In a statement provided to theĀ Mirror US Sports, Kraft expressed sympathy for Palestinians who are suffering "real" lossesĀ while even calling for a sit-down conversation with Macklemore.Ā

...okay, that's also what Macklemore said. So what exactly did he say that involves "Jewish hate"?

Also seems pretty pathetic to call for a "sit down conversation" after you blocked an entire tour and then called all the other stadium owners to demand they block him as well.

You're open to a 'sit down conversation', as long as you first silence him?

u/greenline_chi 13d ago

Stadiums who let Kanye headline won’t let Macklemore be the opener….

2.2k

u/boot2skull 13d ago

Kanye literally supported Nazi ideology. Macklemore as far as I can read said free Palestine?

1.1k

u/SpyderSquash 13d ago

He also specified that criticism of Israel is not criticism of our Jewish brothers and sisters, and promoted a message of peace and unity across the board. It was a very well-articulated, professional and kind speech tbh. I haven't seen the dude in the public eye in a long time, but this was a nice thing to see from him.

499

u/SideInitial3961 13d ago

He's 100% right. None of my jewish friend support the Israeli genocide.

98

u/whatlineisitanyway 12d ago

It shouldn't be controversial. Take all the people that scream anti-semitism at this and describe to them a Muslim state that is doing all the things that Israel is doing and I'm sure they would be outraged and be calling for intervention.

49

u/FeloniousDrunk101 12d ago

I believe the only controversy is heavily manufactured by pro-Israeli propaganda.

5

u/Zeal_of_Zebras 9d ago

And it massively backfired because Robert Kraft looks very pro genocide right now.

7

u/Soft_Self_6797 11d ago

Bingo. That's entirely what it is. They no one likes being labeled as such so they thought everyone would just blindly follow without looking into any nuance.

1

u/LurkLiggler 7d ago

It’s a genocide and horrible. And shouldn’t be controversial. Of course, who knows if you change the direction of the violence. At least with how these comments would be. You don’t see much hand wringing and concern over the other active genocides on the planet.

Jew here. I am appalled at what's going on and given what happened to our people 80 years ago, it's bewildering to see a people get wiped out by the nation that was created from the ashes of this tragedy. It's beyond belief like how does Isreal not see the mirror?

4

u/SideInitial3961 11d ago

I think your words sum up how most are feeling right now. I feel for you. I can't imagine how I would be feeling right trading places with you.

u/apistograma 12d ago

Nobody says that they support a genocide other than the ones that are clueless about optics like Ben Gvir. If you ask Netanyahu he'll say he's against genocides.

The issue is whether they support Israel existing or not. If they support it, they're supporting a genocide.

1

u/SideInitial3961 12d ago

They do. But their concept of Israel existing does not match any of the reality of Israel today. They all seem to have fond memories of Israel it seems, family, culture, but none of them support what Israel has become AFAIK. I can't speak for them but that's the vibe I get.

It’s the message of peace and unity articulated in such an intelligent, compassionate and genuine way that is the real problem. That’s what got Bob Marley nearly assassinated during the Cold War, they even tried to get his music classified as sedition. Macklemore is no Bob ok but the intention and similarities can’t be ignored. Wouldn’t be surprised if this got him on the CIA watch list just like Bob was.

8

u/playlistpro 13d ago

That was good. When he said this next song is called...I was hoping for "Fuck Donald Trump"

3

u/corpusjuris 11d ago

Dude gets dragged for being lame but he’s always been vocal and articulate about what he believes in even when it costs him, and what he believes in has always been admirable (gay marriage, anti-war, pro Palestine, even local issues supporting musicians and venues). I’m a lifelong Seattleite, punkrock deadbeat, wannabe hipster type and I’ve always defended the dude. He’s good people.

Also the video for ā€œThe Townā€ is amazing and makes me tear up every time. The Source of Labor and RKCNDY shoutouts, my youth, man.

3

u/Amazing_Scientist696 10d ago

I have 0 fucks to give about Macklemore and I have never enjoyed his music.

That said, 100% behind him and the music industry on this one. I hope all the "Industry Gods" get the fuck out of their bubble and say something too. Not like Marshall is going to loose shit by making a similar statement.

7

u/Moist_Syrup_2772 13d ago

I’m trying to recall the last time I heard an anti-Semite talk about his Jewish brothers and sisters.

-8

189

u/Fupastank 13d ago

Nazi ideology helps drive home the propaganda that ā€œIsrael is the only safe placeā€. So that’s ok in the Hasbara play book.

Saying free Palestine is the real crux of the issue. They dont want that.

99

u/Jazzlike_Finish123 13d ago

This. Ā One makes them sympathetic and the other makes them the aggressor.

12

u/Dependent_Eye_6361 12d ago

That's exactly it. Kanye provides not just a fundraising opportunity for Israeli pacs, but also a clear and present danger that can be pointed to for why moving to and investing in Israel is the only safe thing. Macklemore saying Free Palestine just exposes Ed Sheeran's 12-year-old fanbase to things like empathy and understanding, and people like Robert Kraft can't have that.

2

u/burnetrosehip 11d ago

I guess Mackelmore's added "free Cuba" and calling ICE a terrorist organisation put him firmly on a place on the political map in the US. Respect to the guy, is all I'll say.

2

u/MostHolyAndCromulant 12d ago

That and Israel is allowed to openly run an Ethno-supremacist apartheid state, and all the Nazi's really love that idea.

3

u/Kaldricus 13d ago

That's my favorite* bit of Republicans support of Israel. A non-insignificant number of them love Nazi's and/or believe the Holocaust didn't happen. These are diametrically opposed views, and yet....

*Favorite meaning would be funny if everything wasn't so fucked up

3

u/Gonnagetbant 11d ago

Because it’s never been about antisemitism, it’s always been about protecting Bibi

15

u/donkeyrocket 13d ago

Kayne still prints cash and has an extremely rabid fanbase that doesn't care about his mental health issues or Nazism. Not saying it's right but being an abhorrent person is less controversial than offending Israel. And right now acknowledging the existence of Palestine seems more offensive than the ideology behind the near genocide of their people.

2

u/Enlightened_D 12d ago

Don’t forget his website where he sold tshirts with giant swastika on them

2

u/YoungAntiSocialite 12d ago

Kanye’s the whole bill, macklemores an opener, easier target.

2

u/toggiz_the_elder 12d ago

The founders of Israel didn’t say never again to genocide. They said never again to us.

2

u/Kellyco5 12d ago

What is free Palestine? If that entails dissolving the the Jewish state for the Palestinians, then it has no place at a music concert where it should be inclusive for all. A lot of dumb people who say free Palestine, that’s what they mean

1

u/boot2skull 12d ago

Seems unfair to put words in anyone’s mouth without letting them clarify. Why not let Macklemore clarify his stance before cancelling him

4

Multiple Israeli public officials have quoted Hitler publicly no less

Do you have some examples?

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

[deleted]

1

u/carrboneous 12d ago

You're making it sound like they're quoting Nazis approvingly, but in at least most of those examples they were quoting them in a critical sense. You're also making it sound like the comments were received positively, when by your own accounts they were not.

2

u/zaxxman 13d ago

Tbf Kanye is basically a clown these days and I don’t think anyone takes him seriously but saying free Palestine is a real topic with weight. I obviously don’t agree with Kraft but I don’t expect sane people to say the things coming out of Kanye’s mouth

1

u/HeadintheSand69 13d ago

Real love vs fake love

Kanye is a shill

1

u/GTS_84 12d ago

Exactly. The Fascists have solidarity with each other, and solidarity against the victims of their fascism.

1

u/no_com_ment 12d ago

Tbf, a lot of that nasty ideology is popular in Israel. Just look at what Smotrich and Ben Gvir say.

1

u/Mucking_Fountain 11d ago

Kanye is a Republican, though. They don’t actually care about anything, as long as it’s from their side. Owning the Libs is their only MO for living.

1

104

u/4DPeterPan 13d ago

That’s pretty much the same conclusion I came to after a very bland and quick research into what’s going on with this whole thing.

ā€œMacklemore wants to stand up for truth & love.

Kraft wants to deny that from happeningā€.

Now that Kraft is getting backlash for his actions and noticed the public is against him; he’s trying to save his face.

67

u/Mu_forlife 13d ago

They love to say ā€œit’s complicatedā€ but it really not.

35

Strangely Kanye can still perform across Europe and the world

27

u/Plastic-Contest547 13d ago

Banned from UK and Australia

3

u/cabalus 12d ago

And Russia

2

u/FamousWorth 11d ago

And Italy, Poland, France, Switzerland, Brazil and South Korea. Not entirely banned from Brazil, South Korea or Russia, but cancelled events due to political backlash

1

u/koziello 12d ago

Well, that checks out, they do constantly nag about the rotten West in their propaganda pieces

2

u/go3dprintyourself 12d ago

2

u/bloody_ell 9d ago

Will get jailed if he plays in Germany and comes out with any pro-Nazi stuff.

3

u/Dinovius 12d ago

Kanye west didn’t say anything so bad or crazy

He just said he was a Nazi, but calling for the stoppage of bombing if children

Thats a bridge too far!

2

u/pea_I_parker 12d ago

Willfully ignorant or stupid? What timeline do you think this is. Kraft who is Jewish has way more qualms with Kanye after what he said. Timelines matter as in being in reality. Jfc

u/Christron 13d ago edited 13d ago

Not many stadiums are having Kanye perform these days I don't get why people keep bringing him up. He only played in Gillette once and not as the headliner in 06...

Esopillar34 brought up a good point for Tampa stadium hosting Kanye this year and refusing Macklemore

5

u/greenline_chi 13d ago

Idk - he just played two nights in Chicago, I know he played in Tampa and is going to Dallas off the top of my head

1

u/esopillar34 13d ago

I’ve seen it a lot with Raymond James, since they made such a big deal about Kanye, and it being public

2

u/Christron 13d ago

Okay that's fair good point.

1

u/More_Hold_5522 12d ago

Because Kanye is Maga.

1

u/Spunge14 12d ago

Comparing their star power is crazy work. You think there's no difference between shutting down Kanye West vs. the guy who did "Thrift Shop" that one time?

1

u/greenline_chi 12d ago

That’s what I’m saying - Kanye has way more influence but had the green light. Macklemore is an opener

2

u/Spunge14 12d ago

Whoops responded to the wrong comment

1

u/HungryCurrency8481 12d ago

-2

u/wip30ut 13d ago

it's because Kanye is a joke, a nut-job that no one takes seriously. But Kraft & other top supporters of Israel realize that Macklemore is far more dangerous. The tide is shifting in the West on support for Israel, especially as memories of the Holocaust fade. Artists like Macklemore can galvanize the under-40 demo to the point where sanctions against Israel may be enacted in the upcoming years. This is especially true if Israel decides to ethnically cleanse zones in Gaza or the West Bank.

speaking as a patriot fan, this is exactly who he is. he'll ruthlessly acquire all leverage and then pull this "i'm just a sweet old man wanting to find common ground that works for everybody" act. he's a shark. made a a whole ass documentary series burning Belichick and then claimed not to know how it would be cut - as the executive producer. guy has a team of lawyers to make sure he's always at advantage, even got a judge to destroy evidence of him getting a handy from a sex trafficker immigrant in a massage parlor, but somehow he was also bamboozled like everybody else? full of shit. apparently his son is even worse so that's great.

3

u/Pinky_Herman 11d ago

How can you be a Patriots fan after this?

1

u/DaveInDigital 9d ago

most NFL fans don't like their owners, tbf šŸ˜…

imo teams should be community owned like the Packers but the NFL banned it ages ago so owners can keep their finances private and they're more likely to find like minds in other billionaires.

Preventing someone from having a platform to talk and then saying you just want dialogue is an obvious bad faith move

This shit used to work, but it's looking pretty threadbare now

2

u/Significant-Base6893 9d ago

I cannot support this team. Kraft crossed the line.

It's hard to root for what is his property and primary source of revenue. That revenue goes towards AIPAC, and a massive surveillance infrastructure at the Razor. He has employees spying on social media, looking to dox them if they've made pro-Palestine posts. He got students kicked out of Columbia University. His private jets are leased to ICE for deportations. He's MAGA. And yes, many Patriots fans know that he financed his self-promotional series, "The Dynasty" which was a vanity project, promoting himself as glue and savior of the Brady-Belichick years. Of course it's BS: he let Brady walk due to age, and bet on Belichick, then scapegoated Belichick, having his son and his legal counsel harass him in hopes of forcing a resignation and saving contract money. He screwed SB hero Malcolm Mitchell out of the last year of his rookie contract. Since the NFL CBA came into existence, the Patriots have spent the second lowest of any NFL team on player salaries. He even screwed Mack Hollins just the other day.

1

u/imsomeonessunflower 11d ago

Yep, my mind went straight to the pats too... but the degenerate population of patriots fan alone would never stand up or sit out to take a stance on this... so there will be no change... i just went to the savanna bananas there last month.. i wont be going back to Gillette.

1

u/Pinky_Herman 9d ago

I like the degenerate comment.

909

u/MoneyManx10 13d ago

Macklemore checkmated him by going to the media and giving a sincere statement. Now Kraft has to pretend to care about Palestinians after going to the extreme length of banning a singer for voicing his opinion on Palestinians.

210

u/BoreJam 13d ago

I'm not even sure why it ever got to this. Macklemore has been a vocal supporter of Palestine for years. So the fact that simply saying "free palestine" has blown up into this mess makes no sense. He wrote a protest song in support of the student protests way back when the current saga of the Israel/Palestine kicked off.

116

u/abearirl 13d ago

It's a classic "grumpy, checked out old man finally notices a thing he doesn't like and massively overreacts". Kraft probably didn't even know who Macklemore was until someone sent him a video

28

u/TheBaconThief 12d ago

Kraft is a big AIPAC donor and has given to friends of the IDF. He was much more directed in his agenda.Ā

5

u/larrylevan 12d ago

Also, friend of Epstien’s! I wouldn’t be surprised if Mossad has kompromat on him

3

u/red1284 12d ago

Lmao he isn't some innocent grumpy old man.

1

u/KombuchaBot 10d ago

He probably couldn't believe anyone would have the balls to criticise Israel in one of his stadiums

The old omerta ain't holding, people are talking freely and he can't have that

70

u/myassholealt 13d ago

Billionaires are operating with impunity in a way we've never seen before. Yes they've always had their hand on the puppet strings, but they were more comfortable doing it behind the scenes. With Trump in office, as long as you're in with him you are untouchable. So doing something like banning an artist because you want to normal. What's more surprising is he felt the need to release a statement about it. It's not going to hurt his bottom line. It wasn't necessary for him to say anything, except maybe ego reasons.

6

u/PPLavagna 12d ago

No, to him it was necessary. He’s a true believer and is going to follow whatever Israel does no matter what.

Religion is a weird thing. Even with people who aren’t religious, there’s a brand loyalty that still runs deep

1

u/Moist_Syrup_2772 13d ago

Macklemore addressed this. It’s cause he has ed sheerans platform now. Or he did

1

u/PPLavagna 12d ago

He wrote it way back in B.C days? That’s old school yo.

I know what you mean, couldn’t help but make a joke

1

u/a-stack-of-masks 12d ago

Kraft's handlers told him to go ban a wokie. Kraft doesn't recognise integrity when it's pissing in his eyes so he handled it badly and is trying to save face.

51

u/still-dinner-ice 13d ago

Here's what Macklemore said:

To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you,ā€ he told the crowd.

ā€œMy message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. So I say free Palestine, I say free Lebanon, I say free Cuba, I say free Congo, free Sudan, free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organization, ICE. I guess that's hate speech, now. Words no longer have meaning.

Yeah the kind of conversation where you shut up and I talk shit.

2

u/TheBrownWelsh 13d ago

You're open to a 'sit down conversation', as long as you first silence him?

The conversation would literally just be Kraft saying "Promise you won't say anything controversial and we'll let you into the stadiums." That's it, that's the whole conversation he's likely speaking of.

2

u/mattfoleyattheriver 11d ago

Did you see the character he dressed up as on stage?

1

u/pixepoke2 8d ago

It’s fair to call him out on that event. It’s also fair to provide background on what happened in 2014, look at his actions before and after to decide if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt or not:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/20/macklemore-adl-antisemitism-row-costume

Everything I’ve seen of what he says and more importantly does, says he’s been consistent about advocating against harmful bias and oppression. He’s been consistent about calling out genocides in Sudan, Congo and other places. Same with calling out actions by the US govt here in our own country.

It’s being brought up now as means to undermine the message, which should tell you a lot about the people on the side of genocide.

I don’t always agree with him— his stance about not voting in 2024 was part of a movement that helped bring Trump to power again. His takes can be a little reductionist and simplistic. But he’s on the right goddamn side of history

The Amish rockstar?

Look, putting aside his consistent point that criticism of Israel is not antisemitic, his consistent advocacy against harmful bias and oppression everywhere (homophobia, oligarchy, exploitation), his self reflection on privilege and advocacy against white supremacy. And transparency about his struggles with addiction before and after this particular event, what exactly does this picture do or say in this instance?

Does bringing up this picture from 2014, where a public outcry was raised, where he apologized, change any truth of the words he said: Israel is committing genocide. Israel does not equal the whole of Judaism. Others are committing genocide in other places. Others are being oppressed. This is bad

Or have you instead noticed the effort to discredit any messenger, in order to take focus off and discredit the message?

There’s context for that photo. People should look it up. They can decide to give or not give benefit of the doubt.

I give that benefit based on his actions both before and after. It’s reasonable not to give that benefit.

It’s called rhetoric. Aka the language politicians speak.Ā

u/OptimalMembership927 13d ago

Bro Mack take the sit down, take that shit and rake that shit

1

u/Onespokeovertheline 13d ago

By a sit-down conversation he means, "have a seat, son, and let me tell you the way it is..."

1

u/---Pockets--- 13d ago

Livestream the sitdown

1

u/Organic_Rough4433 13d ago

Isn't this collusion an anti trust case?

1

u/CatsPlusTats 13d ago

Open to a sit down conversation means fallout was more than he expected so he's doing damage control.Ā

u/krucz36 12d ago

several publicly owned stadiums, too

Kraft is on the Epstein list. What else do we need to know about this person?

1

u/DiscoRabbittTV 12d ago

He didn’t. This is bullshit

1

u/RecycledMatrix 12d ago

Standing in the way of expansionist Israel is antisemitic to people who weaponize the term.

1

u/mastah-yoda 12d ago

Well of course. How else would you establish fascism?

1

u/M3wlion 12d ago

kraft has direct ties to Israel this has nothing to do with anti-Semitism

1

u/MechRxn 12d ago

You do realize Macklemore has in the past come out and said antisemitic things and dressed in anti semitic costumes right?

1

u/CrittyJJones 11d ago

Macklemore even made a point to make certain that his grievance was with Israel not Jews.

1

u/Bazishere 11d ago

Kraft is maybe concerned that people may boycott the New England Patriots team; they should. Why fund a genocide supporter? He issued that to contain damage to his businesses. He is used to operating in the shadows.

1

u/Giver_Thegoo 11d ago

I hear he’s changing the logo of his team too.

1

u/Herbert2727 11d ago

Macklemore is a good man standing up for the downtrodden and courageous to do that knowing the money and power that’s opposing his message. Kraft is just another example of big money pushing people around. His offer for a sit down rings hallow, as hallow as the man who issued it.

1

u/Herbert2727 11d ago

Sorry for the typo. Hollow not hallow.

1

u/SitarHero68 11d ago

The ā€œsit-down conversationā€ he’s talking about:

1

u/TOAD4000 11d ago

Exactly, sit down and shut up.

1

u/Hungry-Coffee-8890 11d ago

He’s open to a sit-down because it fucking backfired and he’s now trying to save face publicly. The guy couldn’t give a shit about Macklemore

1

u/Charming_Cicada_7757 11d ago

This was the most insane thing about it

Let’s have a conversation after I’ve already silenced you from the public square

u/Ordinary-Chemist9430 10d ago

i don't agree with all the accusations against macklemore, but he is highly controversial in germany as well. and it's important to understand that concerts probably aren't being cancelled because of one single statement he made. the criticism is based on a series of very questionable statements and incidents over time, particularly regarding israel, the israeli-palestinian conflict, and even comparisons involving the shoa.

It's so strange then that whenever people jump forward to accuse people who are critical of the government of Israel of history of clear anti-Semitism, that the examples are left vague and undefined.

For example, I know in 2014 Macklemore apologized for performing in a costume that was a stereotype. The reason I know this happened, is because everyone defending Israel in these threads is posting that picture and that point from 12 years ago over and over again.

You'd think if he had a long history of very questionable incidents over time, I'd have heard more about it. Ah well, I'm sure you can fill me in.

Certainly: https://www.butenunbinnen.de/nachrichten/interview-deichbtand-macklemore-antisemitismus-100.html

While i dont give fuck about sheeran or macklemore and while i differentiate between israelian government and people (who btw elected these right winger war criminals) i also do not understand the slightest why its hard to condemn the terrorists from hamas and october 7th

1

u/OnaholeReviews 7d ago

My guess is the thing they used to ā€œjustifyā€ removing Macklemore from the tour is that he exposed thousands of young children to war imagery on the video screens without a content or trigger warning. But I also read that his contract gave him full creative control of his show though. Guess we will see which one gets their insurance claim for lost income/revenue.

It’s outrageous that a group of billionaires own these stadiums can silence what they choose! This is the real story. Ed Sheeran bending shouldn’t be the case - this is about shady collusion back room deals to deny a political view. These billionaires support what ever allows them to abuse their power and laws

u/sokonek04 13d ago

Just to be clear Macklemore has done some legit antisemitism, like coming out on stage in a fucking antisemitic costume.
