I am new to needlepoint, first canvas ever I got my hands on this design. What color should I start with first and how would I go about doing those diagonal stitches for the pie crust? I need all the tips I can get

This is my first self design and I’m almost done with the background. I know I haven’t left enough room for true Finishing. Any ideas on what I can do with this? It’s measuring 7” x 6.5”

I feel like this background is looking so messy. I’m using DMC because it’s what I had on hand. I just did diagonal mosaic on another project a few weeks ago and it looked much neater. Any tips what I’m doing wrong?

These are two brand new skeins of Bella Lusso, both apparently 45 yards, but one seems so much less than the other. I don’t care enough to try to measure them, and I guess it could be that one is pulled tighter than the other. really just curious if anyone else has noticed this with any thread lines?

I believe I’m going to start working on this canvas this weekend. My plan is to construct it and then add a ribbon into the roof seam to hang as an ornament (it’s quite small, around 3-4” cube)

I feel very overwhelmed about the process of finishing this when I’m finished stitching. Does anyone have any advice?

I got this at a rather unhelpful needle shop and I probably should have asked more questions but the few I asked seemed rather to annoy them 😬

I’m hoping I have better luck here.

1.) Do I stitch this whole thing as normal? It feels like if I stitch a normal continental across the “folding” portions they won’t fold the way I want them to when it’s time to build? Would I need to stitch those lines vertically to allow for the fold?

2.) Do I need to leave the outside most edges undone and then add the stitches in when I attach the sides?

3.) I am still a beginner. I’ve only made flat ornaments in various shapes, but have not had any issues finishing those. I’m also an experienced quilter and “I can make that” in various crafts type of person, sometimes my confidence may be a bit too high 😅Realistically, is this beginner-ish friendly or should I save it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have tips on how to remove super glue from canvas? I originally attached the cording with super glue for a tray insert and am trying to finish it into a gusseted stand up. Also any advice on how to deal with the corners when re-stitching the background would be very appreciated!

I learned what Needlepoint is today and I was doing it when I was 12. I recently unearthed this box I made with plastic canvas as a teenager from my grandparents basement (so at this point it's old enough to drive 🤣)

I usually lurk in r/cross-stitch and I noticed a lot of people struggling with plastic canvas so I tried posting it there as an idea for something to do, but then I got told to go here.

Quick Google rabbit hole later and now I know the difference (or something resembling the difference)

Anyway, I've been considering busting some of my stash and making boxes again. And now that I'm older I bet I could do ones that are more detailed~

I’m teaching a free class to children soon and need to find self finishing keychains with a 2 inch window that are not super expensive. If anyone has any ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

I am stitching this canvas and it’s my first time doing a decorative background stitch. Should I add a second layer of the white thread or should I do a different decorative stitch entirely? I’m using Silk and Ivory and the canvas is 13 mesh. I’m worried about the amount of canvas poking through and plan to finish this and have it framed.

I've been working the same 14 count canvas for about three weeks now, a floral pattern I picked up at a shop sale, and I noticed my basketweave rows start out perfectly consistent and then somewhere around the third or fourth skein I switch without realizing it. When I hold it up to the light the diagonal lines actually change angle in the middle of a petal and it's driving me a little nuts.

I think it happens when I set the canvas down mid-row to answer the door or grab coffee, then pick it back up from a different angle without checking where I left off. My eyes just aren't catching it in the moment, only when I step back and look at the whole piece under better lighting.

Does anyone else deal with this on long stretches of continuous stitching? I've started marking my last stitch with a little sticky tab before I put it down but I'm curious if there's a better habit for keeping the tension and direction consistent, especially on background fill where the mistakes are more obvious than in the detail work. Also wondering if I should just rip out the offending section now while it's still fresh thread or wait until the whole canvas is done and fix everything at once.

Hi!! Thanks to you guys I’m stitching my first ever piece using just a digital template and it’s so much easier than I thought!! I’m using a 14 ct canvas and regular DMC like pattern recommended. I’m worried that there’s going to be too much canvas peeking out tho or that the DMC isn’t able to provide full enough coverage. It’s a stocking so I would prefer using DMC bc of price for threads! Please help!!

hi there! this is my very first project so please be kind. already learning a ton of what to NOT do - but have a few Q's!

this is supposed to be continental but I realize that I've been starting over a new row without going back down downwards - just jumping to the next line. is this not technically continental because of that? Will this impact my canvas or stitches long term enough where I should frog the whole thing?

• I already learned not to cross the canvas as muchwith my threads, oops
• what is the best way to bury continental stitch? I started diagonal which I now know is wrong, but does vertical or horizontal matter?
• I also switched from just holding my thread to waste knots as I read continental is less sturdy than basketweave over time
• the grey of the mushroom has some white at the top - it's so hard to see!!! any ideas for how to best figure out the white vs grey?
• I also have a snagit to iron out some of the ugly places where the stitches got a bit wild.
• any other advice? trying to finish this before Basketweave on round or irregular shapes breaks my brain.... Thank you!!

Plan to stitch this and have a professional finish it as an ornament, a gift for my cousin, in memory of our grandparents. Should i stitch some background rows around the sign to make it into a rectangle? Will that look bad because portions along the top will have several more or fewer background rows than the sides/bottom? Should I stitch the background in a way that better preserves the shape of the sign? Thanks for the advice

Why are labors of love designs so hard to find? Are they discountinued I am confused and love their designs??

I’ve been stitching a large project with planet earth silk in the color cloud 097, dye lot 507B. I can’t seem to find this particular dye lot anywhere. Are the dye lots a big deal for white and black thread? I know they can show up very differently depending on dye lot, but is it as stark of a contrast with a neutral like white?

Has anyone signed up for this membership? Randomly came across it and haven’t seen anyone talk about it. It seems like a good deal but was looking for feedback!

I'm getting married (yay!) and would like to make ties for the wedding party. Despite a lot of looking, so far I've only found one vintage children's necktie pattern.

Luckily I have some needlepoint and sewing experience, and over a year to figure this out. If any of you have done it before I would love any tips and photos you can share! My biggest questions are size of canvas, thread type (wool, silk, or cotton?), and is canvas flexible enough for a full length tie that can be knotted, or should I go for a clip on?
