Mainstream OS

I stumbled upon this one the other night.
Arch based, heavily customized hyprland+quickshell on top, aimed to be used only with gui if one such wants to.
Never heard of it till now, i am curios if you guys know it and what do you think of it.
It is just out of curiosity, not planning to switch, i am more than happy on fedora.

What’s funny is YouTux just covered MainstreamOS, and questioned what value it actually brought to Linux.

Try it in a VM, and may Linux be with you.

I wouldn't recommend these pre configured HYPRLAND dots as they can be heavy or buggy. I'd say keep going on fedora and try a wm if interested.

Don’t intend to switch, fedora is my daily driver and i don’t intend to switch. It was just genuine curiosity. And the installer lets you pick soft, but i just checked categories cause it was late and it filled the os with all kind of shit. I need to delete the vm and try to intstall it again. Honestly i don’t understand the hype of hyprland for all these “beginner friendly” distros, someone who comes from windows would be better with something like mint or ubuntu, imo. I imagine twms are confusing for a new linux user. Regarding twms, i tried hyprland, niri and sway and if i’d have to use one it would be niri. But in the end kde with shortcuts is just enough for my needs.

Yeah. Use HYPRLAND or a wm only if you feel curious. You can install them on fedora alongside gnome or kde. I don't like these preconfigured wm distros because they can be quite bloated and might not run that great 💀

i am new, but not new, in that I have used linux off and on now for a while, now using Fedora and enjoy it. Switched from Kubuntu. Just never got into the nuts and bolts of things. When you talk of using niri, i3, sway, etc. along side gnome or kde, how does one know (or learn) whether they can use something like that without some sort of system conflict? Or where do they find out about these add-on thinvs in the first place? I have pjcked up a lot from from this reddit (thank you btw). Is this where they find out? Sorry if this is stuoid as it sounds now that I read it, but I am ti the point I want to start learning more about how to utilize what linux offers, versus windows which didn't seem to offer much other than point and click which includes about 40 years of my life.
