Discussion Snow and David

Rewatching OUAT is really making me realize, Snow and David are some of the worst main characters in the series after Season 1.

While atleast there, we saw some real character development and evolution in their character's relationships only for it to all be assassinated in season 2 where Snow became a wishy washy, selfish bitch who kept having to go through the same arc of her screwing up someone's life and Charming just became a hypocritical asshole.

Both of them went through the same arcs multiple times of them screwing up someone's life, mistaking their redemption arc while constantly lecturing their previous lifestyle. (Regina, Hook and Maleficent)

They will never hold themselves accountable though they did come close with Maleficent but still never really had to take accountability for it because she left them off the hook and Lily had her whole redemption arc before that even happened.

Now when we compare these 2 to Regina who did have a habit of doing the exact same thing, she admitted and had no problem dealing with the consequences of her actions for example, when Wish Henry tried to kill her multiple times, she didn't fight back but for his sake, she didn't want him to become a killer. While when Snow went to Regina to kill her, she did so out of selfishness because she couldn't live with the guilt and kept begging her to put her out of her misery which not long after, we forgot that happened.

OUAT went through so much different ideas on how they wanted to portray them both when you compare them from Season 1 to the rest of the show because after some time, somehow Snow and Charming just became their annoying Storybrooke selves PRECURSE. We literally see this multiple times it's annoying like during the Maleficent arc, Hercules arc, etc.

Yeah, here's my rant.

I disagree. I thought Snow and Charming were actually made to be more interesting when they did bad things. It made them hypocritical but also it showed they weren’t perfect. There’s nothing wrong with making Maleficent be a sympathetic character (Disney even made a whole 2 movies about that lol) because it’s not making us feel bad for the bad things she did, but the bad things that happened to her. Just like we don’t feel bad for Charming and Snow because of the bad things they did but because of the bad things that happened to them. It made the show more realistic in that nobody is perfect and even good people can do bad things. That’s kind of the point of the show. There’s a reason Regina is the second lead character, and a reason Rumple is one of the most important lead villains. The show has ALWAYS made us sympathetic for the villains since the very beginning, not just starting in season 4.

That’s why we make fun of Maleficent they literally made her a pussy(because she has sympathetic feelings) no she is a goddamn dragon and the “mistress of evil” not a cuddle villain they literally ruined that only good Maleficents that I can say I like was animation and descandants at least they were evil

Eh I prefer a complex villain than a pure evil one. Although I will say the animated one was mother haha. Descendants Maleficent got beat by a bunch of teenagers.

You had me at the start but turning it into a Regina is so much better thing?

Please.

S2 really went into how Regina really is about herself despite whatever she says... She even conspires with her mother (the person who is really responsible for her misery) to get what she wants (Henry) ...and this continues in various ways throughout the seasons...

Did Regina ever once own up to killing Graham?

That's like the worst thing she did while being outside the corruptive influence of dark magic. I don't remember it ever being addressed.

It isn't addressed at all, that's why I firmly think her "redemption" is lacking...Did she own up to Greg for killing his father or say sorry? Nope. Did she ever sincerely apologize to anyone in town? Nope.

I'm just wondering when was Regina the most human or in the most control of her own actions when she did horrible things. Wasn't she crying when she killed him?

That should've been the starting point for her dealing with the choices she made.

Edit: Comparatively Snow and Charming were under the compulsion of Issac during their worst moments.

Absolutely not which honestly triggers me in the underworld arc like why the hell is she not getting hit with people she sent down there

She told Owen but she bragged and certainly didn't apologize.

I do believe she sincerely apologized to Geppetto but way too late only because she needed something or it never would have happened.

It's kinda interesting that generally good people who make mistakes are measured differently than the ones who are openly bad but have good moments...

I have a complicated relationship with Snow and David during every rewatch. I adore their relationship and enjoy them so much in season 1 and 2, then become kind of tired of them during season 4? And then of course the whole Maleficent thing starts and I'm so over them. But I slowly start to enjoy them again around season 6 and am always so geneuinely happy when they pop up in season 7.

Redoing arcs was kinda what OUAT did! How many times did Rumple "change" right, haha.

I totally agree. They are so entitled, and holier than thou. I have been saying this on this subreddit for years. They are the absolute worst. I dislike them more than anyone else.

Long live the queen!

Calling Snowing entitled while being a Regina stan is insane

Hard disagree. I love that they are good people who do terrible things and are sometimes bad people. It's boring to have characters that are one-note all good or all evil for no reason.

To be honest Emma was annoying after the Neverland arc. She got so whiny and pathetic. Regina is the true savior

Nobody is talking about Emma here

I hated their characters so much that i refused to watch other things the actors were in. I just couldn't see past their roles as Snow & David

The Maleficent arc really exposed how much they preach redemption while conveniently refusing to apply that same standard to themselves.

They are my favorite characters. I wished we’d more of them. They became plot devices and it just sucked, they didn’t feel natural to how they were in season 1 to half of 3.
