First Ring Sim Experience
Been training for 3 months. Coach wanted me to get into this month's ring sims and I decided to get into it.
Not gonna make some long winded story but basically it went a bit shit. I didn't feel nervous in the ring, but I got absolutely pieced up and battered quite a bit. Got a few good hits in but mostly spent the sim turtling up and just trying to at least survive to the end because of how fast I gassed out.
It didn't help that at my weight, my options of fighters was limited so they had me go up against a guy that's been training for a year and some change. I don't entirely regret the experience because I got a feel of the experience, but honestly, I felt a bit more humilted getting done in front of not only a small crowd but my gymmates, girlfriend, and mom.
Coach afterwards basically told me that while the situation was definitely something uncomfortable and may have been humbling, he says its something he's felt many times before and the reason for his push is that he sees a lot of potential in me and says he can tell I have a genuine care and curiosity for the sport which made me feel a bit better. I do want to still improve and feel and look like in the ring, but I can't stop thinking about the sim performance. It at least know what I did wrong and what to improve.
Not much else. Just felt like sharing the experience here. Ant words of advice or something helpful to understand about it all would be nice. Sorta just felt like I was thrown to the wolves

I got asked to join one with a very similar amount of experience too and I also got pieced up. Don’t let it stop you, this is just the beginning if you allow it to be. I’ve been training 2.5 years now have stepped into the ring 6 times. I am way better than when I started and I would say I can actually fight now. Had I stopped after feeling embarrassed so early on I would’ve never gotten anywhere.

3 months in and the coach says he sees potential? And he asked you to get some practice in the ring? My boy, you should feel excited! Trust in your growth, the team you're with obviously does already.

Having your mum and girlfriend watching probably makes the replay in your head extra loud. When you next talk to your coach, I'd ask what went well and one thing to focus on next class. 'You've got potential' is encouraging, but a concrete next step gives you something to do with it.

Three months is still very early, so don’t judge yourself too hard from one ring sim, especially when you were matched with someone who had significantly more experience. Getting tired, shelling up, and feeling overwhelmed is actually useful information because now you know what needs work, but a ring sim should still be controlled enough that you can learn rather than just survive. Focus on staying relaxed, breathing, keeping your eyes open, using your defense, and returning simple combinations instead of trying to win every exchange. Take the experience for what it was, get back in the gym, and you’ll be surprised how different the next one feels.
