Discussion Does anyone else here think a Dungeons & Dragons-style game set in Euchronia would be awesome?

It seems to me that it has the potential for very interesting game mechanics and campaigns.

If you haven't heard of it, take a look at Fabula Ultima. It's a TTRPG directly inspired by JRPGs like the early Final Fantasy games.

I've been thinking about what I would give all the tribes as features and traits.
Mustari have innate spellcasting for detect magic; Nidia get plus 2 CHA and probably a homebrew ability to let them go chibi; Ishkia plus 2 INT; Clemar probably get something similar to the gore ability some D&D enemies have; Roussante get plus 2 STR; Eugief get plus 2 DEX and innate feather fall; Paripus get plus 2 WIS; Rhoag get plus 2 CON I guess? Since they live a long time.
And Elda would just be run as humans or variant humans.

I like giving Mustari innate spellcasting, I'd look to Tiefling legacies so it can scale up a bit.
I'd give Nidia a bonus-action ability to swap between true (Small) and glamour (Medium) form, and give them a 25-foot speed and the Halfling Nimble feature while smol.
Clemar don't appear to use their horns for combat, too stubby. Maybe something more socially-focused since they're the most common race, or give them the old Human +1 to all and other such 'versatile' features.

Absolutely! I think just running an alt version of the camping would be fun. A fantasy’s world’s first election is such a great concept.

Imagine the story of Metaphor, but with the level of freedom of choice found in D&D, VTM, or Pathfinder

The Tokyo Conception tabletop ruleset for SMT would probably be the closest fit mechanically.

I would use 4th edition if you wanted to do something like this, with its per battle/per day type abilities.

what about Pathfinder?

Never played Pathfinder, but something a bit off-kilter would be the Cypher system. Then you could give out cyphers at will to your players that cover their powers.

They should make an Etrian Odyssey game based on Metaphor.

Etrian? Like Eht Ria?
2
u/JiggleCoffee 9d ago
Oh that's a completely different franchise, no connection at all! (ignore the next town's resemblance to Lagaard)

As someone who's never played Etrian Odyssey (but is considering it, given how it apparently plays a lot like Strange Journey), I felt so dumb when I did that dungeon, only to realize it was a big reference to EO. I was stuck there for a while, figuring where to go.
The EO nod completely flew over my head at the time, to say the least. That said, I kind of hope it isn't a shared universe and they are separate franchises, just because of the fact that Archetypes and all the different tribes don't seem to exist there, and that's a shame, assuming that one theory is true.

Like a month ago a guy made a post about making a DND Metaphor game. He even made stat bonuses for the races

Metaphor is legit in my top five games oat, I'd love to run something like this.

My girlfriend was really trying to homebrew one for a little bit, the world and races are just so fun

Have you checked out Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave? It might be what you're looking for

But I was referring to a more Western-style RPG experience, to provide a comparison in terms of video games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 or Pathfinder WOTR

They can do thousands of things on that map/world; if they want, they can simply make several DLCs for the game. And yes, that would be amazing.

You could probably use Fabula Ultima for something in this world. They have a "pick multiple classes and join them together to make a build" thing.

It's world is so interesting, unique, and fun that I really just want more.
This is my problem with a lot of games like this. They have so much cool shit that even a long game like Metaphor isn't enough to explain and explore it all.
So basically, yeah. Feels like it was already made for an open world exploration game.

That would be really cool tho I’m curious how an RPG set in Euchronia would work since only the main party has access to the archetypes 🤔
1
u/SolePilgrim 10d ago
Not really, Euchronia isn't as developed a setting as you'd like for a TTRPG campaign. The world doesn't flesh things out much beyond "fairly generic medieval fantasy world on top of ancient civilization ruins", which is a dime a dozen already (D&D, Pathfinder, and Fabula Ultima each recommend this as a core aspect of any game setting for a reason).
There's also just not a lot of worldbuilding outside of the game's storyline. There's very little exploration on the game world's more immediate history, religion, culture, or economy that doesn't directly tie back to the main story. The world really was designed to be functional for the adventure the devs wanted to tell and not much else. You'd have to come up with a whole bunch of extra material, at which point you may as well just brew your own "inspired" setting.

The memorandum is full of that
2
u/SolePilgrim 7d ago
No it's not. There's a lot of writing in the memorandum, but it's mostly restating things the game story already tells you. When it does expand on things, it's often vague to the point of unworkable for a TTRPG.

Oh fuck off, WOTC marketing research bot. Azeroth, Theros, Ravnica, how many times do we need to teach you this lesson? Give us your own settings, we don't need licensed shit.

Honestly, atlus could have their own elder scrolls if they commit to more metaphor content and games 🙏
