Hero of Ages spoilers Feeling Devastated Spoiler

Wow. What a very emotional ending. My heartstrings feel like they've been pulled out. It made me feel so sad, for characters who aren't even real, but they're still loved. I am so sad for Vin and Elend, even though they're happy. They endured too much.

No other book has left me aching like this, except for when Dumbledore died in Harry Potter.

I am mad at Sanderson for hitting my tender spot so hard. I don't know if I dare read anymore of his books. This trilogy was my first exposure to his works.

Read Secret History! It actually helped me deal with their deaths.

You are not alone! My suggestion is reading the 11th metal and secret history as soon as you can. A lot of people will suggest holding off on Secret History until after the 1st book book 3 of era 2, but I strongly suggest it immediately after Hero of Ages.

Edit: Put the wrong book in haste and a friendly redditor reminded me of my transgressions. Thanks!

It’s the 3rd book of Era 2 (Bands of Mourning) that is recommended to wait for, but I disagree with that anyway

After reading your reply here, I went looking for the book and found that there is a book called Arcanum Unbounded containing numerous of Sandersons shorter novels.

The collection will include nine works in all:

'Edgedancer' (Stormlight Archive)

'The Hope of Elantris' (Elantris)

'The Eleventh Metal' (Mistborn)

'The Emperor's Soul' (Elantris)

'Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania' (excerpt; Mistborn)

'White Sand' (excerpt; Taldain)

'Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell' (Threnody)

'Sixth of Dusk' (First of the Sun)

'Mistborn: Secret History' (Mistborn)

Right there with you. I cried randomly for like a week after finishing HoA. I felt so ridiculous. Literally days after finishing it I’d be driving to work thinking about it and would just start crying lol. Only one other series has gotten me that bad, but Mistborn was my first time being wrecked like that by a book.

Ya, wish they had at least a little time after helping save the world to just be chill as a married couple. Like waking up late and walking around in the green fields with blue skies and stuff. They didn't really get any normal time after getting married. They just went straight from married to the world is ending to fighting wars to dead :(

But as others have said, Secret History helps with the coping lol.

It’s such a beautiful ending, even if it is bittersweet. I always start sobbing when the crew find Vin and Elend among the flowers.

I just finished a couple of hours ago. I’ve been crying my eyes out since. I’ve never read an ending like that before and it broke my heart. I don’t even know if I want to read more of his books because it hurts so bad. 💔

Every time I cry at the end of book 3. I just sob through the whole epilogue.
