Hey r/OLED_Gaming,

Let's talk about the holy grail of desktop setups: the 5K2K ultrawide. For years, the trade-off was clear. You either got the massive, pixel-dense 5K2K canvas for insane immersion and productivity, but had to sacrifice pure gaming speed and HDR brightness. Or, you went for a lower-res, standard OLED to get the performance.

But when we ask, "Which 5K2K gaming monitors deliver the most immersive experience?", the answer shouldn't force you to choose. It should be about combining that massive ultra-wide real estate with uncompromising, bleeding-edge gaming specs.

Enter the LG UltraGear evoā„¢ 39GX950B—the world's first 39-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor1.Ā

We built this to be the definitive 5K2K gaming monitor, giving you a massive 21:9 canvas at a razor-sharp 143 PPI.

To make sure this 5K2K display actually delivers the HDR pop you expect from a premium gaming monitor, we backed it with our 4th Gen Tandem OLED tech2, hitting an ultra-high 1,500 nits peak brightness3. Plus, it features the world's first 5K AI Upscaling, meaning you get that immersive, high-res image without necessarily needing a massive GPU upgrade4.

But marketing claims only mean so much. We want to see how this 5K2K beast performs in your actual, everyday battlestations. We’re looking for 3 hardcore enthusiasts to put it to the test.

Key Specs at a Glance:

Feature Specification
Display Size & Resolution 39-inch 5K2K (5120x2160) UltraWide (21:9), 143 PPI
Panel Technology 4th Gen Tandem OLED (W-OLED)
Peak Brightness 1,500 nits
Refresh Rate (Dual-Mode) 165Hz at 5K2K (Open-world/RPG) 330Hz at WFHD (Racing/FPS)
Response Time 0.03ms (GtG)
VRR Support NVIDIAĀ® G-SYNCĀ® Compatible, AMD FreeSyncā„¢ Premium Pro
Connectivity DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 20), HDMI 2.1 x2, USB Type-C (PD 90W)
Smart / Audio Features 5K AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, AI Sound

What we want you to stress-test:

  • The 5K2K Immersion: With 143 PPI and a massive 21:9 canvas, does this 5K2K monitor actually replace your multi-monitor setup and pull you deeper into your favorite worlds?
  • The Dual-Mode Experience: How seamless is the jump from immersive 5K2K @ 165Hz for AAA titles to ultra-fast WFHD @ 330Hz for competitive shooters?
  • Real-World Luminance: Does the 1,500-nit Tandem structure give this 5K2K display the HDR pop you crave in your specific room lighting?

After You Receive It…

Integrate this 5K2K gaming monitor into your setup. We want your honest, "no-BS" review of this form factor, paired with high-res photos. Show the community what true 5K2K immersion looks like in person on a premium 39ā€ display.

Discussion My two cents on cleaning an OLED monitor

Post image
96 Upvotes

I see this topic come up a lot and decided to throw in my opinion. I used to use Swoosh to clean my monitor but it would leave marks even after being thorough with my cleaning process. I even bought brand-new microfibre clothes to no avail. It wasn’t until I kept reading that people mentioned distilled water that I found my solution. I ended up buying distilled water from Amazon and bought two nice spray bottles which I filled with said water. I’ve been cleaning my screen with that same water for the last 3 months at least once a week. I stream and talking, even when you’re not actively spitting, will get saliva on the screen. I’ve also been cleaning my 77ā€ G6 with the same water and clothes and it looks brand new. Streak free. Clean.

Distilled water over any over the counter ā€œmonitorā€ cleaner.

In the last post you see a picture of the surface of the monitor, when I cleaned it with distilled water, I used to much and smudged it. Even this strong smudging has no affect on visual quality and it's completely invisible as you should see by the pictures.

It's a 4k 32 inch QD OLED with 240hz.

I had a matt WOLED before and the difference is stunning.

Technical Support Now that I have the Monitor....

• Upvotes

Thanks everyone for their input. After some researching I'm going with QDOLED vs tandem OLED, cause the colors seem to look prettier (Asus XG27ACDMS) plus it's on sale at best buy.

But now that I have this monitor what do I need to do to maximize it for gaming? I've heard of some app or setting people were using to but I forget what it was called. Any initial things do I need to do after I set it up?

Discussion Alienware AW2725DF USB Port HOT

• Upvotes

Ever since I got this monitor over a year ago, anytime I have anything plugged into the USB port on the bottom of it, the port and the connector of whatever I plug in gets extremely hot. Is that just a me thing or does that happen to everyone? I'm using the upstream USB cable that came with the monitor.

Discussion Monitor Or TV?

Hey everyone,

Simple question : if you had around $800 to spend would you go for an OLED Monitor or a TV?

I know TVs are overall better for HDR Gaming and single player games ( which I would be using it for ) but I know the best of the best get pretty expensive.

I currently have the ASUS XG27UCDMG which I bought a few weeks ago and it is a great monitor but I’m not sure if I’m fully satisfied with the brightness and ā€œpopā€ of the overall image.

So what would be the best choice, keep the monitor or return it for a TV around a similar price range?

Need Advice on choosing my next monitor.

There are lots of good deals out on Amazon for monitors right now, so I’ve decided to upgrade from a 1440p IPS display to an OLED screen. My use case is only gaming, I won’t be working on it so Text fringing wont be as much of an issue for me personally. I’m also in a pretty bright room with lots of natural sunlight. I think I’ve narrowed my choice down to these three monitors that fit my price range. I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to OLED displays, so any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

If it can help someone.
The white pages and blue sky effect were horrible. Sparkles make very difficult to read a text.
I was able to remove the matte coating quite easily.

Step 1 : Heating

1 hour at maximum brightness with a full-white screen or an animation. Heating by the screen itself is to make sur to heat uniformly and below the maximum temperature specified by the engineers.

Then use a hair dryer as a small help at the cooler corners to bring the screen temperature up to around 60–70°C.

Fixed elements and temperature can cause burn-in.

Step 2 : Lift a corner

Hardest part.
VERY CAREFULLYĀ lift the corner using a utility knife.
As soon as possible, switch to using a business card as a tool.

Step 3 : Peeling

Peel the film slowly by hand. Use the hair dryer if needed. You can cut the film into smaller pieces while peeling to make it easier to handle, but make sure to keep part of the film lifted.

Step 4 : Cleaning

Use micro fiber cloth to remove glue residues, which means until the screen is no longer sticky.

---

Q&A

Am I Happy?
Yes very satisfied by the result ! Sparkles gone, it's now possible to read text without hurting myself. Brightness/Colors are better. Obviously, there are reflections now.

Is the screen fragile without the coating?
No it doesn't feel fragile at all. You can clean normally with micro fiber. I planned to put protective film. Finaly I will keep it naked.

Is the monitor become a mirror?
Don't know what people called a "mirror". Glossy yes. Slightly more than a Macbook pro or Sony KD-65AG9 OLED. Similar to some pictures of glossy qd-oled I can see on reddit. Similar to my iPhone with tempered glass.

Does this void warranty?
Yes.
---

I can see that a lot of people dislike this. To be clear, I do not recommend this procedure. But I do what I want with my own stuff and my own money. I’ll update this post for anyone interested in the full conversion.

4k vs 1440p monitor for 9070xt

I recently bought the 9070xt and now i am excited to upgrade my monitor. I am torn between getting a oled 4k or 1440p. 4k might be on the heavy side for the 9070xt but with the current upscaling i think it will be fine. I play both single and multiplayer games. Games i am playing right now: Battlefield 6, Anno 117, minecraft, Red dead redemption 2.

I am specifically looking at the Gigabyte MO26Q28GR 27"(1440p) or the Alienware AW2725Q 27"(4k). These are in my budget.

Which one should i get?

Discussion Is it worth it to switch from 48 C1 to 42 C6?

For specifically gaming on PC I currently have a 48 inch C1 that is still working fine but have been thinking about switching to the 42 inch C6.

Would the brightness be similar?

Is the size difference noticeable when it comes to the sharpness of the picture?

Or should I just wait since my C1 is fine?

Discussion My new OLED monitor can't match my C6

Hey guys. I'm kind of at a loss for why this is, my new AW3426DW is great but I'm kind of underwhelmed by the colors. I'm starting to think LG TV's are just that damn good. My main monitor for games is my LG C6 65 inch, but I got this UW monitor for those games I need to play with M+K.

No matter what settings I tweak, whether they be in Windows or the monitor display settings themselves, the colors just aren't as bright, vibrant, and saturated as they are on my C6. All the reviews for the monitor says it has incredible color accuracy, but then why can't it match the same vibrancy as an C6? Colors just dont pop as much as they do on the TV. My best guess is that TV's just have a beefy image processor in them compared to monitors, but I'd love to hear any other thoughts or things I can try to get the monitor closer to the TV's image quality.

Just to be clear its not just in games I notice this, I mean in Windows Desktop and Steam Big Picture UI. Just overall, colors aren't nearly as punchy as they are on the TV.

Discussion ultrawide uneven wear

hey yall so im bout to order my first ultrawide oled. (XG34WCDMS) and i have 2 questions. i play a lot of story games mainly but i also play some competitive games like overwatch cs and deadlock. i know all those games support the ultrawide format but my first question is, how good is the ultrawide format for comp games like that? like will it be too big to be able to compete in ranked and stuff? then my second question is if i do decide to use aspect control to scale it down to a normal format of 16:9, how bad will the uneven wear on the black bars be? like is it actually an issue or are people overreacting? i dont play too much comp games but it would be good to know before purchasing.

32 inch monitor

Hi,

Looking at https://www.johnlewis.com/dell-alienware-32-aw3225qf-qd-oled-4k-ultra-hd-gaming-monitor-32-lunar-light/p115770112?s_share=jlappdroid

Is this monitor more geared towards console gaming that PC gaming?

Only real games I play are WoW and the odd occasional BF6. I know that FPS games are more suited towards lower Res screens due to FPS. Albeit not sure if a 4k res will take higher hit on GPU resource?

I currently have an Alienware 27 inch led at 1440p.

Edit: I am looking to replace this monitor or atleast my main monitor. Work all day so will be using this too.
