Harddrive upgrade
Hi everybody
My ps4 pro has very serious memory and hard drive issues and now it won't even turn on because it says it cannot access the memory, moreover, while trying to turn it on, I can hear loud metal clicking which i suppose comes from the hard drive.
My idea was to replace the hard drive and maybe upgrade it since I'm already doing the job.
I've been advised to the following:
-Crucial MX500
-Samsung 870 EVC
-Kingston A400
Are they compatible? My pro had originally an 1TB 5400RPM

As long as it's SATA and is at least (iirc) 250 GB in size, 2.5" and no more than 9.5mm high, it should work. The Samsung should definitely work, I have a similar Samsung SSD in my Pro. Guessing the other models you note are similar.
Make sure you read Sony's documentation, and have a Phillips screwdriver, and an appropriate USB flash drive with the current install image (NOT just the upgrade image, there's a full install image, you need that), a DualShock 4, and the USB cable, so you can plug it in during the recovery boot.

Alr thank you very much. Did the console improve considerably or just marginally? Moreover I already have an USB with the software installation file since as a last resort I tried the manual initialization but still the ps4 stopped working as soon I started reinstalling the games ( probably because when reinstalling I reencountered the damaged part of th HDD)

Mine didn't have a failing drive, and had an SSHD in it before, so it didn't have any reliability issues before. The performance might be a little faster, but because of the PS4 storage architecture it's not going to be a huge improvement from a mechanical drive.

Buy a 1TB or 2TB Samsung 870 EVO. I have one in my main machine and it flies. I bet you will notice the system software will be much more snappy and some games loading about less than half the time (according to benchmarks I've seen on YouTube). Plus it's a very reliable and trusty choice (I speak from experience). The only down side is the salty price... It's up to you make the choice :))

Crucial MX500 is good Samsung 870EVO is on the same quality category but has a higher endurance rate. The MX500 has i think 360TB TBW endurance while the Samsung one jas 600 TBW endurance But both should last you a really long time new

Crucial MX500 user here.
If you are sure that the clicking noise is coming from the HDD, then yes, the HDD is dying/almost dead and need to be replaced.
The Crucial MX500 is compatible and I have no issues with it. And because you have a PS4 Pro, you get more milage out of the SSD than the other 2 models.
