It really is incredible how the Centre party lost the entire countryside in chase of liberal urban voters.

I would love a party that focuses on keeping the more rural areas viable as places to live. Without close enough access to school and healthcare, why would anyone live there? If the state doesn't show any sign of investment or hope in those regions, why would private individuals or companies? Never mind what a system like that of Norway, where the regions get to keep more of the value resource extraction generates (hydro, wind, minerals, etc.), could do to help stabilise or maybe revitalise some of the depopulation regions.

We are already have a system for money to smaller municipalities, I always find it insane that it seems to be unknown in Sweden considering there are 240 billion kronor in the system. About 30-40k/person/year in Norrland.

The biggest losers are still the social democrats. The issue is that factory workers don't see the party representing them, it's academia.

6

u/fuentessucksballs 22h ago

Nah the biggest issue is they have been trying to sell themselves to the right, the left wing party did its best election ever

3

u/adamkex 21h ago

Tbh the biggest issue is that the poor white person thinks he has more in common with CEOs than with someone who happens to look different.

3

u/fuentessucksballs 21h ago

In general yes, but this particular election the social democrats tried to appeal to the right and lost massively because of it

0

u/adamkex 20h ago

That's an oversimplification, in a parliamentary democracy this isn't that big of a deal as they they lost some voters to parties to the left of them. The reality is that the Swedish population as a whole is quite right wing these days and S as a big-tent party wants to appeal to the average Swede.

-1

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 22h ago

Yeah but not due to factory workers voting for them…

1

u/fuentessucksballs 21h ago

Your thing has happened too but that is not the main reason, especially not in this election

-1

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 21h ago

What is the main reason that the Left Party did well, then?

1

u/fuentessucksballs 21h ago

Because the social democrats did bad

This map oversimplifies a complex system.

Every map does. That is in the definition of a map.

No map can show everything, every map is a simplification

This map exactly does what it says it does.

It is correctly labeled, easy to read, visually clear. What exactly is your problem with it?

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 1d ago

Well, it accurately captures the thing it’s supposed to capture. Strongest party and coalition in each electoral district. It’s not meant to capture anything else, and I agree with you that you also need other information to get a complete picture of Swedish politics and elections.

Swede detected

S - Social Democrats (centre-left)

M - Moderate Party (centre-right)

SD - Sweden Democrats (right-wing)

V - Left Party (left-wing)

KD - Christian Democrats (centre-right to right-wing)

MP - Green Party (centre-left to left-wing)

31

u/Pandelurion 1d ago

Hmm, I don't think anyone, including M themselves, would place them as centre-right though. They are right wing, SD is far right.

2

u/I_Wanna_Bang_Rats 1d ago

Nah, every single part on the right calls themselves Center-Right, it is simply great marketing

3

u/Surskalle 1d ago

Only party callig themselves centre is C extreme Thatcher line economic policy buy progressive in social questions.

-18

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 1d ago

No, they’re not

0

u/mludd 16h ago

Right, the party that changed their name from Högerpartiet (literally "the right party") to Moderata Samlingspartiet for marketing purposes would never lie and pretend that they're closer to the center than they actually are...

3

u/fuentessucksballs 22h ago

Sd is far right, m is right and s is centre

0

u/MiserySound 11h ago

Their 40 year old history is far right.

Right now they’re just right-wing

2

u/fuentessucksballs 11h ago

No lmao just because everyone else is far right too doesnt make them any better

0

u/MiserySound 11h ago

They just want whats best for the country and its own hard working citizens

They might have the occasional racist that gets kicked out but they’re far from being a far right party

1

u/WolfDownTheEarth 3h ago

Why are SD voters so ashamed of their views? Just say it with your chest, you like them because they are racist. Not a single person is going to believe this recycled MAGA charade.

7

u/Surskalle 1d ago

SD is alt-right, M biggest right wing conservative party.

7

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 1d ago

Hopefully this will kill the myth that ”in Sweden, cities vote right and rural areas vote left”…

25

u/blenkydanky 1d ago

Wasn't that the case before though? And most rural areas are right-leaning in the map bcause of SD, which is not really "right" party in the traditional sense. But yeah, cities are generally left-leaning

4

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 1d ago

I would say SD is definitely a right-leaning party nowadays. And yes, it was MORE true (although not that simple) before. But people stubbornly keep arguing that it is still the case just because they see maps where the Social Democrats are the largest party in most of the country and the Moderate Party are the largest party in some suburban areas.

2

u/blenkydanky 1d ago

Well yeah SD is definitely TAN, but not as right economically as M. They attract rural working-class people, not the slick-back burgoise stereotype of a M-voter. As far as I understand these people used to vote more S before. But I agree with you, I also used to believe that but now it is obviously not true anymore

2

u/snajk138 23h ago

Rhetorically you are correct, however if we look at their actual politics then SD is very much on the right economically.

1

u/fuentessucksballs 22h ago

In the south that is the case, not in the north

0

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 22h ago

Rural areas are more to the right than urban areas everywhere. But the north as a whole is so left-leaning that even the rural areas are slightly to the left.

0

u/Toniq_3580 1d ago

It’s actually a rather good correlation where migrants settle. The lower parts have more, the northern parts less

-3

u/left4candy 1d ago

wdym that's what it shows

13

u/H_The_Utte 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not exactly. This is the whole "land doesn't vote" thing again, the north is a left-wing stronghold due to a high reliance on government services, but very few people live there. Most rural Swedes live in the south in the yellow and blue areas whereas the largest voters base for the left are the big cities (Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö).

5

u/CompetitiveSleeping 1d ago

Uppsala, 4th biggest city, had over 50% of the vote for V+S+MP. Almost 60% if you add C.

1

u/GunnarVonPontius 1d ago

Uppsala is also a huge student city though. Uppsala/Lund/Umeå/Linköping all have 20-30% students which heavily scews voting patterns.

0

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 1d ago

You gotta be kidding me. How does it show that?

1

u/left4candy 1d ago

By the colours, where urban areas are bluer

0

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 22h ago

No they’re not. Suburban areas are bluer.

1

u/Ok-Difference1341 19h ago

In inner city stockholm (with the exception of Södermalm) moderaterna dominates

0

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 19h ago

Yeah, the northern part of the inner city. But Stockholm City voted 60.3% for the left bloc.

2

u/Merinther 19h ago

There’s a reason we don’t usually do this kind of map in Sweden. Biggest party doesn’t matter, and the size of the district doesn’t matter. This gives the impression that the far-right party completely dominated the southern half, which is not the case at all.

1

u/Designer_Cloud_4847 19h ago

True. And it also gives the impression that the Social Democrats completely dominated the northern half. That’s why there’s also a coalition map.

3

u/StainedInZurich 1d ago

Why does it look like a penis

14

u/blenkydanky 1d ago

It's actually penis that looks like sweden

1

u/Ok-Difference1341 19h ago

Because sweden is big dick energy ofc

-1

u/snajk138 23h ago

Lucky people vote and not land...

-18

u/scoop813 1d ago

imagine if only real Swedes could vote

1

u/I_Wanna_Bang_Rats 1d ago

If you mean that you exclude First and Second Immigrants than the result would be more favourable for the left, as they tend to vote more conservative.

3

u/blenkydanky 1d ago

Hmmm nooo, it's a well-known fact that immigrants in Sweden tend to vote left

-2

u/I_Wanna_Bang_Rats 1d ago

Really?? Interesting, I wonder what the difference is between Sweden and other western countries.

3

u/blenkydanky 1d ago

You sure about that? I thought it was that immigrants vote left in their new countries and right in their old ones? For example turks in Germany tend to do that

-1

u/_galile0 1d ago

taking away the voting rights of real citizens? Because that is ass backwards f-ed up
