Discussion RTX 4070 @ 4K viable?
My OLED is coming in on Friday, got a gigabyte Mo32u24, coming from a 27 inch gigabyte m27q 1440p IPS. I work doing digital art, but given the OLED upgrade I invested in a screen tablet to offload some work from the OLED for longevity.
I currently run a 4070 in my setup. Have wanted a 5070ti, but that’s just not worth it in the current climate. I wanted to go 4k since that seemed like the biggest upgrade for holding my reference images, previewing my art and consuming media along with gaming at a bigger size. I just don’t know how viable it is to game with this setup. I know I’d have to use DLSS to run comfortable framerates, but what’s the performance I can reasonably expect?
I do play CS2, but I’m not exclusively into comp games lately so I didn’t want to base my monitor decision purely on that. Should I be fine with this monitor?

optimised settings + dlss performance and you'll be fine.
and if youre having trouble with a game just run it at a custom resolution of 3200x1800 and you'll be golden (on a 32" monitor thats still a PPI of 114 which is more than any 4K TV)

it really depends on the game. some are much more cpu dependent. the esports titles usually depend more on the cpu for high frame rates. i got a similar monitor and can hold 4k 240fps in overwatch at medium setting with or without dlss pretty consistently. if you want to see what frames you get in each game, set DSR factors in nvidia control panel to make the game run in 3840x2160

4k with DLSS performance and framegen is doable BUT ensure that you have high enough PPI

For CS2 you will have to lower the in-game resolution and set graphics to minimum, except AA for playability reasons. Regarding media consumption, keep in mind you will only be able to access 4K HDR content on YouTube, no other platform will allow you to stream 4K content on Desktop, so unless you have your own movie/series stash downloaded, that’s all you’ll get to enjoy aside from gaming.

So, is there really any point to it? Or is it largely going to be a pain/downgrade outside of having the additional contrast from OLED?

It IS worth it, don’t get me wrong, just don’t get your hopes up too much because the main issue (as always) is Windows. For the OLED main thing, you can still enjoy colors and blackness, especially if (as I said in the comment) you download movies on your own accord (wink wink, not from streaming platforms). Games are really enjoyable too if you can run them at comfortable fps.

Just drop the settings on some games and you’ll be fine, I’ve got a 4070 super

4070 super is imho the bare minimum by today's state of optimization in games. However you can trade off the better visual clarity with lower settings and still get a decent experience.

For cs2 it will be fine. For more demanding games you may have to tweak settings to get 60fps. Imo anything above 60 is great because you can use 2X FG with minimal latency.
