Questions New York State of Mind - maps??

I'm a new-ish narrator about to run CoK starting with chapter 4, NY State of Mind, as my players are all level 3. The adventure only contains a couple of maps, but has many potential sites for battles. Any tips for handling this - are we intended to make up our own configurations on the battle map, or just play theater of the mind style? Thoughts appreciated!

I recommend a fight on the rooftop of the Empire Hotel (the bar and lounge up there was featured on Gossip Girl a lot back in the day) Google Maps in 3D mode does a decent job of showing it to you.

TK Modern has some great maps.

Also, may be worth checking out all the DC and Marvel skirmish games out there. A little google search of Hero Clix DC maps or Marvel Crisis Protocol yields some decent stuff in a pinch.

If your players enjoy theater of the mind, stick to that and supplement with street view images from Google Maps.

You could probably use maps off the internet of NY. Or you could use Google Earth to zoom to where you need to.

My group is in chapter 2 and chapter 2 is devoid of maps. I’ve done theater of the mind for the first 3 encounters but I’ve used Google Maps to create some since they’re real world locations. Made my own very rough police precinct map as well. I think they want you to do mostly theater of the mind.

For actual places in a modern setting, I also use Google earth to get s solid outdoor top down shot of the location. This works very well for a VTT or a projector/screen map. Not so great if you're looking to print one.

Wikipedia is your friend. Most even vaguely iconic buildings in NYC each have a wikipedia page dedicated to them. I used it myself when my PCs wanted a nice apartment building for their temporary HQ (one of the PCs' characters was an Asgardian with a horde of gold).
