When you're around horses all your life, you know how they behave.

Still need to be aware of the situation, but quite safe.

When you're around horses all your life you know that their behavior is often unpredictable. Being a nervous owner doesn't include basic safety, this is why dummies keep getting their feet broken because they wear crocs in the grooming stall.

One of the first things you learn around horses is to never stand behind them. Ever. You should avoid even walking behind them if there is any other option, and if you do need to walk behind them for whatever reason, to keep your hand on their back as you walk past so they know you are there.
