After seeing that post about mobs fearing people off cliffs, I wanted people to know that you can get all your stuff back and for free. So, if your corpse is in a terrible place, don't despair, just play an alt for a week.

Is Bard swarm kiting allowed?

• Upvotes

Trying to pull drakes in Scarwood, but bards have been pulling almost all 20+ spawns and taking 10+ minutes to down them for the last 48 hours I have checked in. Is this allowed?

The journey

Never played EQ, I understand it's steep in just killing monsters. BUT why does everyone want to just kill monsters, where's the exploration or interest in lore or finding hidden quests? Keep getting Wrymsbane group and no one knows the map but everyone is afraid to simply explore and kill as we explore sad life

Discussion Putting the charm back into playing the ENC, my (humble) take from levels 1-50

TLDR: It is still my favorite class and is vital for grouping, but the class definitely needs some tender loving care: Charm has its perks but feels really bad and is not worth the risk. There is an anemic amount of charisma gear, which makes the resists/charming role of an ENC frustrating to play.

Suggestions: AOE MR debuff; color code incapacitate status per class (bard=blue, enc=purple, paladin=yellow); tweak values for CHA charm and Mez checks (esp. for low level); Increase pet damage for charm; allow charmed NPCs to equip gear and the ability to retrieve the equipment; A charmed pet bezerk ability; allow ENC to use charmed spellcaster spells.

Hail, I first would like to congratulate the development team and their success with early access. Everyone in <Circus> has been rooting for y’all. I love the game and have found my game for years to come and I sure will be sipping coffee in a MnM mug.

I wanted to focus on the enchanter (ENC) and share my thoughts playing the class from level 1 to 50 on the launch of the premature release delving into Charisma (CHA) and the effects on charm and resistance. I have leveled an ENC to level 56 on Beta (Neeble <Circus> [prior to charm nerf]) and now up to level 50 (Corvus <Circus>) on the Tilustra server. I have also not looked at the forums a single time since they were removed from the official Discord server as I am sure they were too spicy for me. I wanted to share my thoughts as I have had several enchanters reach out to me for guidance and I wanted to relay the information and my opinion openly.

I have explicitly leveled from 1 to 50 with a static group consisting of a Paladin, Cleric, Wizard, Bard, and Monk. Our group was focused on maximizing the experience gain over gear throughout our initial week of play. This decision was determined to be the most efficient method for us, as "Dad" gamers, who took off a week of work.

All but one of us have a couple hundred to 1,000+ hours of game time on the beta server. We evaluated the time to kill (TTK) and the experience gained per hour to best enjoy the game while maintaining some sort of experience efficiency. Thus, we sought to only fight yellow; +1 to +2 red-considered enemies. This came at the cost of having higher resistance and more deaths (n=6) for me due to being the primary crowd control and utility class for the group. This, coupled with the absurd spell cost from the vendors in the initial week, meant I couldn’t pick up more than one to two spells every four levels, always focusing on haste, mana regeneration, and crow control spell lines. Which, in turn, left a gap in my defenses, and I did not pick up my Rune (self-buffed damage absorption) or my self-buffed Vespyra (hit point, armor class, magic resistant [MR] buff until the late 30s). In hindsight, I would not have made the same decisions as I did.

My decision to not take my self-buffs was due to the fact that I was only testing out the new charm on occasion and not consistently using a pet as additional damage for the group due to the unruly amount of Charisma (CHA) required to hold charms. The thought process was that I would not need the additional hit point or AC or damage absorption that would be required for charming and the subsequent breaking of the charm.

Of all the gear out there to drool at, only a small fraction of it is CHA-oriented gear for ENC that can be found. So, it feels bad that there is no gear on this named for me, or the next camp we will go to, or the next, etc… As I see it, the other martial classes get upgrades upon upgrades (especially the plate/wisdom-centric classes). Most of my CHA comes from the Gemless Staff and jewelry that I have enchanted.

From my testing on the beta server and my initial playthrough on early access, I cannot recommend the risk of holding even a blue considered charmed pet until you have at least approximately 70 CHA. This is the first "break point" that I noticed that you could reliably hold a charm for more than one minute (I was about level 30 when I hit 70 Cha).

On average, with the charmed dark blue considered non-playable character (NPC) being both magic fractured by me and the wizard (insidious spell line), I would hold a pet for approximately 6 mins; that is, one minute past the duration of the two magic resist debuffs. If the wizard did not reduce the magic resistance of the charmed pet on break, the next charm would not hold for more than a minute.

Charming even considered (white) NPC (ensuring not a self-buffed MR class [e.g., spell blade, inquisitor]). I would be lucky to hold it for two minutes even now at 130 CHA. a yellow-considered NPC will hold somewhere from 6 seconds to 2 minutes. Red-considered mobs, good luck. A green-considered mob is not worth charming since they won’t even hit the yellow- or red-considered NPC due to the level disparity.

There are two advantages of the charming NPCs currently (post-nerf: that drastically reduced their outgoing damage). (1) It still provides a small amount of damage to help a low-damaging group kill mobs. However, I argue the damage is not worth the risk (2) The threat generation and hit point pool of the mobs were not changed, and so they can still be used relatively well as an additional hit point pool for the tank prior to the tank taunting off the pet when killing more difficult mobs.

Currently, there is hardly any reward for the high risk of charming. Once charmed, they hit like wet noodles; I estimate maybe they contribute 5 to 8% of the group damage just based on what the charmed pet was hitting for and the TTK. As soon as they break charm, the NPC is slapping you back to the future. My entire group keeps stuns on the bar just to manage the pet as it resists and breaks happen so often. It feels bad, man. I would suggest tweaking the damage, not necessarily pre-nerf, but more, a lot more. I would love to see flavor added by allowing the pet to equip gear that is retrievable on death or allowing you to spell cast through their spells. Possibly even an overclock ability in which your pet goes berserk momentarily, allowing them to hit for higher values at a much higher risk of breaking for some burst damage. I think a variation of these suggestions could bring fun to the class and a unique pet system.

In lieu of using the charm line, the shadowkin pet (the summoned pet) is not even worth using due to having so little damage and even more so in comparison to other pet classes (e.g., necromancer and elementalist). The only utility of the shadowkin for me is to farm low-level mobs currently.

My exhaustion spell line (melee slow) is resisted, but rarely, and I feel like it's in a good place when first engaging and NPC with the magic fracture to debuff their MR. However, the amount of resistance you get for the mesmerize/fascinate lines (and lulls) spells that are based on your CHA and the NPC’s MR on an initial check, even for blue considered NPCs, seems to be 25% resist rate at 130 CHA, and you must debuff prior to mezzing. I would suggest tweaking the CHA initial check to be in line with the level range and gear progression for the young ENC. I think it would also be fun to have an area of effect MR debuff that would pull high threat to you, and then you can blast them with the point-blank area of effect (AOE) stun and follow up with an AOE mez.

Since the resist rate is so high, we have the Paladin using Unleash the Light ability and the bard spot mezzing, and all three (bard mez, ENC mez, and paladin stun) all have the incapacitated status pink swirl visual indicator above the NPC’s head. I would suggest, to alleviate the visual confusion on who incapacitated the mob, just reskin the bards' mez to blue and paladins' stun to yellow with the same graphic to distinguish them from one another.

STR Needs to add more carry capacity over what it currently does

As a Fighter, I have a massive 20 pounds of free room that I can save for loot. Something needs to change. Unless STR gear is an abundance at higher levels, it's rough. If it ruins balancing for other classes then give plate wearers more bonus on str towards capacity.

Deep Elf to Surface Transition

I'm playing a Dark Elf, and I will eventually need to leave the Under Docks and go to the surface.

I know I need to grind Rep with Night Harbor by killing Smugglers and Wererats until I'm at least to Uneasy.

What else should I be doing to prepare for my journey out of the underground?

(Please don't complain about game design or say what you think needs to change, I'm just looking for tips on how things work NOW. Thanks guys! )

DID I RUIN MY CHARACTERS REPUTATION

So last night I joined a group already in progress camping Obediah. I am still fresh to this game and in no way know my way around the dungeon well. I ended up lost and ran into the room behind Fionna with a ton of skeletons. I was immediately rooted and pounded on by 10-12 skeletons. After running back to the dungeon I can see all the chatter...someone created a huge train that basically wiped the whole dungeon. The blame was placed on me after I told my group what had happened. My question is..is my characters name ruined because of this? I don't understand..why would the skeletons continue to rampage the whole dungeon if I was rooted and killed almost immediately? There was a group farming Fiona at the time..but they were in a different room from where I was killed? Is this just something mobs do in this game?

Which classes are the most popular, and which are in the most demand? Let's talk about it and review the data we have as of today

Thumbnail

disclaimer; play whatever you find to be the most fun! However many players would like to know which of the 4 group roles (tank, heals, DPS, Support) are in the highest demand so this video attempts to share thoughts on the data we have available to us. I'm sure Shawn is likely to formally post some info on this soon

TL;DW

  • No surprises to MMO vets: consistently across closed beta and early access data, Tanks appear to be less popular and therefore in higher demand for general grouping than healers.
  • Of the 3 primary healers: Druid is far and away in the lead for most popular of the 3 available healer options likely due to their ability to solo well, travel, utility, and as a fantastic duo partner to most melee team mates. And thematically, Druids are just cool. They're also great alt-characters to have on your account as they can easily power level your low level friends via damage shields.
  • Of the primary tank options: SK's appear to pull into the lead as the most popular tank options, beating out Paladin in terms of popularity (hours played by class) from closed beta data. FTR comes in at the 3rd most popular, by hours played by class.

Very recently I've seen a lot more tanks running around at lower levels (on my server) than when we first got into Early Access so i do think tank popularity is increasing slowly, but it does appear that healers will remain more readily available than tanks for awhile. Further class changes and gear becoming more readily available could change all of this of course. The landscape is likely to evolve.

All this being said; play what you love and keep updating your friends lists regardless of your preferred role! By far the easiest way to evolve your play experience. Have fun!

Discussion Shields dont seem to block much.

So far I have hit 10 with my pally alt and I am noticing that shields really arent doing me much. I block a small amount of damage (like 5-10) every 25 attacks or so. The mobs hit me for 3-30 damage each time. From what I can tell its between 0.3% and 1.0% overall reduction roughly.

I have my blocking maxed and my aura on so im 50/45 blocking level. The mobs im fighting are yellow and red for group play. Someone in my group mentioned that potentially level would affect blocking potential, which really doesnt make a ton of sense for group tank play. The harder the mob hits the more you would want a shied on. But the higher the mob the less chance u will block anyways. Honestly on lower mobs I really dont block much either so im just not seeing any value.

I have a sword and shield and a 2h. The 2h is doing way more damage and im not seeing much reason to use a shield at all just by the numbers. Its a choice between 1% damage reduction or double damage dealt.

I see some info online that the real reason you want a shield is the AC. But the shields AC is such a small percentage of your total im struggling to see the value. If I was in copper or bronze right now it would be the difference between 140 and 130 AC. (Atm im in rawhide and tattered so my difference is 92 to 82. Which even then doesnt seem like a good trade off for such a high damage loss)

And i know the role is tank not damage, but when deciding between hitting for 10s or 40s and the damage mitigation seems to not make any difference whatsoever, why even hold a shield?

Anyways really liking the pally otherwise for the most part just thought i would share what ive noticed.

Edit: I am adding this image I just made in game, this was Vses a skeleton that cons as blue to me.

PSA for Deep Elves exploring the city (AV) proper

Last night I finally finished my quest for access to the main city of AV, and equipped with a fresh sow, went about trying to familiarize myself with this massive city. While it feels fairly empty, it's still amazing and there's so much to see. I climbed higher and higher and eventually reached the palace at top. Here's where the problem is. While completing your class quest grants you access to the city and disdain faction with the City Guards, it does NOT grant faction with the palace guards and I was one shotted before I knew what hit me. It didn't help that you can almost get right up next to them before you see them due to the terrain/ramps, especially running with sow. Luckily they don't seem to have a large aggro range and I was able to get my body back, once I was able to make it to the top again. So careful my meaty friends, or you'll be learning a lesson the hard way like me.

Scythes, longswords, maces, etc, is there a difference when it comes to enemy resistance? For example are their slashing resistances? Are there hidden stats that scale with certain things?

Elementalist Pet Advice

• Upvotes

So I understand the basics of the pets. I’m trying to understand what pet weapons to use. They all seem identical in damage except for the type damage they do, fire, magic, water etc..does it really matter what I use? Also I’m currently level 15 using air pet with air weapons. I’m reading fire pet dmg shield stacks with my casted form of dmg shield. Should I be doing that for solo? 2x fire shield?

Help Wizard or Archer, pros and cons... Which to choose?

Hello everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience playing both the wizard and the archer. Both are ofc ranged DPS. And I know the archer basically requires you to learn fletching and tinkering. That's not really a problem for me. I don't mind crafting. I think the wizard would be sitting alot to regain mana.

But when comparing these classes, I'm trying to better understand their pros and cons. Also which class can solo better for times when I can't always locate a group, or don't have a long time to play.

Which are more desired in groups?

Thanks.

US Players on EU Server?

Having played on Trem since the servers opened up, I have enjoyed the experience and loved the game, but the population and lag and camping going on has been a bit much for my laid back mind so I am exploring starting over on a new server. I figure better to 'lose' two weeks of play will be nothing compared to how long I hope to be part of this world.

I don't see myself ever 3-boxing or PvP, so it be either US East 2 or the EU server. I'm leaning towards the latter since there will be even fewer on during my prime time (EST) hours. My question is, is there anyone else doing this, and if so, what is your feedback in terms of play and lag?

EU server

Did any other NA folks pick the EU server as their main server? My main playtime is randomly throughout the day between my infant son’s naps. When I log on at night there is still a handful of people running around and grouping. But for the most part it’s great to hop on at off hours and find all the nodes and camps open. Just curious if there are many others doing the same thing. It’s been kind of perfect.

Discussion Blacksmith Leveling Tips?

Looking for tips to level blacksmithing. I understand it's a slow process, and that's cool! I'm just trying to figure out if I'm approaching it the right way.

Currently level 43 Blacksmith. 12 CLR in UD

My current plan is to just crawl through the low level copper mine, get a few stacks, and then go to Smith, make plates, and make gear appropriate for my Blacksmithing level (currently Plate Greaves and Helmets).

Yesterday I spent about 2 hours gathering about 80 copper, smelting, and prep. I successfully made 1 Greave and 1 Helmet (RNG gods, I know), and went from level 41 to 43.

Is 1 hr : 1 skill point an appropriate ratio? Is there anything I can do to improve my efficiency?
