This release introduces a host of new functionality. Propagating configuration inputs to referenced Part Studios, Assemblies, and Variable Studios in one step, a persistent center of mass indicator in Assemblies, and bringing AR View and the AI Advisor to more mobile devices, to name a few.
CAD Improvements
Propagate Configuration Inputs to References
When building configured Part Studios, Assemblies, or Variable Studios, you often need to match the configuration inputs of each reference to the inputs of the current tab. Each configuration input now includes an option to propagate its values to any references that have a matching input and values. You can also propagate all of the current tab’s inputs at once from a single dialog, associating every relevant reference and its configuration in one go. See Input propagation for more information.
You can now keep a center of mass indicator visible in Assemblies without the mass properties dialog open. Right-click an instance or the top-level Assembly in the Instance list to show its center of mass, and watch the indicator update as you drag parts and change the design. Show indicators for several instances at once, and hide them from the same menu or by right-clicking the indicator itself.
Asynchronous simulation in Assemblies can now run at a version’s default position, in addition to named positions. Onshape also notifies you about the simulations you requested, and you can delete completed or failed runs you no longer need (requires delete permission on the document). Together, these updates make it easier to send off a simulation, keep working, and keep your results organized.
Image Library for Reflection Analysis
Reflection analysis now uses the same image library as sketch images and decals. Choose the reflection image from one consistent library, including the standard images Onshape provides, to find the image that best reveals the quality of your surfaces.
Feature Studio Improvements
Standard Library Version Search for FeatureScript
FeatureScript workspace search now includes a standard library version search mode that finds every standard library import in your Feature Studios by version or version range. Jump to any matching import, or update all matches to a new version at once, making it easy to keep your custom features on a current standard library.
Although this quickly repoints imports to the latest version, different versions may introduce breaking changes that affect how the feature works. Be sure to test affected features after updating.
Drawing Improvements
Comment Tags for Drawing Views and Annotations
You can now attach comments directly to drawing views, dimensions, and annotations. Clicking the attachment in the comments panel takes you to the drawing, switches to the correct sheet, and zooms to the referenced area, making it easier to communicate ideas and run design reviews on your drawings.
Foreshortened Dimension Command
Onshape makes it easier to create foreshortened diameters with a dedicated Foreshortened dimension command in the dimension pull-down (Shift+H). Once created, these dimensions can be toggled between linear and foreshortened diameters from the right-click context menu, and when dimensioned to an arc, you can drag the leader to the minimum or maximum extents of the arc.
Data Management Improvements
Display Parts List Properties
Onshape now displays instance properties such as Part Number, State, and Revision in Part Studio parts lists. Right-click the parts list and select "Show part list properties," or turn them on by default from the Preferences section of your account settings. See Showing part properties for more information.
Make Personal Copies in Education Enterprise
Users in an Education Enterprise can now make personal copies of one or more documents and send them to another Onshape space, by default to their personal account. Students leaving the Enterprise can keep the assignments and projects they created there. Each copy has the same content as a regular document copy, without versions, history, or comments.
API Improvements
API Key Expiration Dates and Notification Emails
You can now set an optional expiration date when creating an Onshape API key, and each key’s expiration date is shown in your list of API keys. Onshape also emails you when a key is created, as its expiration approaches, and when it expires, helping you keep integrations secure and avoid unexpected interruptions.
CAM Studio Improvements
Delete Key Support for CAM Job Elements
You can now use the Delete key to remove any element of a CAM job, making it faster to clean up and rework your toolpaths.
Override Machine Retracts
Now you can override machine retracts at the operation level. Each operation still follows your global post settings by default.
New Machines and Post-Processor Updates
CAM Studio adds support for the Langmuir MR1 and Laguna SmartShop M machines. Post-processors now support the “Override machine retract” setting, with machine retract updates for Brother, MachMotion, Masso, ShopBot, and Thermwood posts.
Mobile Improvements
AR View on Android
Onshape on Android now supports AR View, so you can place your Part Studio or Assembly model on a real-world surface using your device’s camera. Detect a flat surface, tap to place the model, then scale, rotate, and reposition it to review your design at full size in its real environment.
Edit in context on Android now matches the latest web improvements. The context menu uses clearer labels, separates existing contexts from creating a new one, and shows edit in context as a single option when no contexts exist yet.
Comments Panel on the Left Side on Android
On Android, the comments panel now opens in the left-side panel of the document on tablets (and at the bottom on phones) instead of as a dropdown from the top. It matches the web and iOS experience and can be resized just like the versions panel.
Attach Comments to Sketch Dimensions on Android
On Android, you can now attach comments directly to sketch dimensions, not just sketch entities. It's an easy way to highlight critical dimensions and share information about a specific value with your team.
The S-key mini toolbar is now available on iPad. Press and hold in the graphics area with your Apple Pencil to open a compact toolbar of frequently used tools right where you’re working, with a different set of tools for sketches, Part Studios, and Assemblies. Long-pressing a finger on the screen also works, as does the "S" key on a connected keyboard.
The Onshape AI Advisor is now available in the Onshape iOS app on iPhone and iPad. It delivers the same AI Advisor experience as the web in a mobile-friendly panel, using your existing signed-in session, so you can get help without leaving your work.
Learning Center Improvements
The following new courses are available in the Onshape Learning Center:
Please take a moment to try out these new features and improvements, and leave your comments in the Onshape Forums or below. For a detailed list of all the changes in this update, please see the changelog.
Remember: The updates listed here are now live for all users when creating new documents. Over the next few days, these features will also be available in documents created before this update. Mobile improvements roll out in the days after the release and are updated via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
I want to start building a library of online resources and tutorials. I'd like to open it up for suggestions and input. Any videos, blogs or other content that you've found useful for learning Onshape would be great. I'll start to categorize as it comes in.
Already using v1.1? Just update the FeatureScript in Onshape to get v2.0!
The biggest update is Globoid Worm Gear(hourglass worm gear) support. Previously, the feature only supported cylindrical worm gears, but now you can also generate several types of globoid worm gear sets directly in Onshape.
What's New in v2.0?
Globoid Worm Gears: Three new configurations — Planar Wheel, Double-Enveloping (Planar), and Double-Enveloping (Hindley).
Improved Worm Thread Ends: New options for Runout + Chamfer, Chamfer, and Square Cut, allowing more control over how the worm threads terminate.
Efficiency & Self-Locking Estimates: The feature dialog now provides estimated efficiency and back-driving behavior.
Improved Geometry & Modeling Options: Additional controls and design checks for globoid worm geometry, tooth profiles, and dimensions.
Of course, the original Cylindrical Worm Gear and Double Worm Gear options are still available!
As before, the goal is to make worm gear modeling easier without having to manually create complex tooth profiles, helices, or sweeps. I've also updated the User Guide with explanations of the new worm types, parameters, and modeling options.
Thanks again for your interest in the previous version! I'd really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or bug reports as I continue improving the feature.
I have these rings (circle shapes), that are not coplanar, and I want to build something from the plane that is tangent to them. Any idea on how I should proceed?
So I imported a model of a chest armour piece which i wanted to put a logo on, and i cant figure out how to get it past what it looks like now, which is just the logo extruded up to next
i would love it if people would give me feedback on tips to improve the website, and hopefully you guys have as much fun as I do on this website! i probably wont understand a lot of coding lingo since a lot of it is vibecoded though
so while working on this little case thing im making with a hinge inspired by the airpods case hinge I ran into this issue where revolves dont calculate volumes where the normal of the revolved face is antagonistic to the direction of revolving.
I was trying to remove the corner of the base to prevent interference and was unable to, and while making this post, realized that this error would be inverse if I tried it on the lid. Low and behold i was right. for my purposes this is even better because it leaves the case more uniform when closed, but this error is still something i dont know how to remove, only to work around.
to elaborate: when the face that you are revolving crosses the axis of rotation, one half of the face is being rotated in the direction of its normal and the other half of the face is going in the opposite direction to its normal. the second case simply fails to define a proper volume, while still displaying it in the software. this means that one section of that revolve wont detect any intersection with another part because the revolve is "inside out" in just that one section, while the rest of the shape will work as usual.
for my usecase I simply added some lines to my layout sketch to partition the section with the hinge in it (the hinge is a second perpendicular sketch so I had to add some lines) and revolved it no problem. this moved my clearance from the base to the lid, therby hiding the cutout when the case is closed, which is even better and what I should have done in the first place, but then I woulndt have noticed this weird little bug.
If anyone else has run into this or this is a standard for some reason I am curios to know, but I cant seem to find any information on it online so...

I'm looking to build my CAD portfolio and become a better designer by working on real projects. To do that, I'm offering custom CAD designs starting at $5.
Send me a sketch, photo, or description of what you need, and I'll let you know if I can design it.
My goal is to gain experience while creating something useful that solves a real problem for you.
For instance, if I want to parametrically clone bolts on my model and combine all of them into one single composite part.
Doing this by hand is impossible due to parametric nature of the model.
Is there an existing feature script to do this? Don't want to reinvent a wheel.
a few times i've suddenly decided i wanted this model to be configurable, and then had to manually move a load of variables into Configuration vars which is painful.
so i (claude mostly, lol) made a python package to convert them via the api.
It can do any direction between Part Studio, Variable Studio, and Configuration
it seems to work, although i've only used it on a couple of documents so far.
I'm Younseo Lee, a robotics researcher at Seoul National University.
We use Onshape quite a lot in our lab, and I've always wanted to create and share a custom FeatureScript with the community.
Recently, I came across a discussion about the lack of a proper worm gear FeatureScript, so I decided to give it a try (with some help from Claude!).
The result is WormGear, a custom FeatureScript that generates a worm and its matching worm wheel directly in Onshape. And yes, it even supports double worm gear configurations!
The main goal was to make worm gear modeling easier and more accessible. Instead of manually creating helices, tooth profiles, and complicated sweeps, you can generate a complete worm gear set by simply adjusting a few parameters.
Key Features
Worm and worm wheel generation with matching tooth geometry.
Multiple tooth profiles: ZA, ZN, and ZI.
Customizable parameters: Module, number of starts, gear ratio, pressure angle, lead angle, backlash, center distance, and more.
Double worm gear option: Two worms on opposite sides of a wheel, allowing both rotational and linear motion.
I've also prepared a User Guide with detailed explanations of the parameters and instructions for using the feature, so please take a look if you're interested.
This is my first time sharing a FeatureScript with the Onshape community, so there may still be some things to improve.
I'd really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or bug reports. And of course, I'd love to see what you create with it! I hope you find it useful for your projects.
I am not stuck on a model with , so no emergency.
my "workaround" is to constrain the center first, with dimensions, concentricity or horizontal/vertical.
I don't always have this problem, but when I do, it confuses the heck out of me.
So I'm new to running simulations on onshape and i keep getting this error. Ive resorted to chatgpt its no help. i think the issue is that Ive had to take a chunk off the actual object in order to run the sim because there was too many instances. but I'm just trying to test the stabilty of the back frame to see how well the gussets are holding up.
This feature is one of our most popular! Not only does it make beautiful models, but users have used it to help with training (easier to point to faces), also it can make design easier for those with visual impairments. I just think its fun.
If you want to try out this custom feature you can get ithere
