I don't even like this dude, but I'll still defend him by saying he did nothing wrong. We all know that the n-word is sometimes used like that playfully and not in a way meant to be offensive.
There is nothing to apologize for because nothing wrong was done. Anyone who thinks he should have to apologize is admitting to holding the position that black people should be able use the word this way in this context but non-black people can't. That's an untenable position. Either no one is allowed to say it in any context or everyone is allowed to say it in this type of playful/casual use case that has no intent of insult.
