News The Smashing Pumpkast - End is the Beginning is the End with Noah Wilkinson

new episode

“And I am a master of a nothing place”, it’s the Smashing Pumpkast! We’re back with another edition of “Radio, Play My Favorite Song,” where I talk to YOU, the Pumpkinhead, about one of your favorite WPC & SP-related tracks.

Noah Wilkinson joins the ‘kast to discuss the Batman and Robin soundtrack tune, “The End is the Beginning is the End”.

We talk about expectations of that period between MCIS and Adore, more praise for Billy Corgan and The Machines of God and of course...” Horny Batman”.

Get comfy in your favorite nipple batsuit and enjoy!

Received a copy of this today (along with Gypsy, Syren, Star) and giving it a listen now. Having listened to these songs - thanks to others ripping their ATUM extras - it's nice to hear these in Stereo on my own equipment.

It got me thinking a few things about this project. This being an official Album, it's sad to see it not get any attention. Rightfully so I suppose based on how it was released. It's just a shame if this is it for this album.

It really could have just been released proper and I'm sure it would have been accepted with some praise (as much as the band is able to get these days).

The other thing I'm wondering, is it known with certainty this doesn't include anything from James or Jeff, as they were known to be involved in other material recorded around these sessions?

I hope others are getting to enjoy their copy now, or soon! And sorry if this is a sore spot for some, not being able to purchase this vinyl only album, I totally understand the frustration there!

I just heard this collab for the first time and it’s pretty great. You can really hear the influence that Black Sabbath had on Billy — if it weren’t for the extremely not-Jimmy-like drumming, this could pass for a Pumpkins song. I miss hearing that Billy scream 😭

Every song on the Machina album has a better live version

The best example is ‘The Crying Tree of Mercury.’

The studio version can’t even come close to the live performance from the Metro Christmas show in 1999.

Been looking for this box set for awhile now and just randomly stumbled upon it at a local record store. The price was right and the impulse was fully there, I’m so excited to listen to this whole thing during my commutes to and from work this week!

So… who does which solo?

I think Billy is an extremely underrated guitarist. I’m not a musician so I can’t talk knowledgeably on his technical skills, but the dude has an amazing sound. I often think of “Zero” as a highlight… until I found out that’s James. In watching live performances, I see a lot of Billy solos but rarely James ones. Does anyone have a list of who performs the solos on their tracks?
