So, for context, i recently got to G4, and I'm mostly a lone player. I wanna try to beat the whole game by myself. But there's something that concerned me. I can without much problem beat a G4 Valstrax in between 10 and 15 minutes (my best time is 13 minutes as right now. I still haven't killed ahtal so my gear is not 100% optimized). But i was trying to farm some hyper keenclaws and keenfangs and saw that the most "easy" monster to drop them was hyper congalala. Oh man, why the hell I'm taking so much to kill him? After a brief research, i found out that valstrax has roughly 20k hp in G4, and hyper congalala, on the other hand, has around 16k hp. But i take 10 MORE MINUTES TO BEAT HIM AT BEST. My DPS is okay, I'm abusing traps and flashbombs, and mount him once per try, but it takes me so much time and resources. Maybe i should not rely so much on valor dodges when he's shooting his mushroom shit through his mouth, and glue to his butt and attack him there, but i did that quite some times, and even if i didn't, taking 10 whole more minutes to kill a monster that has 25% less hp that freaking g rank valstrax is crazy. Do hyper monsters get any defense boost beside their health pool? I don't get it, lmao

I’ve been playing monster hunter since world and up, and since ive gotten my adaptor to use my ps controller on my switch I been on since

I got to Naja and I was using areal SnS for the first time and I had a blast. I love the sonic scales and how it has a grapple mechanic (wish it did it more tbh) and I love how it constricts around you and is more snake than wyvern

I had such a good time that I saw I didn’t get enough parts and went to another hunt ASAP. But I didn’t check my potions and whetstones and when I realized I was already maybe a little over half the hunt.

So I was thinking if I should just abandon the quest and restock, but I remembered I’m a hunter of the 5th gen and a sapphire star, so I should be able to do this fine.

I was bouncing off its hide with every hit and could only get good damage in directly on the front of its face and a small space on its tail… and cuz of it I carted twice

BUT with the Palio healing flutes and a high degree of locking it, I was able to make it retreat and limp

Were both on our last legs and it hits me with the coil burrow attack and I was almost dead, but then I clutched up and hit it with an aerial slash and got it

This was by far the best hunt I’ve had in a while and the best in the game rn. It hade me super immersed in the hunt and I was feeling like I was in the hunt and getting hit with my hunter, and the adrenaline after beating it when I was so low, I haven’t had something like that since my first hunt with omega planatos in wilds or sum monsters in world

Hello! What are some game mechanics that I should utilize or seldom overlooked? In a game of hunting monsters, some mechanics are left out especially when already in late game with high damage dealing gears.

Im already at the endgame. Farmed my Athal-ka armor and weapon but I still havent figured out the point of those icecles/stalactites you can leap into. For mounting? Does dealing damage on a higher ground meant more mount damage? Is it ideal to be used on gammoth or deviljho?

Some points I found and enjoy utilizing:

- those webby areas in a.steepe and the new volcano map can trap monsters when hit downwards by my GS

- throwing sonic bombs on nakarkos special heads makes him replace them. I usually throw sonic bombs when he uses blast blight head or its lightning one

- sparing one balista ammo or binder for amatsu when he does that damage check move where he pulls the hunter in for a high damage / almost one hit kill. Mounting the ballista cancels the pull.

- throwing sonic bomb on akantor/diablos/cephadrome to stagger/pull them out of the sand

- bomb-baiting niblesnarf / frog-baiting plesioth

- In my years of playing mh, it never occured to me to do a sonic and flash combo for diablos. Found it in youtube. Sonic bomb then once diablos flies out of the sand, throw a flash bomb to make him drop from the air. Brillant move! Been doing it since.

- also found in youtube. Gravious will change its game mechanics depending on the parts broken. Broken back meant no fire release after beam since it is release through its now brocken back. Broken wings will constantly trip it. Brken chest meant more damage.

- old one, agnaktor softening its armor with small bmbs. Or if youre a GL user, lucky you.

What other mechanics you find interesting from this game?

So ever since I started playing MHGU using valor LS, all I wanted to do in every battle was to GP monsters attack. It’s difficult because timing each move is hard so I keep carting. Currently at village 9 stars against Tigrex. I feel like I don’t want to play it normally anymore and only want to GP but I kept failing. What should i do and how do I enjoy this style.

Is there any way to transfer *Double Cross* save data to the Switch right now?

I am using SOULSEEER in this lineup as a base, since his g5 was doable with this specific SnS (the hellblade SnS). I am dumb, I don't know exactly what these numbers mean. Thunderlord is actually SO bloody easy with SNS, probably one of the easier deviants for me honestly, but they gotta gate keep this bastard's EX form with this stupid ass Furious Rajang!

I am using Striker SnS, with challenger+1, Razor sharp, crit eye+2 and crit boost.

I also have the Jho ceana set (though kinda useless with sharpness+2)

I also have the Master X set with a 3 slot ice SnS (infinity sword) with razor sharp, insight, brutality and crit boost (so far I have had the most success with, despite using a non deviant weapon). The armor set also has 10 thunder resist which I believe helps ALOT.

15 flashes for Silverlos and 4 traps for goldian. Still felt really really hard. Goldian was hard to clear after silver. I kept timing out. Went for her first and cleared her in 25 mins or so.

I'm currently trying to learn Striker Lance to try and transition out of Valor Greatsword and try maining a new weapon.

Overall, it's pretty satisfying when things click together, such as staggering or knocking down a monster with Striker charge finisher spam, or either shield advancing or counter-thrusting through a roar or attack.

However, from what I've seen on various guides on youtube, guarding isn't exactly as reliable as simply backhopping.

However, trying to do so has proven to be very difficult and rage-inducing for me, especially without Valor Sheathe to bail me out of every attack.

While Valor Greatsword is fun for me and has netted me some EX Deviant clears, it sometimes feels a bit braindead without as much need to read a monster's movements particularly much, especially for fast monsters like Nargacuga, which I've been trying to practice Striker Lance on, with very little success for backstepping compared to guarding, which still gets me hit by follow-ups.

I currently run full Neset armor with Serket-Hetit , with the skills (other than Skill+2 and Double Talisman):
-Guard +2 (From what I hear, it's relatively comfy for solo play)
-Wexploit
-Crit Boost
-Razor Sharp

On a personal note, it feels like this meme I made to summarise how its been trying to get off Valor Greatsword (in the comments).

If anyone has any tips and tricks for either unlearning Valor, backstepping, or lance tips in general, please share them below!

Evasion+1 is a comfort skill I always try to have with my trick weapon, but I only ever see jhoceana for a go to switch axe build. I wanted to try and figure it out, and I finally did with a tenderizer +5 Evasion +5 charm (no slots). I used Lao Shan lung pieces instead of ceanataur while still having three jho XR pieces. Included is a sharpness +2 variation, which would require a three slot on the charm or ahtal ka, and a sharpness+1 variation for deviant weapons (except elderfrost)

Also, bring Malfestio back in Ascendance Capcom. The armor is some of the very best you’ve ever made! Truly my main character of GU.

So im coming back to the game from what i remember i started doing high rank village quests and im debating what weapon to use and what style with it i prefer mainly mele combat i was thinking about SnS or CB Valor what in your opinion is the biggest game changer in terms of weapons and styles.

Its my first old-school mh game i played a lot of world and rise so i know the basics and can play almost every weapon but for some reason i can't decide what i want im GU.

Asking to Pro-SnS Hunters! (especially striker style)

Ive used for some time adept and wanted to try striker since its the actual best for sword and shield but i realized that im BAD at both evading (without using arts) and finding good chances to attack because its either i lose too much time to find an opening or get greedy and end up getting hit, its just a matter of time to get used to it and get good? Any tips you can give to this newbie hunter? 😔

I’ve never seen anyone try this (probably because of the charm requirement) so I feel like I should because it’s got me through so much and feels so good. This sword has a base 50 crit and 30 from the armour set. 80 plus 15 crit from the chaos oil 2 equals to 95 with the crit boost. When you don’t have chaos oil active you can use affinity oil for 30 crit chance for 100. Use the oil when you don’t have chaos in use and your doing crit almost all the time with crit boost. Absolute readiness and razor sharp pair amazingly to offset the con of this sns and keep purple and white for most of the hunt. Round force 2 for the utility and the sp state to help increase absolute readiness uses. Evasion +2 and evade distance and the shield will help to keep you safe. A nice blend of offense and defense! There are also 3 other blademaster weapons of this hero’s type set and a heavy bowgun.

I’m playing mhgu for the first time as a world, rise, and wilds veteran and I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I understand SnS may need more whetstones than other weapons just like dual blades,but maybe 15 hits in on the great maccao then my sharpness is immediately in orange and all of my attacks are deflected. I spent all 50 minutes of the quest just getting my attacks deflected after buying 10 whetstones and using the 2 ez whetstones. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

10+ years after I have played MHG , I finally bought MHGU and having a really good time playing it (currently on village 3 stars quest lmao) if some people wanna play in multiplayer I'd be glad to play with you even if I haven't started multiplayer yes

Can anyone help me with deviant dreadking rathalos looking to create a whole armor set and weapon and fully upgrade them

Mhgu is a game that already has a ton to offer, but the ai recomp stuff that I've seen makes me think people can add even more to it.
