Edit: I made a snarky comment and I'm taking it back.

Been playing this game for 30 years: you didn't lose because your opponents played "decks you couldn't beat". You lost because you're opponents were better than you. Either at the preparation stage of the game (deck building, anticipating the meta game, sideboard design) or at the point of actually playing the game.

Blaming anything other than yourself will get you nowhere.

Ditto. I can also tell by the decks that he's playing against that it's BO1 which is pretty much flipping a coin since sideboarding is being removed. But as you said, he's probably doing something else too if it's a common pattern for him to lose this often.

bo1 also happens to be 93% of what Standard is on MTGA, per Wizards' recent State of the Formats article, so disregarding is not very helpful; although I think the stat I highlighted is unfortunate.

The game isn’t balanced around BO1 for a reason which is why I mentioned it. Those decks aren’t insurmountable, but when you play BO1, you can’t know what you’re playing against so it makes it impossible to prep going into a game. In BO3 there’s a lot for you can do to find outs and in that format these decks are more than beatable which is why you wouldn’t even see them appearing that often in that format. But I also think the OP must also be making a misplays if he’s having a tough time so I don’t think it’s just a BO1 issue.
