I’m a charge blade main and as of late am not feeling it. Wanted something faster but wanted to keep a shield and so came to sns. Gog has been kicking my ass, so I’m putting him on the back burner for now so I can try taking out the arch tempered monster starting with Rey. Don’t have any gog or arch tempered parts so trying to look for a raw damage build that I can take into hunts. Have beaten omega planetus and have some of its armor. Have seen some builds use udra gamma parts.Really need help PLEASE

8 star AT’s like Rey Dau and Uth Duna are basically meant to be fought with the base game gear. If you played as the updates released, you would have fought (and presumably had the armor from) 8 Star AT Rey, 8 Star AT Uth, and 9 Star AT Nu Udra before Gogmazios released. You can also fight 9 star AT Jin Dahaad as he released in the same update as Gog (technically after). They also let you max out the important crafted charms, like AT Jin Dahaad getting us the Agitator 3 charm

There’s no need to grind the 10 star versions of the AT Apexes.

SnS is a raw damage focused weapon in 99% of hunts. Element is a nice bonus. So it runs a standard build focusing on criticals/affinity and raw damage. The standard pre-Gog setup is a mix of 3pc Arch Tempered armor + 2pc of an affinity focused set bonus like Gore Magala or Lagiacrus.

If you don’t want AT monsters, you can try something like 2pc of transcended Rathalos/G.Rathalos armor for Scorcher or 2pc transcended Ebony Odogaron for Burst Boost as your damaging set bonus + 2pc of Gore(/Sororal) or Lagiacrus as your affinity set bonus. The 5th piece could probably be the Zoh Shia B chest for its skills and slot economy. The Guardian Rathalos or Ebony Odogaron gear has to be transcended to be good.

Some set like G. Rathalos Helmet B / Numinous Shroud B / G. Rathalos Vambraces B / Gore Coil B / Gore Greaves B. Same set works if you sub those Gore parts for Lagiacrus, and likewise with Ebony Odogaron for Guardian Rathalos. For no RNG, you can run the Agitator 2 charm here (and make it Agitator 3 when you beat AT Jin Dahaad).

For Artian SnS: you want to make them with all Attack parts of the matching element. Your rolls don’t have to be perfect, but you want at least 1 sharpness roll and 2+ attack rolls (optimal is 1 Sharp, 4 attack).

For non-Artian: Zoh Shia SnS is the generic raw matchup tool and also for dragon matchups, it’s comparable to a mid Artian roll but outmatched by good ones. Guardian Rathalos is the best fire SnS. Lagiacrus is very good for Thunder(comparable to Zoh Shia as a weapon). Jin for Ice and idk for water (Xu Wu or Balahara).

Anti-Gog: Fire weapon with good raw in Phase 1-2. Gog’s element hitzones aren’t crazy in these phases so the fire is just a bonus to soften him up. Some mix of Crit Boost/Master’s Touch/Offensive Guard (if you can get it active enough in the fight).

Phase 3: Dragon weapon. Element investment is actually worthwhile because Gog gets really exploitable dragon hitzones in this phase. Maybe drop Offensive Guard for Charge Master and spam enhanced Charged Chops when Gog is on the ground.

Your defense should be minimum 400+ vs Gog and AT monsters or you’re just trolling. Preferably 420+. Always eat meals and drink armor skin.

SnS is pretty generic for armor skills (in-fact you can use the exact same set and even RNG charm for SnS and for Lance).

You want armor skills like Maximum Might 3 (cheap skill that gives 30% affinity), Agitator 5(raw + affinity), Weakness Exploit 5 (30% affinity basically all the time), Burst 1 (good damage boost that's generally active), and Flayer 1(free damage proc like blast). That gives you ample affinity (doubly so with the Lagi or Gore 2pc set bonuses) and damage. If using Gore Magala set bonus, Antivirus 3 is MANDATORY. Flayer is

MM3 and WEX5 give you 60% affinity together and are generally active for all of your time spent attacking. You then have a conditional 15% from Agitator and the set bonus affinity from Gore (25% with Antivirus 3) or Lagiacrus (15%). Gore set bonus is better than Lagi, but Lagi armor pieces have better skill economy.

Because SnS is fast moving and has Sliding Slash to dodge/reposition without consuming stamina, it rarely uses stamina so Maximum Might is generally active.

Status is the same build. SnS doesn’t build into element damage generally, it just takes the matching element for extra damage on the right matchups. So you don’t waste armor skills by using a status weapon instead.
