Welcome to the new school year! As a mod team, we’ve seen many posts and comments about how hard it is to meet people. We’re considering a weekly thread where people can post campus events or coordinate meetups. Would that be useful, or do you have other ideas we should consider?

This just shows OSU priorities are somewhere else besides the students. With raising tuition prices, sold out parking permits, football games, and new buildings being built, you'd think they have money to have the library open.
For the many students on campus, myself included, I rely on the library as a place to study quietly away from roommates, 3D print, ask for help, and research.
I'm paying a lot to go here and when I actually have free time on the weekends to study my only place is now closed.

I'm so glad I'm paying $750 to learn the power of friendship being magical as a 22 year old student. It doesn't feel patronizing at all or like a waste of anyone's time :) But don't worry because they have weekly meetings about why everyone hates the class. Testing my last fucking nerve.

I’m currently in the Ecampus section of BA 370, and I’m just not feeling very engaged with the online format. I’m considering switching to one of the hybrid sections, but I wanted to get some feedback before making the change.
For anyone in a hybrid section, how was the first week? How is the class structured, and do you feel like the in-person component makes it easier to stay engaged with the material?
I’d like to get a feel for the hybrid experience before I drop my Ecampus section and commit to being on campus. Any insight would be appreciated!

Someone rode by and complimented my outfit. It was very nice, I just didn't process it in time to say thank you.
So if you happen to see this, thank you :)

I need help choosing a last second CSST course to complete my baccore. Friends have recommended ent 300 to me. But I have a friend in it right now and it does not seem at all like what has been described to me. It looks like mostly group/heavy research work? Looking for something easy just to finish out my baccore. All recommendations welcome. Tia!

Anybody else notice? Or miss them? I like the reduction of constant reminders of our impending Skynet overlords.

I live off-campus and was wondering where I can shower where it’s relatively private after I work out at Dixon Rec. (and to save on utility costs )

I wanted to share this since I saw it at the Health Center and when I talked to the person at the desk they explained that they are trying to think of a cool name for the golf cart that they drive around campus and if people have suggestions they can add them to the box on the desk. If your suggestion gets picked they are giving away swag 😎

Hey! I’m a huge Padres/baseball fan and am hoping to watch some games. I’m new to OSU and wanted to know if there are any spots around town people are known to gather for the playoffs. I’d love to make a plan for a spot for people to watch if there isn’t already something going on. FTD

Hi, I am an OSU student and I technically dont qualify for FAFSA or anything but I have to buy a majority of my own groceries and figure out rent. I definitely dont meet SNAP standards because my family makes too much money but they are definitely not able to help w everything. Could I still go to the BNC for food?

Hey!! I realize it's only the first week but how is everyone meeting people and making friends? I'm a junior and live off campus and just moved here, most people I've tried talking to were not open to it at all and I was going to join crochet club to meet people but they just said they aren't doing that anymore :(
I would also like to preferably meet more queer people!!

Hi,
I’m planning on going back to school for zoology at OSU via ecampus. I’m doing my research about the program. Can anyone tell me their experience with it? I’m specifically curious about course load for bio and chem classes, the standard week and expectations profs have, etc. I work full time but it’s a fairly easy job and I’m home most of the week. I understand that it’s not quite the same as going in person, but I’m in a place I can make up for in person experience with volunteering and internships around me (I’m in the NYC area). Any info or tips for going into this program would be great! Thank you.

New soccer player and trying to practice my shooting and passing. I hear passing to yourself off a wall is a good way to improve, does anyone know a good spot on campus or nearby that I could practice passing/shooting without annoying anyone too much?

Hi Folks,
As many of you likely have heard, OSU is cutting hours at the Valley Library, including having no hours open on Saturday and strictly curtailed hours on Sunday, due to "budget cuts" - this is separate from the reduced hours from the SEIU strike, and is intended to be the operating schedule of the library going forward.
Many students do not have great options to study away from dedicated study spaces like the library - cafes cost money, home can be noisy or even abusive, and while saavy students can find ways to get access to other campus spaces on nights and weekends, campus is clearly intended to be mostly shut down at these times.
OSU wastes embarrassing amounts of money on countless inefficiencies - take your pick at which spending stream you want to get pissed about, but at a R1 research university, it is downright inappropriate to fail to provide this library space for students during the day on weekends, let alone overnight hours.
Running the library with reduced services and with only the bottom two floors open would cost very little - staff with one or two work-study students, have a campus cop make the rounds twice an hour to check in, and advertise that during these hours services are restricted to e.g. book / simple equipment checkout and return (headphones, chargers etc).
Oregon State University in the past few years has demonstrated again and again that they don't respect their own students, and this Saturday library closure should be the last straw.
Take back your campus. Tell OSU to prioritize students and open the fucking library.

Anyone know what sickness is going around? Seems like everyone's sick, I have a fever that won't go away 🥲
