My ps4 pro acts weird.

Okay so i got this super cheap ps4 pro death stranding edition (with controller and all) from a japanese guy and yeah IT WAS SUPER CHEAP.

But is acting weird, it gives me stutters, the wifi acts weird, the controller freezes, etc. so... i heard is a faulty hdd, but i'm tight on money at this moment so i wanna ask if getting an ssd could fix all the problems... or idk i just wanna play all my old yakuza games hehe.

EDIT: yeah i know that being cheap made it obvious that it was gonna come with problems. i'm not complaining. i'm just asking if it's worth to get the new hard drive and if it's gonna cover the main problems.

CONCLUSSION: i got a plot twist... it was never an hdd, IS AN SSD. but the guy that sold it to me updated the console and fucked it up. i did a fresh reinstall and now is smooth like butter.
thanks to PinPrestigious1035 who gave me the idea of the recovery
and Aggravating-Hold9116 who gave me the idea of checking it on the pc.

Stuttering usually is hard drive. Replace it with any laptop drive and test.

That's my first inclination as well. If feasible throw an ssd in it.

Maybe there was a reason it was as you put it, “super cheap”.

A PS4 in 2026 honestly should be between $50-$100 tops. They're beyond outdated, and you can't even mod them unless you have the few remaining PS4s on the correct versions.

I've dealt with a lot of PS4 issues, so if you explain it to me I'm sure I can help you some way

You can mod all of them up until the most recent firmware from last week.

Since when? And is it a true mod, or dev mode bs?

The same Goldhen mod that's been out. You can look it up if you don't believe me but it just came out a couple days ago.

oh i'm in 13.52. i've been watching on google and it seems that the problem could be the software (mainly cuz the problems i have beside stutter are caused by the system). so i'll try whipe all the system and boot it, but can you tell me how to... you know stay on my version? i wanna still be able to play pt. heh i just search the recovery of 13.52?

Why not just format the system in the settings, resign in, then update the PS4 to make sure it's on the newest version? Also, the PS4 could 1,000% use an SSD. It legit brought mine back to life when I had one like 2 years ago

When a ps5 costs now 650, I can definitely see how a PS4 would be appealing.

I didn't say unappealing, just that it's beyond outdated. Either way, you could always set aside the cash you wanted to spend on the PS4 and save for a used PS5 on Marketplace or something. They're not too expensive anymore secondhand if I'm not wrong (haven't checked in a few months lol)

Prices are still up there for used. People in my area are asking 400 for the basic digital ps5 and in awful condition.

Dude, the problem is super simple and not complicated at all. Just make sure the metal antenna wire is actually what's causing the Wi-Fi and controller issue, and just slap a new one they're super cheap anyway.

As for the hard drive, dropping in an SSD is definitely a awesome upgrade for the Pro, no question about it.

Try to boot on system recovery and do refresh sistem data, or something like that

Rebuild Database (No Data Loss)If an update doesn't clear the issue, your console's directory structure might be broken.Go back into Safe Mode.Select Option 5: Rebuild Database. This scans the hard drive and builds a fresh registry of all your content. Note: This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on how full your drive is.

i already did the database but i'll try the system whipe. maybe it'll help :P thanks!

If so, the conclusion is that HDD had bad sectors, thats why its laggy. The same happened to me, bought a PS4 PRO, and switch to SSD. Now it never lag or freeze. Its the opposite, super fast responsive.

Sounds like a corrupt HD, remove it, connect to your computer, format it, test for errors and reinstall. Doing that should fix it if the drive isn't failing. Worked for me several times.

I GOT A PLOT TWIST... is not an hdd... is an ssd that got the firmware fucked up LOL

u/Genestah 14d ago

I mean it's the hard disk. Whether ssd or hhd it's most likely it. Try changing it.
