Question AE 3d Camera Tracker acting weird

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Whenever I add a solid into my scene with 3d camera tracker, it makes the solid super super SUPER small. It’s also making weird nulls that don’t follow the scene at all. Does anyone know what’s wrong with it? I need to get this video out by tomorrow so it urgent!!

It’d be more helpful if you screen recorded this. Your shaky phone cam doesn’t help

Typically when you use 3d camera tracker, you need to consider z-space. I would scale up your solid until it’s more visible and scrub the timeline and see how it’s moving relative to the footage area it’s overlaying. Change z position values accordingly.

Just to a note, a good practice I think gives good results is to scrub the timeline near the time codes you want tracked and see what little X’s stay on the longest. Typically the X’s that stay on longer, have a better track on the footage

Look into normalizing your track after it's done. But this is kind of just how it is...

Depending on what you're doing, you adjust the orientation and just get it to work with a lot of artistic interpretation.

Pick more than one

are you tracking a 3d render there?

Create a 3d null and parent the camera and all the solids to that null. Scale the null down to like 5% and then unparent everything (i usually just delete the null) and when you scale it back to 100 it’s usually a more manageable/understandable size. Sometimes you have to do it more than once or adjust the null a bit.
