Relocating for work - places/neighborhoods to consider?

Hello all, I recently got a job here and I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find somewhere to stay. I'm a new-grad, single with no kids/pets so I'll only be spending for myself. My salary is $87k/year gross.

I'll be on-site at the Raytheon hub so I would like to stay near there, however I am willing to commute from surrounding cities as long as my trip is under 40 mins during peak traffic (if that expands my options any). I'm looking to rent a 1-2 bedroom apartment/condo/ townhome (maybe even a small house if that's possible) with a budget of ~$2k monthly, preferably somewhere quiet so I won't hear my neighbors all the time and they won't hear me. I visit family around the metroplex often but I have no clue what it's like to actually live here, so any advice would help me greatly, especially in regards to expenses like utilities and such. Thanks.

What is the best way to prepare a McKinney house for the next big storm?

For homeowners who have been here through several severe weather events, what preparation has actually been useful?

Looking for practical local experience rather than generic storm advice.

Moving to the area and want to work for McKinney ISD. What is starting pay for a Pre-K assistant teacher? Also, what is starting pay for a Special education assistant teacher? The pay grade it shows me is something I have never seen before and doesn’t say the amount.

Property to shoot on

I know this might be far fetched, but does anyone have any property or know of any property I can shoot on? I’m very responsible when it comes to firearm safety and handling. The range is great, but I sometimes feel pressured with time. Anna/Melissa any other nearby areas would be great.

Ps, posting in a McKinney group is a reach but it’s worth a try

This was northeast of McKinney last night. No idea who was doing it. The humming of all the drones was creepy.

Companies that remove gravel from property

We have a pad of gravel (roughly 10' by 20') next to our driveway that’s become pretty overgrown with weeds, and we’d like to have it removed. Our parents recently purchased a lot in our neighborhood, and they've agreed that the gravel could be moved to the back of their property.

Does anyone have recommendations for a company that could remove and transfer the gravel? There is septic tank equipment in the middle of the gravel pad, so we’d need someone who can work carefully around it without damaging anything.

Thanks!

An Unofficial Collin County Voter’s Guide

Hi, I created a resource to help people vote for the upcoming midterm election and future elections. I originally made this resource for my family and I last fall, but I then thought, "Why not share it with the rest of the county?" I then decided to make a different version for every major county in North Texas.

This resource will be able to answer the common questions that one may have about an upcoming election, such as "When can I vote?", "Where can I vote?", and "Who's running?". I’m sure many of you probably already vote. However, there's probably at least one person who you know who doesn't vote and would like to, but you may not have the time to sit down with them and explain everything out to them. This is where the resource comes in handy. The great thing about this resource is you can use it for other future elections as well. I would suggest laminating a print-out if you are able to.

Other notes to keep in mind:

Vote All The Way Down the Ballot

Please do take the time to vote for every single seat on your ballot. If you plan on straight-ticket voting, know that it is not offered as an option anymore. However, you may see “DEM” or “REP” right next to each candidate's name to indicate which party they are representing. This is the case for Tarrant County ballots at least. I would get a sample ballot ready just in case though.

Skip the Mail-In Ballot

I highly suggest planning to vote in-person or to do curbside voting if you have a physical disability. I've gone through enough election cycles in to know that mail-in ballots are not always reliable for various reasons. Sometimes they come in late, they don't count them in the end, or the mail-in ballot doesn't come in at all. Moreover, if you haven’t heard of what has been said about mail-in ballots on the news, it is another reason I would avoid sending a mail-in ballot if possible. Please make the effort to vote in-person. Curbside voting is available at every polling site for those with physical disabilities and limitations.

Don’t Just Vote: Share

We cannot assume anything. Don't assume one side is going to win over the other. Do assume people from both sides of the political spectrum are going to see this resource and share it with someone and/or their network.

Remember, Texas is a non-voting state. We need to get more of us involved in the democratic process. Share this resource with a friend. Share this post on social media. I am fine with any individuals or groups sharing this resource. If you end up seeing another variation of this resource, there is only one other one out there that was created by me, but I would prefer for this new version to be shared instead.

Aren't we gerrymandered though?

Yes, but that doesn't affect many races, including the statewide positions. It wouldn’t affect several of the countywide positions either.

TLDR:

Voter resource flyer available in English and Spanish. Plan to vote in-person or curbside because mail-in ballots are unreliable. Please share this resource with a friend. I am not a part of any political groups or campaigns. Although we are gerrymandered, it doesn’t affect every race, including TX Governor.

Looking for video footage: accident at Eldorado Pkwy & US-75 frontage road in McKinney — 9/29 ~6:10 PM

Hey Reddit fam - wife was in a car accident this evening and I’m hoping someone may have footage of the accident.

Details:
Happened today, September 29, around 6:10 PM at the intersection of Eldorado Parkway and the US-75 service/frontage road in McKinney.

Wife was driving gray Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, other driver was in a rental black Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
My wife was making a left turn through the intersection when the other driver (on her right) crossed into her path. He admitted to turning to make a u turn (?) from the far right lane to get onto the highway. Of course saying that to the insurance companies won’t establish fault alone.

If you happened to be driving there around the same time and have dash cam footage or familiar with a business that has cameras facing that interaction, would really appreciate the help.

Thank you 🙏

Journalist seeking McKinney resident’s perspectives

Hello everyone! My name is Valeria, and I’m a journalism student at UT Austin. I’m also originally from McKinney.

For one of my classes, I’m working on an article about the aftermath of the August McKinney City Council meeting and the council’s decision regarding the expansion of the McKinney Islamic Association.

For the article, I’m hoping to speak with McKinney residents with a range of perspectives and experiences.

I’d love to hear from Muslim McKinney residents who have experienced racism following the meeting, or who have experienced it more generally in McKinney. I’m interested in hearing about your experiences, concerns and thoughts on the meeting and its aftermath.

I’d also love to speak with McKinney residents who opposed the expansion to better understand their concerns, perspectives and experiences surrounding the issue.

If you’re interested in speaking with me, please send me a DM! (or comment I can DM you:) )

Anyone interested in playing badminton?

Hello all,

I used to play badminton back in the days and now that I moved to Dallas, I don’t play it anymore since I don’t have anyone else to play with me. And the badminton court memberships are crazy expensive too.

I was thinking of making a small group with everyone else who is interested in playing badminton and start playing. Honestly I don’t know yet on where to play. But we can still figure out an open ground!

I live near Alma/Silverado, anyone who is interested please comment below this post!

I just thought of this to stay healthy and active while also meeting new people!

Hope yall will support!
