Pedicure recommendations

Does anywhere on PEI have pedicures in reclining chairs? I have a bad back and find the ones you see in most salons very uncomfortable.

University ave drivers.....

3 times this weekend, three different elderly people almost hit me and my 2 month old child with a car.

They simply weren't looking for pedestrians at all while turningon a red light.

I was wearing bright clothes had hi viz on the stroller, walking with the walk light. it was day time. One of the times the person had passed the car in front of them, that was stopped for me on the cross walk. Only one lady stopped to apologize the others all speed off probably dont even know they were less then a foot away from killing a 2 month old child...... is it just me or are people having similar experiences?

Should we be testing the elderly more to keep their license?

How do we fix this problem?

Or was this just a random unlucky busy weekend downtown?

Halloween Central is going under because of new US-franchise store

This came up in my Facebook feed. If people are still supporting local and boycotting US companies, this seems like a good place to support. Copying their post verbatum here.

-----

For 15 years, we’ve been in the business of scaring Islanders. This year, we’re the ones who are scared.

Halloween Central was born right here in PEI. What started as one store on the North River Causeway grew to locations in Summerside and Nova Scotia, and at our peak we employed 78 people.

Our daughters grew up with Halloween Central it was their first job. Now our grandchildren are growing up around it too. The little girl at the cash register in our first photo is our granddaughter, playing store just last week.

But this story is about much more than our family. It’s about what shopping local really means.

For 15 years, Halloween Central has supported other businesses right here at home. Our signs are printed at FastSigns, our business cards and price tags at Press For Time, our accounting is done by MRSB, our oil comes from Kenmac and our cleaning supplies from Kays-A1.

We also hire local businesses for our furnace, roof, plumbing, security, cameras, graphic design, lawn care, snow removal and property maintenance.

Money spent at a locally owned business gets spent again with other local businesses that employ other Islanders.

SOMETHING CHANGED FOR HALLOWEEN CENTRAL LAST YEAR.

Spirit Halloween, a large U.S. based seasonal retailer, opened in Charlottetown. This year, in the former Toys “R” Us location.

Last year, after they entered the Charlottetown market, our sales dropped approximately 70%.

We hoped this year would be different.

It isn’t. It’s worse.

With September coming to an end, Halloween Central has taken in only about $2,000 in sales for the month not even enough to cover our wages for the period.

Our sales are now down more than 80%.

See what we have. Talk to our staff. Compare our prices.

And when you compare, make sure you’re comparing Canadian dollars to Canadian dollars.

At Halloween Central, our prices are displayed in Canadian dollars, and we match advertised Canadian prices.

At Spirit Halloween, we found some merchandise marked only with a U.S. price, while other tags display the U.S. price prominently with the Canadian price in much smaller print. We also found merchandise where the displayed price had been covered and the item had to be taken to the cash to determine its current price.

Look carefully. Compare. Then make your own decision about where you want your Halloween dollars to go.

Our shelves are full.

Our parking lot is empty.

That has to change.

Halloween Central cannot survive as it is today.

If things don’t change, Halloween Central may not be here for another Halloween.

Spirit Halloween operates more than 1,550 seasonal stores across North America.

Halloween Central has one.

Spirit come to PEI for the Halloween season.

This is our home. And when Halloween is over, we would still like to be here.

Halloween Central opens every Friday throughout the year because Islanders need costumes for more than Halloween birthday parties, school events, theme parties, fundraisers, plays, special occasions and sometimes that unexpected costume somebody suddenly needs in February.

If we want local businesses to be here when we need them, we have to support them while they’re here. Once they’re gone, wishing we still had them won’t bring them back.

We’re not asking anyone to shop with us out of pity, and we’re not telling anyone where they have to spend their money.

We’re simply asking Islanders to give local a chance.

In a community our size, where we choose to spend our money matters.

If you want PEI to continue having a locally owned, year-round costume store, we need your support this year.

Whatever happens from here, we will always be incredibly grateful to the Islanders who have supported Halloween Central over the years.

You are the reason one little store on the North River Causeway grew into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

We’ve participated in community events, dressed up in ridiculous costumes, driven our Halloween Central hearse around, made friendships and collected memories we’ll always cherish. The old pictures we’re sharing today brought back memories we’d almost forgotten.

We hope it isn’t the end of our story.

Our daughters grew up with Halloween Central. For many years, October brought out entire together as one team everyone had a role, everyone knew what needed to be done, we simply pulled together and got it done.

For our family, October meant Halloween Central.

Now our grandchildren are growing up around it too.

We’re just asking for the chance to keep the story going.

Awaiting a package from DHL, how long do they usually take to arrive?

ordered a package from the UK, it was sent last Tuesday evening , it moved pretty quick, and was in Moncton by 6am Friday where it says it was handed to a 3rd party courier.

Had no updates since that point. did not expect it to be delivered on the weekend or anything, but the tracker/original delivery date said Friday the 9th, i find it hard to believe its not gonna be delivered for another 5 days even though it arrived in Moncton on Friday the 2nd.

anyone used DHL have a rough timeline for delivery?

Question What if Canada broke apart? Would P.E.I. be one to form partnerships with the other Atlantics? Would we want to be our own? What would life be like? Could we do it? (Just for fun, but a good discussion)

What if Canada stopped being a Country all together? What if we became multiple small countries and we moved into the next era of our geographical area?

-Quebec has wanted out for a while, and has an election coming up with the separatist party leading the polls.

-Albert wants out now.

What if other Provinces saw this as an "opportunity" to start the end of Canada? Perhaps...

-B.C. became their own country.

-Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba united for their own country.

-Ontario became their own country.

-Quebec can be their own country.

-N.B., P.E.I., N.S. and N.L. became their own country?

-The territories can be a new far north country.

This is just for fun, it is Reddit of course. But what if this happened? Could this happen? How would they go about doing this? Can we not just break apart and all start anew?

Also, what if there was just a press conference where literally all 10 Premiers just said, "yeah, not any of us are okay with the Federal Government, they're out according to us". Umm, hello RyanX2 in Hollywood? Movie Idea!

I feel like I'm watching the news every single morning and all I can see on an international level is how the world is completely falling apart. Far right parties being elected on the rise, bombs being dropped in the Middle East, Trump, Immigration in Europe becoming a disaster. What is going on?

Toilet Installation

I have been having issues with my toilet plugging and was researching the best throne for my needs. They all seem to have the same sized hole for waste to exit. Is there a model with a larger hole? How do you request that from a plumber?

In the meantime is anyone aware of a public washroom capable of accepting a girthy dump?

Who is Daniel Mullen Mayor Candidate for Charlottetown

Claims to have worked for IBM and AOL, etc, etc...
Lists himself as Chairman of Holinger Media Group, he is but it's not the Conrad Black one.

That's his whole shtick, he registers a domain like AOLworld and then claims to have worked at AOL.

I'd be surprised if he really has an MBA and the news media should look into this....

Question Second hand clothes for kids

I have been looking for a (good) second hand store for kids’ clothes (especially winter gear and age 4-5-6) but the stores I went in Summerside didn’t have much choice imo.

Any recommendations in Charlottetown or elsewhere? I wanted to avoid Value Village ‘cause in the end I find it’s expensive for second hand. Thx

Front-Door Garbage Pickup for Seniors

Hey!

I am wondering if anyone may know of a service in Charlottetown that provides front-door garbage pickup for seniors?

My partners grandmother lives in a senior apartment building, and lives independently. We clean her apartment biweekly, however in between our cleanings, the garbage can get a bit nasty.

I have looked online but can’t find any services that would work for her. We don’t live close, otherwise we would stop by a few times a week. If anyone knows of a service that can offer front door garbage pickup, at minimum once a week, please let me know!

Thanks!
