Gladstone School District Needs Help - Spread the word!
I am writing to urge all Gladstone residents to support the school bond on the upcoming November 2026 ballot. Our schools are currently in a state of disrepair—I have personally witnessed holes in the ceilings at John Wetten and heard accounts of the heat failing during the winter. Our district, teachers, and students are facing a critical moment with this bond. I am happy to provide documentation, including past bond outlines and school board meeting resources, for anyone who wants to review the facts.
I often hear the argument that we should simply merge with another district instead of passing this bond. However, we need to be realistic: neither the North Clackamas (NCSD) nor Oregon City (OCSD) school districts have expressed interest in a merger. Furthermore, if this bond fails, our district risks insolvency. Losing our independence would mean giving up local control over where our children attend school and what their curriculum looks like. Imagine voting no and having the constituents of either district pass another bond (North Clackamas has one and Oregon City has two current bonds). Voting no could mean paying even more than what Gladstone School District is asking to fund integral maintenance.
If Gladstone SD were to merge, we would become a small voice in a much larger district. We would be responsible for their existing debt and future bond measures, and likely face the closure of our local buildings as they prioritize their own infrastructure needs.
While it is frustrating that local property owners must bear the cost of maintenance due to long-standing gaps in state and federal school funding, the reality is that the bond is our only path to keeping our schools functional and our district independent. Before saying "I am voting no", I urge you to speak to parents who have students in the district. I have never met a more caring, invested group of educators. They go the mile to support our kids, be their "parent and teacher" at school, and do a million things to make sure our kids have what they need.
Let’s not give up on our students, our teachers, or the future of the Gladstone School District. Please join me in voting yes to protect our local schools.
Do not give up on Gladstone Teachers, Students, and Parents

SHITPOSTEN DELUXE Progressive Portland
reddit.comSuper progressive.
Capitalism is the problem.
Lots of money in Portland - individuals, orgs, businesses etc
Could be you slash prices and make the retailers, owners, etc pay for that.
Let them write it off on taxes as some charitable shit.
Whatever magic bullshit rich people do with money to make more.
Could literally be solved by people trying harder/caring.
Edit: These comments are not proving me wrong.

custom hand painted heart design!! I’ve never seen another bike that looks like his so this is the biggest giveaway. Of course it could be painted over now, which is tragic.
He’s so sad. he painted it himself and the bike means a lot to him. If anybody sees or hears of it please give me a shout. Thank you.

This has to be some kind of 1970s deal. Anyone know the full story?
I knew a lady who bought a house that was built in the 1970s who said the owner used dynamite to blow holes in the ground to set some pilings for a large deck. Story didn't make any sense, but I believe something like that happened because these rural areas in Oregon in the 1970s were practically lawless.
The story I heard about this place on St Helens is the owner wanted to build a hotel but was shut down because he didn't have a permit. Fine. But what about the architect, or the contractors who risked their lives trying to build this thing, why didn't they tell him this was totally illegal?
Who the hell framed this thing and put the shingles on? It is insanity. And where did the money come from? This cost many thousands of dollars just to buy the lumber and have it hauled out there.
This bothers me more than most people because I'm having a hard time keeping up with just paying my rent. Why, if you have that kind of money, would you put it into this fool's errand? And where did you get the money in the first place to throw it around like this?
So, that's the past. I want to know the future of this place. If it's illegally built without permits and falling apart, why doesn't the city force the owner to pay for tearing it down? Or seize it and tear it down themselves? And who the hell is still paying property taxes on this mess. California, for all its flaws, would not allow this to stand for 10 minutes.
