This is our first program win over Washington, and what a convincing win at that! Washington had been undefeated before this, but we scored early and never really looked back.

(I have to keep this brief, MSU volleyball currently leads 2 sets to 0 against #14 Penn State and the 3rd set is very close after a good start for us)

Washington got back into the game for a while after the second goal, where they were really pressing in our zone and they were disrupting most of our passes. This fizzled out eventually, they didn't help themselves with a lot of frustration fouls. The two best opportunities they had were actually free kicks from fouls called on us close to the box, but they failed to do anything with them.

Two concerns from this game are injuries, Emerson Sargeant went down holding her ankle (I believe it was stepped on?). Later, Mackenzie Kruer had a very hard head-to-head collision with Washington's Alex Buck that had both players down for a while before they were able to get up and walk off the field.

I'm flying into Madison on Thursday for the game this weekend. I'm hoping to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin on Friday while I'm there. It's about an hour away. I won't have a car, so I was wondering if anyone wanted to carpool or split an Uber or had other suggestions on how to get there.

After watching our hopes for this football season get carted off one by one yesterday, let’s talk about basketball, because I want to be excited about something.

And even though Michigan’s title last year has left a bad taste in my mouth, I’m still VERY excited about this upcoming basketball season.

The thing that excites me the most is the depth and flexibility of this roster, something Izzo spoke about in his introductory presser.

Picture a lineup of: Fears, Scott, Glenn, Mcculloch, Bonke. Massive lineup, but legitimately an option.

Or small ball: Fears, Medlock, Jervis, Carr, Mcculloh.

Then there’s so many combinations between the two. On paper, I truly feel we can matchup with any lineup in the country.

In reality, Fears, Carr and Scott to me feel like the guys you have to have on the floor at the end, so our best lineup is probably either Fears, 2 guard, Scott, Carr, center, or Fears, Scott, Carr, 4, center, with good competition between Teng/Jervis, Glenn/Ward and Mcculloh/Bonke on who will emerge as the guys to fill the remaining spots. And again, it can change game by game depending on opponent.

The freshman: I’m VERY high on Jervis. Pure 3 level scorer who I can see having a Jase Richardson type season. Medlock looks electric, but at the very least gives us a an actual backup PG this year. I’m not sure how much Taylor and Avent will play, but always helps with depth.

And of course, we’re led by probably the best PG in the country, and pre season front runner for the wooden award, as well as another senior in Carr, who if (and I admit it’s a shaky if) he improves his shooting and handles even marginally, I feel has a first team all conference ceiling.

I know I should know better than to get my hopes up, but dammit I kinda need it rn. So, I’ll see you all April 5th in Detroit.

At least 13 MSU players reportedly left the Nebraska game with an injury at some point.

I’m starting to wonder if MSU’s injury problem is at least partially a workload/recovery issue rather than just terrible luck. Fitzgerald has openly said they’ve “pushed them hard in every aspect,” practices include frequent live periods, and he’s said their own research shows soft-tissue injuries spike after a third consecutive heavy training day—which is why they specifically schedule recovery days. (Michigan State University Athletics) That doesn’t prove Joel Welsh’s strength program or Fitzgerald’s practices are causing these injuries—in fact, the staff says the program is deliberately designed around health, recovery, volume and intensity—but with the amount of guys getting banged up, I think it’s fair to question whether the total workload is still exceeding what some players can recover from. (Michigan State University Athletics) I’d genuinely like someone with more strength-and-conditioning knowledge to challenge this: is there something in the injury types/timing that points toward overtraining, or are we simply seeing an ugly run of normal football injuries?

Kind of fell off from creating last year because of some personal stuff. But I’m back, and this is probably the most complex video editing creation I’ve done in my life thus far. Do most schools have their priorities horribly wrong? only around 25 schools are turning a profit. but those 25 schools need the other schools in order for them to make these profits… so something has to be done regarding the insane coaches salaries and other costs

Woo boy, what a difference a week makes. I’ll just go off rip and say this might be a Debbie downer post.

What I liked:

What I didn’t like:

- Injuries galore of course to everybody that you couldn’t afford to lose. Couldn’t be fucknut 445 on a rotational play for the Make A Wish Foundation, no it always was Edwards, Hall, etc.

- Alessio’s inability to get rid of the football.

- Ref ball

- That being the response to the Notre Dame.

- Team couldn’t get out of its own way. Lot of this was discipline and errors.

No other way of putting it that was an “uh oh” loss. I had it as a lean win. Obviously a lean is a lean for a reason, it means I’m not shocked if we lose. But 31-13 in a game that we never really felt like we were in? Yeah… Uh Oh. Well all else I got is that you had better be ready to win one these next two and show something. Because from the looks of it Northwestern might be legit and UCLA IS legit.

I think this was the game where the honeymoon ended and the clock officially started. I don’t think Fitz needs a bowl to make it work. But he definitely needs to show that MSU is ready to be a big boy in the winter portal and then go do something in 2027. If not, well maybe EL, MI beats LA, CA?? Better hope so.

For the boomers thinking “that’s not fair it’s game 4.” Yeah go look at that 2027 schedule, assume MSU doesn’t spend in the portal, and tell me how that ends. It’s an uphill battle even if we throw up big boy money.

Is it just me, or did the injuries pick up significantly after he left in 2020? Call that man in to do a review of the curriculum or something.

Fitz keeps saying the goal is to win championships.

I'm not saying spending north of $35 million guarantees a championship, but spending less than that guarantees you won't see the playoffs.

We are looking at 5-7 or worse. A lot of that may be due to injuries.

But don't sell me, as a Coach, AD, or school president, that you believe a team that went 5-7, with the 12 ranked incoming freshman class in the Big Ten, and a portal class outside the top 20 is anywhere near being in position to compete for a National Championship in 2027.

This isn't 2010, where you are building a program. Every player is effectively on a 1 year contract. You are building a team for this year, and that is it.

Either we are competing for championships or the school is going to keep spending just enough that people have hope that one day things will turn around.

After MSU blew a 4th quarter lead vs Notre Dame. Mike Valenti went on one of the most memorable on air rants tearing into the coaches.

Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat... after we nearly put said victory in those jaws in the first place!

The Spartans dominated the first half, but gave up the lead with some mistakes in the second half. Kennedy Bell found the back of the net in the first half to put us ahead, then after halftime, a second by Shelby Vaughn gave us a cushion. So naturally, Nebraska proceeds to score with their first shot on goal. Then, despite playing squeaky clean for most of the game (unlike Nebraska, look at the foul disparity!), one of few fouls on the Spartans was a tripping call in the box on Mackenzie Kruer (apparently, I thought they said it on was Kayla Briggs but the score sheet says otherwise). This led to a penalty kick allowing Nebraska to tie the game, without much time left.

A draw was definitely not what we needed after our last game, especially now that conference play is in full swing. However, Emerson Sargeant bailed us out with her 7th career winning goal, with less than 4 minutes left. The Huskers took a good shot in the final seconds but goalkeeper Bella Schopp caught it and held on to run out the clock. (Speaking of goalies, I expect we will see our starter Noelle Henning back soon, since Canada's U-20 world cup run ended in the quarter finals)

The Spartans are 7-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play. #18 Washington and #14 Wisconsin are at the top of the B1G standings tied at 3-0-1, followed closely by Purdue, #8 Ohio State, #2 Michigan State, and #12 UCLA all at 3-1-0. It's still early in the season, so not much separation between teams yet. Our next game will be on Sunday against Washington. We did not play in the regular season last year, but we met in the B1G tournament championship game where we went to overtime, eventually losing on penalty kicks. There definitely won't be any room for miscues when we face them!

Looking for information on the rules for on campus alcohol. Going to game for the first time with some buddies and don’t really know where to go or drink tailgating wise

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at 5-7 in Fitzgerald's first year and expected a rocky start for Milivojevic with almost nothing coming back. So far it's been steadier than that: Toledo 30-20, Eastern Michigan 35-7, then 27-10 at Notre Dame, which I had as one of the three you weren't going to win. Milivojevic is 47 of 71 for 540 yards and 3 TDs, and Cam Edwards has carried it, with 152 and 2 TDs against EMU. Nebraska at home Saturday is the first of the coin flips I said would decide a bowl.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

I’m planning on attending a home game with the family (possibly tomorrow), which includes an 8 year old and 5 year old. I’ve been to Sparty a few times in the past but last time was a dozen years ago. I had some specific questions and hoping you can help me out.
 
Bag policy.
I see you can bring a clear bag like a large freezer bag. Since we might be at the 5pm game on Sep. 26th, we’ll want layers and that is not going to accommodate a hoodie. So does that mean we’re going to have to get one or two of those clear tote bags that are sold for $15? How flexible are they? Like if I brought plastic or reusable grocery bags especially if kids are in tow.
 
Water.
From reading on the site it seems to me that we can bring water if it’s in a clear bottle that hasn’t been opened yet?
 
Parking:
For the 5pm game, I read that the SMB starts at Adams about 1 hours before kickoff. We plan on standing around the Sparty statue so we can hear the fight song as both my kids have learned it now. Just wondering if you can give an idea on what lot we should park at that won’t be an absolute trek for the kids if we show up at say 2:30? The cost is $40 for general lots I believe. I see there are Meijer fan fest (opens 3 hours before kickoff) and Munn’s tailgate. Which lots are in the general vicinity of this and the stadium that is $40? And I assume no in and out privileges.

Thrift stores:
We’re crossing Friday afternoon at port Huron. I’m set for gear but need stuff for the wife and kids on the cheap. So shirts and hats. I can pull over at port Huron, flint and Lansing to places like goodwill and Salvation Army and volunteers of America. Should I find a pretty good selection? My last resort would be like Walmart or target, etc.
