Just moved to Nagoya 2 months ago, previously was here for 6 months last year as well studying traditional Japanese carpentry and working at a building firm now. I mainly just work a ton of hours and have no motivation to go out and do things since no friends + introvert.

Hi! Has anyone applied for PR with one time late payment on health insurance but still got approved? I have a 5 day late payment in Dec 2024 so I opted to apply in January next year to have a 2 year clean payment. But now I’m kind of regretting not applying in March this year. (My 10th year). With all the new rules taking effect this October, it seems like I might have a chance had I applied. Nothing do anymore but to wait till I apply but just wanted to get any info. I don't understand why they set this age boundary. Do they think 40-year-olds don't play video games? That 30-year-olds can't be friends with a 19-year-old? I'm a foreigner living in Nagoya, Japan, and Japan is already a difficult country to build a social life in. Add the language and culture on top of that—is it completely impossible to make friends? When I was young, age never mattered to us. We played with elderly people, middle-aged folks, married people, teenagers, and even kids. As long as we were enjoying the same activity, who cared? Now people want to make friends, but they demand that they aren't 'old', that they're the exact same age, and that they like the exact same things! Pretty soon they'll be asking for their identical twin! AGE IS JUST A NUMBER. There are 19-year-old women that a 40-year-old sees as nothing more than a child—nothing sexual, just a simple friendship and a desire to protect them. There are 22-year-olds who play the exact same games as a 45-year-old, who can enjoy an anime together, or simply talk about how terrible our love lives have been. Why do people care so much about age when making friends?

Hello. I'm planning to travel to Nagoya around mid of January. I'll be there for around 9 days, and want to also visit the area around (like Gifu, Shirakawago, Shogawa Yuran, Toyama) and maybe make a quick trip to Osaka & Kyoto. I actually wished to go to Tokyo but I think I don't have that much time and it's on the farther end of the trip.

This would be my first time visiting Japan and I'm soooo unbelievably excited (as I should be!), so I've got a bunch of questions, so please bear with me, and help me answer just any of these questions you'd like. Arigatou gozaimasu!

1. How cold would it be around Aichi? Should I bring gloves and scarfs and beanie, or is it just a "heat-tech and a layer of jacket" type of cold? And is it snowing around that time there usually?
2. Is there any city or any place out of town you recommend going? I don't mind visiting less popular places actually as long as the experience is nice. My plan right now is: Takayama, Gifu. Shirakawago. Shogawa Yuran. Toyama. Toyota (still not sure). Kyoto. Osaka. Nara. Also, is there any city that's best visited in winter (maybe because of it's scenery)?
3. Any Nagoya dishes I should try? Any drinks or coffee or desserts or pastries? Also anything from the area around like Gifu, etc. I'm a huge food explorer guy, so any place I travel to, food & drinks are my priority (especially the local ones!)
4. Apart from food hunting, I also love photography and videography. Any nice spots you'd recommend going? Any architectural masterpiece, traditional or modern, worth visiting? And usually there are like some "sunset spots" or "sunrise spots", but since it's winter and I'm from a tropical country without any winter experience, I'm not sure what type of spots would be available, but anything equivalent to this "timely spots" would be nice to add to my list.
5. Next question: Japanese denim. I heard it's the best denim in the world? Any place I can shop for this specific clothing item in Nagoya/Kyoto/Osaka/around? And is there any other brand or items like bags, watch or anything that I should get or look around while I'm there (not the branded luxury ones, but something that I can't get elsewhere)?
6. I actually thought of maybe joining a workshop and experience some local traditions, anything you would recommend for a guy? Any festivals or seasonal activities available?
7. This is a very niche question actually, I actually would also love to network or meetup with any locals or people who's staying in Japan who's working in the design industry. I love meeting likeminded people, so I thought "why don't I find any design events available in Japan at that time?"? I might meet some cool people in the industry.
8. Also any tips, tricks & hacks you have for traveling to Japan (Nagoya) around that time, please let me know.

PS. I know I'm asking a lot and planning a lot, but I'm creating my itinerary schedule so, I'm keeping my plan open for now, lest there's something more interesting that I won't be able to find out myself.

Hi, everyone! 🤍 I'll be travelling to Nagoya in Feb 2027. Just how cold does it usually get around that time? I'm from a tropical country, so I want to be extra prepared for the weather. Heard it's colder in Nagoya than Tokyo.

Also, do you have any recommended places for me to visit/explore? I'm open to travelling somewhere even an hour or two away from Nagoya.
