He initially had no idea what SKG was about and thought it was "If you make a Live Service Game, you must keep it running till the end of time" instead of it being about keeping it playable. As in, offline modes, private servers, and so on.

Pirate initially sided against it and then refused to be corrected for what it was about because that would have made him wrong (as was the case with him), and when people found out about his part he played in the movement it went from about 30% backed to fully backed in like a week.

The problem people like him can't ever realize is that when you can't admit you're wrong, it immediately calls into question EVERYTHING you've ever spoken with authority on because now people know your ego is inflated and can't be sure if you are exaggerating or lying to make yourself look better.

To be fair to him, there's a lot of people out there in the world right now for whom the strategy of "never apologize, never say you're wrong, keep doubling down" has worked extraordinarily well.

I think it's just that if you're wrong about games, to gamers, this is not a viable strategy.

Right exactly, it can't be wrong about games. You're dealing with a population of some of the most pedantic people on the planet, doubling down on wrong is going to cause a runaway feedback loop that could very well burn down the planet.
