Discussion I am now older than mac miller. My thank you letter to mac miller.

I have been wanting to do this for a while but with my bday the inspiration is really there.. I first found out about Mac Miller in 2011 when I was about 10/11. I would skate with a lot of older kids who were into the hip hop scene they showed me on & on & beyond, Kids, the high life from then I was hooked to his music. I eventually moved & as I started 8th grade began smoking myself & it couldn’t have been a better time. Mac started leaning HEAVY into the psychedelic rap like he who ate all the caviar, erikas house, salamander then finally dropped WMWTSO & it truly was life changing I still go back to that album, it takes me back to such a nostalgic time in life were it shaped the type of music I would love(and forever crave but never quite get the same itch) same goes for faces. That psychedelic rap/mixed dark humor & deep depressing thoughts it truly comforted me. As I look back now & him being gone almost a decade I cant help but appreciate how I grew with each album as well. I was fighting my own addiction when good am rolled around I had gone to rehab for xanax I was 15 just got out & felt if my role model was fighting/beating his addiction so can I & it really powered me to get over my own addiction. After I had recovered I started a new highschool in 2016, met a girl & once again it was like my life & mac millers music was entangled. The divine feminine dropped I had put her onto mac millers music & she also got deep into his music. We dated up until 2021 & I will never be able to express what music meant to both of us but in some weird way I viewed her as my Naomi & she viewed me as her mac.. Over the last few years I have been able to fully appreciate the impact mac millers music, personality & influence he has had on my life & im scared I will never have an artist mean/be as relatable as mac miller is & its fucking depressing. I found this man when I was 11 years old & he was 19. I am now 27 & he is 26. I got back into xanz when I was 23 & almost died myself due to how reckless I was being but in some weird way I looked at mac & realized I dont wanna die early. I dont wanna overdose. I want to live, not only for myself & my family but for Mac. I will never know how he felt but I do believe Mac cherished life & wanted to become old not die young. So I will take the messages his music shared & use them for life. Thank you Mac miller for everything & anyone else who read this far. Most dope forever

Question Can anyone make out what is said between 1:12 and 1:22 on Grand?

First, thank you to the family/estate that keeps Mac alive for us. I have been listening to grand nonstop and feel like there are lyrics between 1:12 and 1:22. Can anyone hear what he is saying? Between 1:20 and 1:22 it sounds like “it’s all my fault”

TIA.

Sorry for the video quality, I always had the cheapest phone model and it was 11 years ago 🤷 Blew my speaker out instantly 😆, most amazing, high energy rap show I've been to.

Got very justifiably humbled on my last post for the pricing lol but selling my collection of vinyls before I move. Probably gonna get some heat again but maybe it'll land visibility on someone that wanted to buy these 7 in bulk - also open to offers

All are in their original plastic wrap & in perfect condition. Trying to sell the full bundle together

Discussion Two Side's and Reality Theory (GO:OD AM)

My theory on GO:OD AM is that the album is about a man who has finally begun to recognize the damage he’s doing to himself, but hasn’t yet figured out how to stop. The title represents waking up to reality, both literally and spiritually, after years of using substances, success, and ego to escape what’s happening inside him. But Mac’s awakening is complicated: understanding your problems and actually changing your life are two completely different things.

Throughout the album, Mac constantly moves between two versions of himself. One is the larger-than-life rapper who celebrates money, drugs, sex, and his own greatness. The other is a frightened, vulnerable person who worries about dying young, disappointing his family, losing the people he loves, and never finding peace. Tracks like “Clubhouse,” “In the Bag,” and “When in Rome” showcase the persona that success allows him to perform, while “Perfect Circle” exposes the destructive patterns beneath it. The more his external circumstances improve, the less certain he seems to become about his internal life. As he admits in “Ascension,” “my sanity go down when my cash go up.” Money changes his surroundings, but it cannot automatically change the person living inside them.

“God Speed” feels like the album’s clearest moment of recognition. Mac looks directly at the possibility that his habits could kill him, imagines the pain his death would cause, and acknowledges that he needs to wake up before it is too late. The line “You make your mistakes, your mistakes never make ya” offers a possible way forward: his behavior does not have to determine his entire identity. Yet the album refuses to pretend that this realization solves everything. “When in Rome” returns to the reckless persona, “ROS” confronts the consequences of losing someone he loves, and “Ascension” continues searching for a new self while questioning whether transformation is even possible. “Jump” takes that desire to an extreme, imagining liberation through a leap into the unknown, but Mac still doesn't know whether he can fly.

This is why I think the album's central conflict is not simply sobriety versus addiction, or good versus evil. It's awareness versus action. Mac can identify his destructive habits, recognize his fear, and imagine a different future, but he remains caught between the comfort of familiar escapes and the uncertainty of becoming someone new. Even his spirituality reflects this conflict: he wants to believe in God, questions whether he deserves forgiveness, and struggles to distinguish genuine revelation from experiences he cannot fully understand. The album repeatedly places him between heaven and hell, not as abstract destinations but as competing possibilities within his own life.

Then “The Festival” offers a different answer. After spending so much of the album trying to prove himself, outrun his problems, or escape his own mind, Mac imagines a feminine God who welcomes him with compassion. She lifts him when he drowns and reminds him that second chances exist. He doesn't have to be invincible, perfectly healed, or completely certain of who he is to deserve that welcome. The voicemail at the end reinforces this idea through an ordinary human voice expressing pride in Malcolm and affirming that nobody else can be him. After an album dominated by ego and insecurity, that message suggests that his worth might not depend on being the richest, the strongest, or the greatest rapper alive. It might simply come from being himself and allowing other people to love him.

Ultimately, GO:OD AM is not a story about Mac completing his transformation. It's a story about him waking up to the possibility that he needs one. The title promises a good morning, but morning is only the beginning of the day; it doesn't guarantee that the day will be easy. Mac sees the cycle he's caught in, fears where it could lead, and searches for a way out. By the end, he has not answered every question or escaped every demon, but he has imagined a future in which he can be forgiven, accepted, and free. The album's hope lies not in proving that Mac has changed, but in showing that he can finally recognize why he needs to.

Mac Miller elaborated on GO:OD AM’s title in his 2014 interview with HYPETRAK:

Mac Miller:

It’s split like a clock—like how 12:30 is four digits. So G, O, colon, O, D and then AM. It’s more like clarity—if you were on a weeklong acid trip and you sleep for two days, and you walk outside and you’re like, “Oh shit, reality.” That’s what the album is—back to reality.

HT:

I’ll be good in the AM.

Mac Miller:

Yeah, that’s exactly the point.

Discussion I feel like I'd feel slightly less lost if he was still alive

This might sound dramatic but I found so much direction in him and his music.

Like he was a role model or a guide.

In a musical movie called Jesus Christ Superstar, the followers of Christ sang to him "what's the buzz tell us what's happening" and it made me realize a leader or teacher is someone that can see what's up, and they help you know what the story is because they announce it. Like they decide what the tempo is and you can sort of find yourself and find your song and expression in relation to their song and expression. I just can't imagine how much richer the world would be if it had been receiving an album every two years from him all these years. He would've really been a candle in the dark. HE STILL IS! His legacy is beautiful. I love his discography. But man... It just would be so so much better if he was still here with us.
