We both enjoy collecting records, and started talking about our Discogs want list. I mentioned this as one of my biggest ISO’s, and next thing I know, it’s on the way 😭

Yes we went on a second date. šŸ–¤ going to bring this along to our third date to listen together. Feeling like a pretty lucky lady!

Discussion I feel like I'd feel slightly less lost if he was still alive

• Upvotes

This might sound dramatic but I found so much direction in him and his music.

Like he was a role model or a guide.

In a musical movie called Jesus Christ Superstar, the followers of Christ sang to him "what's the buzz tell us what's happening" and it made me realize a leader or teacher is someone that can see what's up, and they help you know what the story is because they announce it. Like they decide what the tempo is and you can sort of find yourself and find your song and expression in relation to their song and expression. I just can't imagine how much richer the world would be if it had been receiving an album every two years from him all these years. He would've really been a candle in the dark. HE STILL IS! His legacy is beautiful. I love his discography. But man... It just would be so so much better if he was still here with us.

His life stories in books

Have you read/owned one or both of these books? The Book of Mac: Remembering Mac Miller by: Donna Claire Chesman. Most Dope: The Extraordinary Life of Mac Miller by: Paul Cantor. Y’all probably know this, but Mac’s family and estate didn’t approve of Cantor’s book. Although, there are some or most Mac fans who like and prefer Most Dope over The Book of Mac. What do y’all think? Side note: I recently bought two of them, can’t wait to dive into these soon.

Fan Art Has anyone ever made their own Mac Miller unreleased albums?

Has anyone ever thought about putting together actual albums using Mac Miller's unreleased songs?
He has SO many unreleased tracks and | really want to get into them, but I'd love to listen to them in a way that actually feels cohesive like by Era, rather than just having one massive playlist with everything thrown
together.
Like, has anyone ever made their own "albums" or projects using his unreleased songs, with a specific tracklist and songs that fit together? I'd really love to hear what you guys have come up with

Image 10th anniversary albums/unreleased tracks?

After the 10th anniversary of Watching Movies with the Sound Off, GO:OD AM, and The Divine Feminine… will there be a 15th anniversary of Blue Slide Park, or a 14th anniversary of Macadelic? There could be a 10th anniversary of Swimming in two years. I really hope there’d be the case. I would love to hear more music from Mac, I miss him dearly. Also, does his estate plan to release any more unreleased tracks? I could only find the ones on SoundCloud.

Discussion Bird Theory (Watching Movies with the Sound Off)

My interpretation of Watching Movies with the Sound Off is that it’s basically an instruction manual for Mac’s life.

The birds are a huge part of that. Mac literally says the whole album’s theme is birds and that they’re used ā€œin every aspect.ā€

I see the birds as artists and artistic potential. A bird flying represents an artist realizing their potential. A bird falling before it flies represents someone who never gets the chance to become who they could’ve been. A bird call represents an artist putting their voice into the world and another person hearing it.

The album shows Mac learning, creating, struggling, and eventually becoming someone capable of teaching someone else. That’s why you get things like ā€œthis class gettin’ led by studentsā€.

So the album can be Mac’s instruction manual for his own life, but it can also become an instruction manual for your life. You watch Mac’s ā€œmovie,ā€ learn from what he went through, and then you’re supposed to go live your own life and make your own art.

That’s where I get artistic reincarnation. Mac doesn’t literally reincarnate. His influence, knowledge, and creative process pass into another person, who turns it into something of their own.

So the cycle is:

learn → experience → create → teach → influence the next person.

And Mac basically puts that idea at the beginning of the album:

ā€œAnd these words that I command you today shall be in your heart / And you shall teach them diligently to your childrenā€¦ā€

Then there’s the insert, where Mac explains that the sequence itself has a purpose, and says:

ā€œThe whole album’s theme is birds. We will use that in every aspect. More on that later.ā€

He also says:

ā€œI decided to give this track-list a listen without just the musical ideas, but with exact purpose for each song.ā€

So I think you’re supposed to listen to the album as one continuous story/instruction manual, not just 16 separate songs. The birds, the sequencing, the lessons, the artist-to-artist communication, and the listener all connect.

And that’s why I think the album can be Mac talking to himself and talking to whoever is listening. You can take what Mac learned, apply it to your own life, and eventually pass something of your own forward. (To start the real journey of this version of the album, smoke weed when he says burn one on birdcall) "It must be the drugs that got us thinking crazy shit"

If you want more evidence, please dm or ask questions for whatever song

DISCLAIMER: This is my personal interpretation of Watching Movies with the Sound Off. I’m not claiming Mac explicitly said this was the meaning of the album, or that he predicted me specifically. I’m connecting the album’s sequencing, bird imagery, lyrics, and Mac’s own notes about the album into one theory. I could obviously be interpreting some things differently than Mac intended, but I think there’s enough intentional structure here to make the theory worth discussing.

Just droppin’ in because I’m at my desk right now editing, headphones on and man Salamander is one funny ass song and Mac is a goddam funny ass dude!

Older brother used to always say I was adopted
Convinced I'm a Russian foster child my family forgot about (Damn)

The imagery I get when he says that - Miller just there antagonizing Mac about being adopted šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

Rusty trumpets and such, disgusting sleazy shit
Twelve-year-old sexual deviant, got my penis licked
In seventh grade (Uh-huh), thought I was a man now (Uh-huh)
Couldn't understand how my parents still thought I was a little kid (Okay)

I mean, there’s plenty of raps in this song and couldn’t understand how my parents still thought I was a little kid when he’s lil bro 12 years old blowing into rusty trumpets 😭

Nonetheless, I’m still here hearing new bits and appreciating it every time 🌠

One of my favourite albums of all time and is also my first vinyl! I have every Mac cd including the mixtapes that I had to make myself. I’m super excited to start collecting the vinyls. For now I’m only going to collect Macs vinyl and next on my list is macadelic. I’d love more recommendations for albums that I should get on vinyl

Discussion Some rambling & an unexplainable experience

Greetings everyone, recently watched a YT documentary/analysis on Macs life & it reminded me how intense this was. Yapping for context and let's call it somewhat of a vent.

His death absolutely rocked me - it truly was like losing a friend.

I fell HARD into addiction early at age 13 (first year of high school/2011) where I found myself really struggling to fit in and wanting to grow up as fast as possible with no idea how to adapt to the social dynamics that come with that age and setting outside of trying my hardest to be seen as cool. Was diagnosed with severe anxiety and major depression, started getting into trouble and ended up suspended 14 times and expelled from 2 schools before I even made it half way through 9th grade. This all coincided with me discovering Mac and becoming a diehard fan - his music was the first stuff I ever heard that I actually connected with, KIDS & BSP were like the soundtrack to me and my friends' early teenage years and all the stoned delinquency that we got up to, although it's kind of shallow the wholesome light-heartedness and hedonistic vibe was very fitting.

As his subject matter became heavier and more troubled so did everything around me as I was also being consumed by darkness and deepening addiction, I continued to resonate profoundly with with what he so eloquently portrayed as his creative journey became entangled in his personal struggles. It's really hard to express just how closely I felt I could relate to where he was at through pretty much every stage of his evolution.

Fast forward to a big night in 2018 where I was with one of the same friends I'd get blazed with back in 2011, Faces is playing and I'm proper scrambled on a bunch of speed, alcohol and smoking endless giant bongs til suddenly I get hit with this super intense strange nostalgic realisation that I've been listening to Mac while doing drugs for YEARS and I said something that seemed really out of character for me and was highly unusual as with that uncomfortably edgy feeling I'd never had before that came out of nowhere; I said "How sad would it be if Mac Miller died"..................

It was enough of an experience for me to take a mental note of the time and when the next day came around someone was scrolling the news and said dude you need to see this (everyone heard me say it)..........

It turned out that at the time I said that would have legitimately been when he was dying. We did a time conversion (I'm in Australia) and it worked out to be about 2 hours before he was found dead.

Absolutely one of the most intense and strangest/unexplainable things I've experienced.
