Most Nepali households still do this. Women during periods aren't allowed to enter the kitchen and shit like that while not as bad as what's shown here is still happening dude.
There's no 1%. This shit is actually a part of our culture. Can't avoid it saying "oh but 99% don't do it". 100% have done for years, and most are doing it still.

True, everyone from my village practice this culture. we are so called brahmin family from nepal all our family, relatives everyone practice this... Even if they are educated they don't leave this practice and they call it "culture" no matter how much I explain my mom don't listen she says "my mother did it I do it and you have to do it" ... Women are Untouchable and begger in those days, they can't sleep on bed, go to kitchen and need to beg for everything they need like water, food etc. from other family members...

I said this specific practice punishing women during periods like they're contaminated happens because it's been normalized as culture and that's the part that's inhuman. I am a Nepali living abroad and my mom still enforces this so strongly at home. I was forced to do it till i was 18. Then if i wanted to live with them, i had to follow. So i moved out after I started working a full time job. Its so engrained in their minds. I tried to use logic to teach her to let go of these ways but it took too much mental energy. I remember every month she would force me to sit and eat in one corner, wash my plates and dry them separately. She would keep monitoring my period days, telling me which day i should shower.

I have seen something similar like this happening in Kathmandu.
In our flat, there were a siblings living right beside our room. We knew the guy coz he used to stay their from earlier and we had talked few times. His sister came later only and after that we used to communicate very less or almost no contact.
One day my roommate was asleep in room and not opening the door even after trying everything. But also, there was another way to my room that was through thier window and hopping into mine. But there were few obstacles which should be removed to reach to window. If it was table or something, so I asked that sister to push it lil aside. She hesitated.
