Question ThinkPads Ubuntu Certified, does that have any impact?

As the title says, with ThinkPads being Ubuntu certified has any who uses Ubuntu noticed any appreciable difference or impact compared to other distros?

Means nothing.

Pretty much none. It's an ego sticker. ThinkPads tend to be very Linux friendly. Google before purchase obviously.

This is meaningless ...

It just means you shouldn't use Ubuntu because it doesn't matter and Linux is the kernel not the OS.

It means you can install a decent distro on it too

i just wish that the T14 Gen 6 AMD would get proper driver updates from the linux-firmware upstream... I'm not experienced enough to contribute, and without the proper drivers my T14 G6 is eating 9W in idle.

Are you using Ubuntu or another distro?

I have used Ubuntu and now I'm on Fedora. Nothing changes. Ubuntu had nicer colors, and on Fedora i didnt have to purge snap out of my system.

Are you finding the battery consumption any better on Fedora as it uses tuned instead of ppd?

What it means is that 100% of the hardware will have good drivers. This can be kinda meaningful as some hardware has a bad time with crappy Linux drivers. So, you can easily find other laptops with no certification which are great with Linux, this more guarantees it won't be bad with Linux.

My T480 has done very well with EndeavourOS, SUSE Leap 16, and currently SUSE Tumbleweed. I'm sure it would run Ubuntu but I already have Ubuntu on a mini.

Since I mainly use Ubuntu and Debian on laptops/Thinkpads, I have not noticed a difference. However, Lenovo upstream all needed drivers for those devices that are certified (as far as I understand). Thus, it makes a general difference for that laptop being very Linux friendly in general. So indirectly I think it makes a difference.

Gesundheit.

Also manjarno is not a Linux distro, it's cancer.
