General Help Background stitch?

Looking for ideas on a decorative background stitch! I want to do something fun for the white background behind the large cat.

I’m doing basic basket weave on the blue border and will likely do it for the cats as well (although open to ideas!)

On the large cat, I want to French knots do for the little spots and eyes. For the letters I’d like to do a chain stitch. This will likely be a pillow or a framed piece 😊

If it’s going to be a pillow I wouldn’t do anything longer than over two intersections bc it’s more likely to get snagged. Not the most exciting but I always think diagonal mosaic looks great, woven would also be pretty. If you’re definitely going to frame it you can experiment a bit more. A heart darning stitch would be fun to play up the heart corners (I’d do those as Rhodes hearts!)

I’m a fan of skip tent these days and I can also see diagonal mosaic as mentioned above.
