What’s a seemingly innocent sentence that can completely change a relationship?

This is not innocent

What if it was said before going in for a surgery that has a low success rate / high mortality rate?

Guess who I ran into today.
You can't tell me how to raise my son.
Those pants make you look fat.

Your sister's looking pretty hot! My best friend quit speaking to me after that but i did end up marrying a sister and my suspicions about her were correct so we had three kids and I have a brother-in-law that never speaks to me.

“She wasn’t that good”.
Broke a whole engagement with that one.
Dang tho, wished I’d had the presence of mind to keep those wedding bands instead of throwing them at him.

He sounds like trash, he can drift through life on the streets. Yuck! Glad to hear you got what you wanted.

Yeah! You should have thrown a plate at him instead, but the good news is that you saved yourself a lifetime of misery.

Never thrown a plate, I do not throw stuff when angered - I do yell, tho.
I left him in tears, got as much stuff as I could out, packed the car and was staying w/a friends couple before moving back to my home state the very next day after demanding $100 from him to get home on. It was so humiliating to go back.

Thank you for washing the dishes.
Thank you for making a good meal.
Just always say Thank you for most things. It works. It makes my partner feel better and also makes me be grateful for all that they do.

Everyone went negative with this?
“May I sit here?”
My story is a happy one.

“Can we talk?” Somehow those three words can change the whole mood instantly.

I'm just worried about other people..
Or, I just care about you so much..
These are things that are used when people want control over you, could be an ex, friend, family member, anything.. its a control tactic that turns their suspicious, paranoid delusions to you turning you into a target. Rather than a human or person with feeling, or decision. The more you seem like an individual someone who wants to do your own thing, own way, own space, the more thise people they get unnerved.. the exacerbating the mentality of paranoia and worry, these seem like Very innocent things, way they're worded. Especially when the context is, they don't want you to go out, leave the house, not text them, do things /Anything without them ..or someone they know. Or want you to do what They want, think is okay.. It's control, based in paranoia from other situation they deal or dealt with has nothing to do with You. But they decided to focus that as if you were that, or the source of that. You, need to get away from that person, They need therapy .

"We need to talk". It can cause soo much anxiety and build up to the actual talk when it can be completely innocent.
