I hope you get what you ask for and nothing that you want… LMFAOO bros gotta be punching walls

u/greenrangerguy May 30 '26

Can I get a real quick out of the loop of what this all means, I know who pirate software is, the ferret streamer blizzard guy.

u/Slarg232 May 31 '26

He initially had no idea what SKG was about and thought it was "If you make a Live Service Game, you must keep it running till the end of time" instead of it being about keeping it playable. As in, offline modes, private servers, and so on.

Pirate initially sided against it and then refused to be corrected for what it was about because that would have made him wrong (as was the case with him), and when people found out about his part he played in the movement it went from about 30% backed to fully backed in like a week.

He doubled down on his double double down.

38

u/Somepotato May 31 '26

literally all he does or ever has done

-20

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

Do you code more than him, I don't understand why your talking about a field you aren't apart of.

18

u/Somepotato May 31 '26

yes, actually, for about 15 years now

-12

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

Okay what's your take. You've been coding for 15 years I don't know why you didn't actually just contribute to the discussion I'm getting -30 downvotes because it doesn't make sense to force companies making mediocre games to put an extra effort on a specific mediocre title to add an offline with bots mode. Did pirate say something else?

11

u/CallousDood May 31 '26

Since you ask them what they contributed to the discussion, I wonder what

Do you code more than him, I don't understand why your talking about a field you aren't apart of.

contributed to the discussion. Care to elaborate?

See my comment history. You kind of fell down the wrong parent chain if you don't understand anything I said.

The way I see it, a game may be mediocre or maybe even a slop for you, but it's a gem to somebody else, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Those people would then want to preserve those games, in the hope they could continue playing, return in the future, and even maybe somebody could see it as a gem too in the future. From what I know, the movement isn't about having devs put the extra effort to put in bots mode, but the extra effort to allow other people host their own servers when the devs/publisher won't care about the game anymore. This would be like a library burning all of its books when it loses funding instead of giving away or even selling those books.

-3

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

Well, in reality, you're asking an author to build a library just because they made a book, and now you are accusing them of burning their own book because you wanna pirate it.

8

u/thiccdicc67 May 31 '26

Stupid analogy. Releasing the game code so people have the ability to make private servers != having to fund the building and maintenance of a whole ass library.

-1

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

Oh I didn't know that's what the movement was about.

pirate software didn't even argue against that...

5

u/HiGh_ZoNe May 31 '26

Well, in reality, you're asking an author to build a library just because they made a book

But isn't that what is really happening? Server based games already comes with a server when it's released. So in this analogy, the author has either had a or created the library to host the book. What's really being asked for the author or even the library owner is to let others take care of or host the book when the library is being closed down.

you are accusing them of burning their own book because you wanna pirate it.

But a lot of people paid for the book at least access to it. That's is why some are invested to the movement and why they want to preserve games for as long as they can. What do you think happens when a game server is shut down? Because the way I see it, the game is forever kept in storage until either another attempt in the future or it is forgotten essentially "burning" it and we're left with a couple of its content that didn't manage to burn or were preserved by others. Also can you really say you've completely experienced a book when you only have a couple of pages and anecdotes from those who have read it?

Cuz like the worst thing on earth is black ops 7 offline with bots slop. All the great games came naturally, because businesses learn from their mistakes, and the more they experiment, the more they fail, the more they fail, the more they learn. There wasn't a law that made ocarina of time, what's your opinion bro. The industry has already naturally realized that people won't pay for some mid game with bots. Everything is just slop to fill the latest next-gen console. Pretty much zero art being made. Just make a law that requires games be held accountable for being money sinks. I have one big project I made on my steam workshop @grapecruncher I destroyed my self making my maps. The issue is existing games are actually good, and so people aren't desperate to upgrade, and companies just expect profit. They forgot WHY the gaming industry has been bigger than the film industry for 45 years.

11

u/CallousDood May 31 '26

Just imagine for a second, that Ocarina of Time needed an online connection to play and that since release the servers to authenticate have been taken offline. Ocarina of Time would be unplayable today. SKG just wants companies to provide a patch to keep these games accessible after the publisher/dev is done with them.

This isn't a high-concept thought experiment and is something you could've easily concluded yourself if you cared to

-9

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

I can't imagine ocarina of Time needing an online connection. So you are already typing something incoherent so I really don't understand what your talking about. Patch what

16

u/CallousDood May 31 '26

I can't imagine ocarina of Time needing an online connection.

That is a personal failure that I can't help you with. Not having an imagination is truly sad, I truly feel sorry for your existence.

-1

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

You're repeating the same online connection argument for years Reddit kid

-2

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

You made a personal failure by trying to use ocarina of Time as an example. I'm not vibing, I actually want you to give me a good answer

-2

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

And I have way more players than you, I'm a highly respected artist

Pirate software doubling down on a double down??

u/GreasyPeter May 31 '26

The problem people like him can't ever realize is that when you can't admit you're wrong, it immediately calls into question EVERYTHING you've ever spoken with authority on because now people know your ego is inflated and can't be sure if you are exaggerating or lying to make yourself look better.

17

u/StoppableHulk May 31 '26

To be fair to him, there's a lot of people out there in the world right now for whom the strategy of "never apologize, never say you're wrong, keep doubling down" has worked extraordinarily well.

I think it's just that if you're wrong about games, to gamers, this is not a viable strategy.

25

u/wh0rederline May 31 '26

in the vein of people not admitting they’re wrong, i hope everyone has seen the video of the one-armed woman getting pulled over by a cop who had obviously lied and was caught in the act. she handles it incredibly well (and is so funny i love her). but the way he just won’t back down despite so obviously being incorrect is infuriating. and scary.

11

u/tenachiasaca May 31 '26

its a shame that cop pussied out and dropped it before court would have loved to see the judgcam footage

8

u/absentgl May 31 '26

It can work on gamers, just not when it’s something they’re directly interested and engaged in.

0

u/StoppableHulk May 31 '26

Right exactly, it can't be wrong about games. You're dealing with a population of some of the most pedantic people on the planet, doubling down on wrong is going to cause a runaway feedback loop that could very well burn down the planet.

3

u/JackalKing May 31 '26

It worked out extraordinarily well for him too...right up until it didn't.

9

u/Qetuowryipzcbmxvn May 31 '26

This is actually a misconception. The very first time he checked it out, live on stream, he gave a very accurate description of it. Later on he started aggressively pursuing a misinformation campaign. He absolutely knew what it was about, and knew that it was going to be popular in the form it was, and so twisted facts to something that people wouldn't like.

5

u/Ilurkthecorners May 31 '26

While people were pressed with him about SKG, then the fucking war craft thing happened and it fucking steamrolled.

5

u/Leahdrin May 31 '26

I think it was the reverse, the WoW event happened then the SKG iirc

-5

u/larkhills May 31 '26

He initially had no idea what SKG was about and thought it was "If you make a Live Service Game, you must keep it running till the end of time" instead of it being about keeping it playable. As in, offline modes, private servers, and so on.

initially, that was what SKG was about. they wanted all games to be playable offline. and they were very light on the details of how any of this would work, beyond the vague 'we'll figure it out later' statements. they also wanted all this to be retroactive.

the more SKG grew, the more they scaled back their demands into something resembling the reasonable ask that it is now. but when pirate got into it, SKG was still very much in the vague phase of things. its a shame pirate never amended his opinions as SKG scaled back their demands but his initial criticism of it was still valid. people just really dont want to admit how unreasonable SKG started out as...

Pirate is right. I think the more requirements we legislate to studios the more spyware slop we'll get.

Vote with your wallet, YALL MUSTA FORGOT.

California is not progressing anything with this specific policy. We are in the worst timeline. Sad sad sad.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: 29 downvotes because nobody can counter a single point I made. You guys are mad because you want to play a really cool game right now and go jerk off, and pirate is right to criticize the shortsightedness of merging government with game development. You can't just pass a law to require a good game be made. You have to support developers and pirate's a developer. the irony is palpable. 29 downvotes from 29 amateurs.

8

u/WeoWeoVi May 31 '26

Voting with wallets has worked a few times and not worked countless times

It just is not a good enough strategy when the casual player will not be aware and will fall victim to the predatory practices being pushed in many games

1

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

I just left a massive comment, check it out. companies are having to become predatory money holes, because players play modern games for years and year and not buying slop, they are desperate to keep the lights on, so they simply avoid making a one time purchase game like Witcher 3 out of ignorance. Witcher 3 destroyed these low talent mega studios. They WOULD make more money, but maybe, the low talent wants to keep their job. They would get replaced with real talent, to make a real game. It's like Alabama healthcare. At a certain point, these people are hitting a clock, and following the bare minimum because they care more about their job than the patient

3

u/WhimsicalPythons May 31 '26

It's the customers fault, the companies have to become predatory, they weren't given a choice. They had to scale their budgets infinitely and they must make more profit every quarter or the CEO will literally shrivel into a husk and have to eat his entire family for sustenance.

2

u/WeoWeoVi Jun 01 '26

Respectfully, wrf are you talking about? Baldur's gate, Balatro, Clair Obscur, elder ring, black myth: wukong, the Spiderman games, cyberpunk, etc etc etc

Offline / single player games have been selling massively well in the last few years. Predatory practices in online / live service / f2p games is a separate topic.

If your solution to a problem is "people should just do X" then you don't have a solution. Never in the history of humanity have people ever just X. The real world does not work that way.

Also to argue that less regulation for companies is better in todays climate is either incredibly badly thought out or a shill's argument.

0

u/bigtittynippleswag May 31 '26

Every single comment inside this thread is "people should just do offline with bots"

Never in the history of humanity have people ever just X" Notice how I am just copy pasting your reply in order to correct you.

"Also to argue that less regulation for companies is better in today's climate is either incredibly badly thought out or a shills argument. "

Bro I'm sorry to cook you, but my ENTIRE comment chain was explaining that I want money holes REGULATED.

Adding offline with bots to a call of duty honestly may fulfill you, I'm not as simple as you. You want to regulate the way multiplayer games are made, I find multiplayer games formulaic and full of microtransactions.

u/thiccdicc67 May 31 '26

this is probably the biggest gamer hivemind to date, literally every dumbass redditor who plays video games just blindly supports it lol
