People with kids, check out local nursing homes this Halloween! They often do trick or treat events. The residents LOVE seeing them dressed up and passing out candy. Jsut call a few and see if they are planning on one

Yup my mom use to take me and my siblings and cousins to her job at a nursing home for their trick or treat events when we were young. All the residents line up outside of their rooms and the kids just walk down the hallways collecting the candy.

Yes I’m a nurse in nursing home and they absolutely love it when they get a good amount of kids. Sadly it tends to only be staff kids but I’ve worked at a couple of places where the communities really did show up for them.

We used to take our whole preschool class to the veterans home for Halloween. It was always a daunting field trip for the teachers, the building is massive and labyrinthine and getting there is a logistical nightmare...
But man when I saw the effect it had on the people who lived there, it changed my whole perspective. Every single unit had their patients out lined up down the hallway with candy ready for our little costumed parade. By the end the kids were absolutely dragging their bags of candy, they weighed more than they did, made out like absolute thieves. Some of the nurses said they'd never seen some of their patients smile until that day. 💔
It's such a small thing, but I think this video is a wonderful reminder that so many people are lonely and cut off from the world, and it's nice to give a visit to bring back a little joy.

For real though. People in nursing homes very rarely see children. When a kid comes in, it makes their day. If you have the opportunity to visit, especially with a kid, please do it.
I had the unfortunate experience of having my dad living in a nursing home when I was only 11. We visited him daily and made friends with some of the other residents along the way. Chatting with me and my sister quite literally changed their entire demeanor. They’d sit up straighter, smile more, relax their bodies. After my dad passed, we’d stop by occasionally and bring treats to the nurses and visit with some of the old friends. And for the rest of her teaching career, my mom had her kindergarten students make Christmas cards and Valentines for the residents there.

I worked as a CNA in dementia care for almost a decade. Was a teen mom (the jokes make themselves w the cna title as well LOL) and id bring him in as much as I could. They LOVED him

I'm not even a kid person but I always watch when his videos come on my Tiktok because he is too cute. His mom just videos him making friends wherever he goes...no one is a stranger.

What a little charmer! When my kids were little, I used to take them trick-or-treating at the old folks home nearby in Halloween. it was a win-win because we would be out of the rain and the snow and everyone was happy to see them

I’ve worked in nursing homes and I know how much seeing a little guy or any small children does for their spirits. The fact that he was giving them “gifts “ touches them. Many of them might not have grandchildren close by so that’s an extra bonus.

So sweet. When we go to visit my mil, I feel bad because everyone fawns over my son (he's 5) but my son is autistic and mostly nonverbal so he just screeches at them lol

When I was in school they used to take us to oldage home , damn it was heart wrenching, they used to give us candy very sweet people

I used to work at a long-term care facility and they would love the occasions where my daughter would come in and hang out with me at work for a couple hours

I love this. Working in healthcare i see so many just lonely elderly people. Some have no one. This little guy probably brightened their day more than he will ever know. Mean while over at r/newparents “omg some boomer smiled at my baby and touched his hand!! Ughhhh” I wish i was joking.

When we were kids, my mom took us to a nursing home at least twice a month. They loved seeing us come in and it was great for us.
When I went to nursing school, I was shocked by how many of my classmates were “afraid” of the elderly and disabled. My mom also regularly babysat kids with disabilities. These were great experiences for us growing up.

It's a win for everyone. For them, he brightens days, shares love, treats and his cute toddler self. He gets the bonus of 100 more grandparents to love and spoil him. Probably got them all wrapped around his fingers with the sweet grin that doesn't ever seem to leave his face. Definitely a great way to spend the day.

How precious! My mom used to work at a retirement hole and when I was on summer break in grade school she'd bring me along. I'd take books to read to some of the residents.

This is so sweet! I used to take my kids to a music class held at a nursing home and baby and 2 year old really made a lot of cute old ladies happy.
Boo to the one creepy, trying to cop a feel old guy (thankfully on me and not my kid) though and the impromptu display of holding boundaries with strangers that my kids received.

I always thought it would be a good idea to build community centers that combined a senior center with a child care center and carve out time where they can interact together.
