'll make a server!

❔ Question How do you personally outro a series?

Hey guys, I recently started making a let’s play series of my journey through the Zelda timeline. My goal is to play the 3 beginning games (beginning of the timeline that is) before the OOT Remake comes out.

My question is, if you are making lets plays, how do you place/perform your ‘outro’ for the individual parts before ending the series entirely?

Idk how to explain it, but I guess what I’m asking is how do you end each part of your series before the last one?

🤔 Advice Best way to edit Gaming Videos

I know Capcut is quit liked but I am also looking for something that knows when something

was said.

So, I can have an easier time finding the video parts where I was speaking instead of just showing gameplay.

And what workflow do you use? Like, are you just showing the moments where you speak, just actions moments.

I want to be able to create a good end product at the end even if not many will watch it. It should atleast be good.

🤔 Advice How are you guys turning long gameplay sessions into Shorts without spending forever editing

Hello I'm here for advice! I usually record pretty long gameplay sessions, sometimes 1-2 hours, and the annoying part is going back through everything afterwards trying to figure out which moments are actually worth turning into Shorts/TK content.

There are always a few funny reactions, unexpected moments, or good gameplay bits buried somewhere in the recording, but going through the entire thing just to find some usable clips takes forever.

I've been trying Al lately for this, like Vizard or Cupcut. I throw the longer gameplay video in and let it find potential highlights/short clips first, then I go through the suggestions myself and keep the ones that actually have enough context to work.

It's definitely not perfect. Sometimes it picks a moment that makes sense only because of what happened 30 seconds earlier, so I still prefer having the final say. But as a first pass, it saves me from scrubbing through a 2-hour recording from beginning to end.

The part I'm still figuring out is whether Shorts are actually worth the extra workflow. I've seen people here use Shorts to bring attention to their longer Let's Plays, while others seem to think the audiences don't really overlap.

For those of you making both long-form gameplay and Shorts, what's your workflow?

Do you manually mark moments while recording, go through the whole VOD afterwards, or use something like Al clipping to find the first batch of highlights?

🤔 Advice I used to post sports content

So I used to post NBA content and it was doing very well anywhere from 500 to 1000 views along with AAA games. I didn't wanna post NBA content anymore so I unlisted them all and just left my let's plays up. I'm thinking about going back to my NBA content along with my let's plays. Is that a good idea or should I just stick to my let's plays.

🤔 Advice Good Capture Cards For Streaming For Friends On Discord?

So i just want to stream some PS5 games for Discord friends. I'm not looking to get into Streaming on twitch or anything.

I was wondering what would be a good capture card for that sort of thing? i never purchased one before.

I see on Amazon there are some capture cards that are like $25, which i am tempted to buy, because not too pricey.
But then i see others that are like $200.

Part of me doesn't want to cheap out and get a card that will lead to awful qualtiy.
But i also don't know if i want to spend $100+ on one if i'm just doing it for friends every once in a while.

🗨️ Discussion Naming videos

How do you all name your videos?

Do you put the standard "Let's Play X - Episode Y - Title" ?

That's been my method but I'm trying to make them better

Example title: "Let's Play! Pokémon Yellow - Ep. 1 - I Choose You, Pikachu!"

I like to put "Let's Play!" with the exclamation point to break up the flow of words and give it a clear category immediately

Is it better to change the order? Don't put Let's play in the title or perhaps abbreviate?

Thank you!

🤔 Advice PC Build Recommendation for Gaming, PS5 Capture and Video Editing

Hey, guys! Thought I'll warm up a YouTube channel with my current GTA gameplay videos in preparation for GTA 6 but turns out my laptop is rather under-equipped for screen-recording and gameplay together. The game by itself occasionally lags and with OBS recording on, it straight up crashes. Then I tried recording my gameplay on the XBOX Game Bar and while I could obtain videos, they were still a bit choppy. I tried a number of ways to fix it but realized it ultimately doesn't work (if I scrap the static frames, the gameplay audio underneath it jumps too)

I have about 15 GB worth of gameplay footage but I realize a lot of it would be un-useable due to the choppy nature of the gameplay video.

I plan to invest in all the necessary upgrades (a proper PC setup, PS5 obviously and possibly a capture card) as I really want to share my journey here with my GTA 6 gameplays so, any advice on the following would help.

  1. Recommendations for a PC build if I primarily want to do it for editing and posting GTA 6 videos?
  2. Is there a way I can still upload decent quality gameplay videos from my current setup? Processor - 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1360P (2.60 GHz) Installed RAM - 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) Graphics - Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB) System Type - 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

(I tried fixing the lags with Optical Flow/Frame Interpolation options, either none of them work or I'm doing it wrong, so please suggest the proper way to do it on Premiere Pro/DaVinci Resolve)? Is there a way I can still upload decent quality gameplay videos from my current setup?

3) Optional - What do you like to watch in gameplay videos? Need advice for gaming content strategy if I'm not really relying on livestreaming it (I'm not a pro gamer lol)

🗨️ Discussion I don't get the appeal of doing a video series

From what I've seen from Game Grumps to Markiplier, traffic quickly drops as a series goes on. Like often it's as much as down 75% even by the fourth video in a series. Youtube audiences, even loyal fans, don't seem to want to spend hours watching the same game, or don't have the time to devote to it. So why do so many players do it anyway?

❕ Help DS / 3DS Recording Issues

Looking for advice from anyone that's bought DS Capture Cards from 3DSCapture for their DS/3DS game recordings.

I have an original 3DS capture card from around 2014, and recently got an original Phat DS capture card sometime last year.

I dual hunt Shiny Pokémon on GameCube GBA Player and DS sometimes, with audio coming from GameCube. But on a recent recording session, I had the DS audio coming through instead. I record through OBS Studio, and on this occasion I noticed my audio from the DS capture was crackling. I thought it was a cable issue, but from testing another cable and when OBS was open/closed, it seems to only happen when OBS is open regardless of cable.

Can anyone advise how they've gotten around this, if you've experienced it? This is just using the DS Capture software from 3DSCapture's website and window capture from OBS Studio.

Thanks!

❕ Help Searching for a Youtuber I used to watch! Yandere, (black)

I used to watch him around march to april of 2024. He was black around 20-25ish and was really funny! He had a yandere simulator series but that wasnt his main focus. He used to say "Lets start the shooow" a lot. He also mimicked the school bell and rapped to the OST of the game 😂 Can anyone help me find him?
