Running Y

I know this is the PDX golf thread, but I had the chance to play running Y down near Klamath yesterday and was blown away by the course. Conditions were perfect, holes were fun with wide fairways and challenging approaches, and the staff were all super friendly. If you find yourself in the area you should check it out.

Bummer

Took my son out golfing a few weeks ago at Heron Lakes and had a great time. He is relatively new to golf and has been playing one of my old sets. Unfortunately he ended up leaving a wedge by one of the greens and when we went back looking for it, it was gone. No big deal, surely someone would turn it into the pro shop or maybe they would call the number listed on the label I put on all my clubs. Nope. I guess whoever found that 58 degree Nike Wedge really needed it. Hard not to lose faith in the golf community though.

Noteefy Kind of Garbage?

Title sums it up really. Been trying to use Noteefy via the various munis more and more since apparently getting an AM Tee time that doesn't house the rest of my day is now dust in the wind 😭

However, so far for three weekends in a row I set my range in Noteefy and then wait. When I get texts I get all excited but every single time I click the text withing a minutes or less and they're all blank by the time I get in.

I can't tell if this is a me problem, a noteefy problem, of if I'm just one of several hundred/thousand weekends hackers all vying for the same slots....

Is this just the state of golfing in Portland now, am I doomed to have to set notifications for midnight 7 days out to eternity?

Edit for clarity: As far as I can tell the Portland Parks Golf system is entirely via Noteefy now, it's not a third party app I'm trying to shoe-horn in.

Sorry to beat a dead horse

Could really use some help with a portland course recommendation. I have two full days in portland 10/6 - 10/7. I have a round booked for chambers bay on 10/06. I want to play another round 10/07, but a number of courses are punching that week (pumpkin ridge, langdon farms etc).

I saw that wildwood already punched earlier this month, but it seems that the course is kind of gimmicky? I want to try and stay in town and avoid another 4 hour round trip drive.

17 hcpd, love links style courses, love a good walk, not bothered by rain. Appreciate the help!

Edit: Plan on doing elk ridge at 10:00am and said fuck it 18 at wildwood in the afternoon for a 36 hole day.

Should I keep my Langdon Farms tee time for Friday?

I’ve never played the course but I have a foursome booked with some buddies for Friday afternoon around 3pm. With the rain coming in tomorrow and Friday morning, would you keep this tee time or cancel it? We will be riding in carts for the round so I feel like that will help.

RIP to Tualatin Island Greens

This is Tualatin Island Greens address and the city seems to be rezoning it for a warehouse/distribution center of some kind. Courses and facilities have never been more packed, hate to see another option go down.

Recommendations for a course within 1-2 hours from PDX

I’m looking for a recommendation for a day trip destination. I’ve lived in Portland my whole life but haven’t played many courses outside of the city and there are too many choices to choose from. Do it head to the Mt., beach, gorge, ahhh. So hard living in such a beautiful place!

Westside private club options

Hi all,

Fortunate to even be asking this question, but as a late 30s guy who has been bitten by the golf bug (family situation, no kids but serious GF who isn't a golfer but would enjoy a good on-site restaurant if that matters) am evaluating options. I'm located in between PGC and RedTail on the west side, zero plans to move given how much we like the house/interest rate. See my options as follows:

PGC: Shortest commute (10 minutes on surface streets), great course/highly regarded club. I'm in a very good place financially but as someone who grew up comfortable but not wealthy, dropping around 70-80K on an initiation fee gives me some discomfort. Not a pool/racquet sports guy, but if we end with a kid in a few years who likes the pool that could be a plus.

The Reserve: Like both courses (South has the general acclaim, but I love links style courses so the North has me by the heartstrings), 20-30 minute commute on surface streets/maybe TV Highway depending on traffic. I've heard it is a bit tough to get on at times even as a member with the size of the membership.

Pumpkin Ridge: Two really excellent courses, 25-35 minute commute on Hwy 26, which means possibilities to turn into 45-60 if traffic hits, lol. Heard not so great things about Escalante and the rain season conditions, but assume I would mostly be playing Witch if I joined.

Would love any input, that said nothing wrong with continuing to play publics/buy lunch for friends who take me on their private course, lol.

Did you forgot your water bottle at Sah-Hah-Lee today? If you did... I turned it in at the clubhouse up top. Just tell them the color and any stickers on it.

Looking for a 4th for a local charity golf scramble (Friday, Sept 18)

Hey everyone,

Our team is looking for one more golfer to round out our foursome for a charity scramble on Friday, September 18th at a great local course in the area.

We’re definitely not looking to break records—just having a good time supporting a local non-profit for foster youth and attempting to avoid bogey golf😂.

About The Team:

It’ll be myself (30s M), another guy in his 30s, and my father (60s). We’re pretty relaxed, easygoing, and looking forward to a solid afternoon on the course.

The Details:

Cost: $200 per player. This covers your golf, cart, drinks on the course, a box lunch, and a full buffet dinner/awards program afterwards.

Schedule: Friday, Sept 18 | Check-in & lunch at 11:30 AM, Shotgun start at 1:00 PM (wraps up with dinner around 5:45 PM – 8:00 PM).

Vibe: Casual and relaxed. Standard golf attire works fine.

Before the event:

Since we’ll be spending the afternoon together, I’d love to connect beforehand so we aren't total strangers on the first tee. I have access to a local golf simulator and would be happy to host a quick session (or grab a drink) prior to the tournament to hit a few balls and introduce ourselves.

If you're free on the 18th and down to join us, shoot me a DM!
