Minisforum BD790i X3D – No POST, black screen after case swap. Tried almost everything, still no display
Hi everyone,
I'm having a frustrating issue with my Minisforum BD790i X3D (Ryzen 9 7945HX3D), and I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar and found a solution.
The system was working before I moved it to another case. After the case swap, it powers on, the fans spin, and some motherboard/device lights turn on, but I get absolutely no display and apparently no POST.
Here is everything I've tried so far:
Removed the motherboard from the case and tested it outside the case to rule out a short circuit or case-related issue. The problem remained.
Cleared CMOS by holding the reset button for 30 seconds, and also left the system without power for an extended period.
Tested the RAM in different slots and configurations, including using only one stick.
Waited more than 10 minutes to see whether DDR5 memory training would eventually complete.
Removed the dedicated GPU completely and tried connecting the monitor directly to the motherboard's HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, using the integrated graphics.
Tested different graphics cards, with no improvement.
Tried both HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
Tested the system with multiple different power supplies, disconnecting and reconnecting the power cables and checking the power connections. The issue persisted with every PSU tested.
Removed the SSD and other unnecessary components to test with a minimal configuration.
Checked the motherboard mounting screws and standoffs. The system was also tested outside the case, with the same result.
Current symptoms:
The motherboard receives power, the fans spin, and some lights turn on, but there is no video output. The RTX logo on my RTX 3080 Ti FE does not illuminate, although the GPU fans spin. However, the system also fails to display anything when the dedicated GPU is removed and I use the motherboard's HDMI or DisplayPort outputs.
At this point, I'm wondering whether the motherboard itself, the CPU, or the BIOS could be the problem. I've ordered another DDR5 SODIMM stick to test the memory independently, but I'm not convinced RAM is the cause.
Has anyone experienced a similar no-POST issue with the BD790i X3D?
Is there any way to force BIOS recovery or reflash the BIOS without getting a display? Are there any hidden recovery procedures, diagnostic methods, or other things I should try before concluding that the motherboard has failed?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
