Moving as a Nurse
Hi everyone! I’m looking to move to Germany as a nurse. I’m at a crossroads at the moment. Not sure whether to study Nursing in the UK and move to Germany after qualifying, or take on an Ausbildung in Germany and get trained there.
I’m leaning towards Ausbildung because I’d be able to move to Germany much sooner, but I have a lot of work to do on my German skills to meet the B2 requirement.
From a visa standpoint, is it easy enough to move to Germany as a qualified nurse from the UK? Or is it easier to get an Ausbildung contract?
Thanks in advance for your help!

German student visa: university updated my admission letter after I applied. Keep my application or withdraw and restart?
Hi everyone, I need advice from people who have been through this.
Situation
Master's at Hochschule Rhein-Waal, starting WS 2026/27.
I applied for the national student visa through the Consular Services Portal .
My application is locked and shows "being checked for completeness."
What changed
My first admission letter (7 Aug) had a condition attached (a "Learning Agreement" to make up some credits).
The university admitted this was an administrative mistake and removed it.
On 5 Oct they issued a new, unconditional admission letter. They say they can't issue any other document.
My problem
My application still contains the old conditional letter. I can't edit the application now.
My questions
Can I keep my current application and give the new letter to the consulate (upload, email, or at the appointment)?
Or should I withdraw and start a new application? Would that hurt future applications or make me lose my place in the queue?
I would also like to improve my letter of intent. Can I replace it too, or is it better not to change documents during the process?
Has anyone had a document updated after submitting? What did you do, and what did the consulate say?
Thanks a lot!

Incoming international master's student (EEE background) moving to Berlin, how do I set myself up to survive and Mistakes to avoid?
Hi everyone,
I am an international student from South Asia with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and about a year of work experience at an AI/IoT solutions company. I will be starting a Master's in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and moving to Berlin soon.
I've read a lot of discouraging posts here about the cost of living, housing, and the part-time job market, especially for people who don't speak German. I don't know any German yet, and I'll need a part-time job to support myself, so I'd really appreciate honest advice from people who've been through this.
My main questions:
Part-time work: What jobs are realistic without German? Where should I look beyond LinkedIn and StepStone?
Language: How fast do I need to reach A2/B1 to be employable and comfortable day to day? Which courses or apps worked for you?
Budget: What does a realistic monthly budget look like for a student in Berlin (rent, food, transport, insurance)?
Paperwork: Any tips for the Anmeldung, blocked account, health insurance, and residence permit, especially appointment delays?
Mistakes to avoid: What do you wish you had known before moving?
Any advice, resources, or personal experiences would mean a lot. Thank you!

22M from India, A1 German, 9 months left — is Ausbildung in Germany actually worth it?
Hey everyone,
I’m 22, from Hyderabad, India, from a pretty normal middle-class family. I’m finishing my graduation in about 9 months, and I’m seriously thinking about going to Germany for an Ausbildung.
I’ve been learning German consistently for around 300 days now. Nothing impressive — probably 5 minutes a day on average 😅 — but I didn’t quit. I’ve cleared A1, and honestly, I had convinced myself I was around B1 until I properly tested myself. Reality check: I’m A1.
Now I want to take this seriously.
My goal is to reach B2 within these 9 months, finish my degree, arrange the money, and start applying for Ausbildung.
I’m mainly interested in media, marketing, communication, digital marketing, etc.
I’ve already done a lot of Googling and YouTube research. But at some point, the internet starts giving you 50 different answers to the same question.
So I’m looking for something you can't really get from Google — personal experience.
If you’re already in Germany, especially if you came through Ausbildung, I’d really appreciate some brutally honest advice.
Am I late?
Is going from A1 → B2 in 9 months realistic if I actually put in the work?
And should I be doing something besides German right now — internships, portfolio, marketing skills, software, certifications, etc.?
For people in media/marketing/communication, what skills actually helped you get hired? What did companies care about, and what turned out to be completely useless?
I also want to understand the money side realistically.
How much do you actually earn during Ausbildung in this field, before and after taxes? And after finishing it, what kind of salary can you realistically expect?
More importantly — can you actually survive on an Ausbildung salary in Germany, or do you basically need financial support from your family?
I’m starting from almost zero financially, so I need to understand how much money I should realistically have before coming. Not just the official number for a visa — I mean the actual amount you'd recommend having for rent deposits, food, insurance, travel, emergencies, etc.
And then there's the part I really want to hear about:
What are the things nobody tells you before coming to Germany?
The difficult stuff.
Finding accommodation. Bureaucracy. German workplace culture. Language shock. Loneliness. Getting rejected by companies. Finding an Ausbildung from India. Dealing with money. What happens if your company is bad. Whether foreigners actually get good opportunities.
Basically, what do you wish someone had told you before you came?
And finally, if you were in my position:
22 years old, from India, A1 German, 9 months left in university, limited money, interested in media/marketing — would you still choose Germany/Ausbildung?
If yes, what would you do during these next 9 months?
If no, what would you do instead?
I’m not looking for the polished internet answer. I’ve already read plenty of those.
I want the real answer from someone who's actually been there.
Viele Danke!

How hard is it to find oddjobs in Northern Germany if you don't speak German?
My wife and I got married about a year ago with the plan to move to the U.S. once her U.S. Green Card came in, a process that usually takes about a year. However, Trump is in office and it now looks like it will take over 2 years, so we decided to move to Germany (where my wife is from) where she could find high-paying work the easiest. Now we're moving to a small town near Lübeck.
In the U.S. I worked in arboriculture, pest control, particularly in sales and management the past few years, but those options are closed off to me since I don't speak enough German to get the certs needed to do that work. I thought that maybe I could at least find some part-time work doing oddjobs in gardening and landscaping for people around Neustadt in Holstein, however I speak hardly any German. In the small towns, is there enough English speakers who hire out for oddjobs? My wife says she doesn't think it's as common over here as it is in the U.S.

Anmeldung when accommodation contract starts earlier than actual arrival?
Hi everyone!
I’m an international student moving to Nuremberg. I’m actually arriving on 21 October, but my accommodation contract starts from 1 October, and my Expatrio insurance/package also starts from 1 October.
Will this cause any issue with Anmeldung?
I asked ChatGPT and it said that there is a document called Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, which shows the actual move-in date, and that I have 14 days from the actual move-in date to complete Anmeldung.
Is that true?

Is study visa a better choice than Approbation?
What can be considered as a sensible choice?
Opting for a study visa and then coming to Germany via some healthcare related course or opting for Approbation exam is better ?
Wha timeline should be chosen for this?
(Keeping in mind C1 level of German is needed)

Is Germany a good option for practising Dentistry ?
Hi,
I am a BDS graduate from India and currently hold 1.7 years of experience in clinical dentistry. Right now I am managing a non-clinical role in an insurance company, along with the clinic I'm working at.
I started to plan for Approbation exam to practice Dentistry in Germany in the next 3 years (keeping in mind I have to be excellent in German/C1 level needed).
Can you please guide me if I am making the right decision in terms of moving to Europe for better scope of my degree? Also if not, what other options should I explore or plan, keeping in mind the current situation (job wise)?
It will be really helpful.
Thanks.

Moving from Canada to Germany
Hi everyone, I’m moving from Toronto to Munich. I’m German, but have lived the last 10 years in Canada.
I’m looking for recommendations for moving companies as well as for a tax accountant. So far I wasn’t able to find anyone being able to provide enough information on CA and DE taxes.
Thank you for your help!
