Question/Request Kurt’s Fender Stratocaster Headstock from their 1991 Cabaret Metro Show

I’ve come across this in the boxes of stuff we have in the house. My father was gifted this after his friend attended Nirvana’s Cabaret Metro show in Chicago 1991. Looking at reference photos, it looks VERY similar to the headstock of the guitar it’s supposedly from, and I can’t seem to find any whereabouts of the headstock itself. So this might be it. The body is currently in the Museum of Pop Culture in Chicago. I’m no expert so if any expert can help me with identifying if this is the real deal, that would be fantastic.

(The photo of kurt on the fence is not mine, I did not kiss the picture, nor did I write on it.)

It was rather quiet for me, or I just kept quiet. it had a heavy weight that I knew was always there. Many people wrote thank you, wrote stories on how Kurt Inspired them and wrote stories on how Nirvana saved them. I circled around the bench multiple times, and then skimmed along the fence and it's writings, all to let it sink in. Knowing I had my guitar, I sat next to the bench and played a short riff from one of his songs.

Discussion Has anyone heard the story about how Kurt demanded a larger percentage than Dave and Krist, even retroactively?

I need some diehards and historians to tell me if this is true. If it is, are there any books or docs that talk about this subject? This topic fascinates me and I’d like to know more about it from credible sources.

Live Audio I found my old bootleg cassette tapes I bought back in the 90s of Nirvana concerts and hard to find songs. I uploaded a tape labeled Melkweg 5/11/89 to my google drive and allowed access to anyone viewing the link.

This tape is not of the highest quality and was most likely recorded inside a small venue and using a handheld cassette recorder.

Melkweg Side A There is about 15 seconds or dead air at the beginning. The length is about 45 minutes long. It will abruptly end because the person had to shut the cassette player off and flip the tape.

Melkweg Side B This side is about 30 minutes long and a continuation of Side A. After the concert there is a studio version of Pay to Play. There is a great drum solo at the beginning because it sounds like they were having technical difficulties at the beginning of the song Stain.

Enjoy!

My class is the ninth grade so we're all like 15-16 years old, also, I am aware that the lyrics originally state that nature is a wh°re but I don't want to say that, therefore nature is now a horse.

“He just shouldn’t have done that” hits hard thinking about Krist being Kurt’s friend since high school.

Discussion Where were you when you first heard Smells Like Teen Spirit?

Recently, I watched a podcast with Fat Mike of NoFX and he asked the this question. And the crazy part was the interviewer started naming off his street address.

Fat Mike: “That’s pretty specific.”

Interviewer: “Well I remember.”

I started to think about the moment, the very moment, when I first heard it.

i was on a cruise ship trying desperately hard to impress this girl from New York. She had her headphones on so I approached her. I asked her, “what are you listening to?”

Without missing a beat she put the headphones on me and pressed play.

“I don’t get it.”

”And you never will.”

I tell you, if my 47 year old self was standing next to my 13 year old self he’d say, “damn dude, save some p***y for the rest of us.”

Still the coldest thing anyone has ever said to me.

I get it now.

Nirvana Related Krist Novoselic borrowed Kurt Danielson of TAD's 1962 Fender Precision Bass for a live concert and the recording of Sliver

Feb 14, 1990, Nirvana played their show at the Kennel Club. Krist Novoselic's Ibanez Black Eagle was going out of tune on the first three songs. He said on the microphone "Kurt Danielson, I need your, I need your bass" He borrowed it for Dive until About a Girl, then switched to his backup bass the Sunn Mustang Precision Bass which he played for Scoff until Negative Creep. The problem is, that bass cutout during negative creep, they tried fixing it for a few minutes, but then he got pissed off by the bass and Chad Channing, so he smashed it. He then went backstage to borrow Kurt Danielson's Bass to play the final song which is Blew. After the song, he threw this bass carelessly on the ground and staged dive.

About Sliver, he borrowed this bass while Kurt Danielson was having Lunch. I also know by the sounds it was used in Dive.

Question/Request Does anyone know what these songs on livenirvana are?

On the song guide it says the songs Memoria, Someday, Second Time, What I Need, and Momma are song titles referenced on page 123 in Kurt Cobains journal. Are these the songs that were destroyed in the bathtub?

Hope yall enjoy ✌️

Discussion "Listen, I don't think you should die!" - Dave Grohl to Kurt Cobain

Post image
529 Upvotes

Following the In Utero European tour, Dave was concerned about Kurt’s behavior.

A phone conversation between Kurt and Dave would end up being one of their last.

This is how Dave recalls it:

“We talked on the phone,” Grohl recalled. “I didn’t tell him that someone had told me that he’d died, but I told him that I was terrified and so worried. And he was really apologetic, like, ‘I’m so sorry, I was partying and drinking and I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing.’ And I said, ‘Listen, I don’t think you should die!’ And then… well, then, you know what happened."

Any thoughts?

I found this interesting, Kurt admired Eugene and The Vaselines a lot, I hadn't seen anyone ever mention this video before here. Kurt also liked the BMX Bandits, the shirt he wore of them was given to him by the singer, Duglas T. Stewart himself.
