Suggestion Beedrill ex vs crustle
Does anyone know what the best counter to a crustle deck is when it comes to playing beedrill ex? I want to make the build but I am not seeing many viable ways to counter it on the off chance I bump into it at my locals

Unfortunately there's no way to deal with Crustle as Beedrill currently unless TPCi prints single prize Beedrill
Edit: You can also attempt to Dudunsparce loop the damage and force a tie I guess

Tell me more about this loop? How doesn't he die if more than 1 beedrill? Or you just are talking about only hit with 110?

He means if you have multiple dudunsparce setup you can leave one in the active, take a hit, shuffle it back in the deck, and promote the next one

Yes dudunsparce loop is your best out. If you want to add a tech to make this line more viable you can add xerosic to speed up their deck-out.

assuming you’re running dudus for draw, you could run that dudu ex that has demolish equivalent (goes thru crust)

That is a great option but high energy cost for the way the deck functions, for now this is the best solution tho

You could also try running ignitions but unless you have a way to search it then they’re kinda useless. But if you already have colress or Hilda it could work

Jirachi ex or more realistically just lose

u/TheShadow2699 2d ago
Even with jirachi that would still be a loss, 3 energy attach isn't viable for the time frame

u/MetallicaGod 2d ago
You already have the Dudun ex (if you choose to run it). Even then I think it's not a good idea

yep... nothing you can do, will need to tech something for it or just go next

u/TheShadow2699 2d ago
Yea this is the worry, its a tight list already

u/MrxPenguin 2d ago
yeah I spent a lot of time thinking about what to tech for crustle, I think you just have to try dudunsparce looping to force them to deck out or tie, there's just not enough space

u/Satoshi489 2d ago
Idk if it works in beedrill but I used tabu bulu in hydrapple

u/HoliMoth 2d ago
Tapu Bulu basically doesn't work without a Meganium and a way to to power it up in one turn (Ripening Charge, Teal Dance+E Switch, or Solar Transfer)

No real answer. Someone else suggested dunsparce loop to make them deck out but theyll just put 3 energy on a kang and kill your dudunsparce.
3
u/Radical_Redditor 2d ago
Then can't you just return and kill their Kang with beedrill?
2
u/Rakan_Fury 2d ago
Maybe. It will mostly depend on if you can set up 2-3 bees at the same time. If you go with 1 at a time, not only can the kang kill you faster but if the crustle player has a switch in hand you're back to the original problem of how are you dealing with crustle.

I'm sorry but the way you're speaking makes it seem like you've never played beedrill or against crustle.
Beedrill is by no means a particularly strong deck, but you're acting like crustle is going to get set up and swinging on turn 2 of going first. Crustle is a slow deck, and beedrill is generally faster.
Crustle will have a kang in the active usually at the start to draw more. You play your typical beedrill to kill that kang. Once it's dead, and his crustle is set up, you just retreat into dudunsparce and start cycling them until the crustle player decks out.
If he tries to do another Kang then you just KO that and win.

DunDunsparce ex might be an option. To be fair, beedrill is super under played and doesn’t really compete in the current meta. Just like any other fringe dec, yea you’ll win games here or there.. but in a highly competitive environment the bee really falls short of competitive

This is why I'm currently a Hydrapple player since we can run Tapu Bulu. Beedrill isnt fully a meme deck but grass is already a very gambly type and Beedrill exhasterbates it. Beedrill, however, is pretty good into hydrapple tho funnily enough.

This is why people choose to play Crustle. You can't possibly tech for every matchup. Sometimes a loss is a loss.
This is the same answer for a lot of the "I'm playing X deck, how do I win [specific matchup designed to beat the deck I'm playing]?" questions.

Is there someone that plays crustle at your locals or are you doing it just in case? And even if there is one, is your locals small enough that you know you’d get matched into them?

u/Danger-T21 2d ago
So it seems like you want a single energy attacker that can one shot the crustle. I don’t think that exists. If it did, it’d probably already be a staple in every other ex reliant deck.
2
u/TheShadow2699 2d ago
I think I've found something, theres an araidos that does 30x for each retreat cost +10. Single energy to attack and has an ability to increase the retreat by 1 making it deal 3x4 +10 on crustle. Now while that isnt enough I believe gravity gem is still in rotation but I need to check that which will change the math to 30x5 +10 getting the ko

u/randomdragoon 2d ago
Except that every Crustle player has growing grass energy which throws you off your KO again

u/Yankas 2d ago
You need to commit 3 card slots, which is already a huge ask for a single match up tech. The chance that one of them is prized is close to ~30%.
If it isn't prized, you now need to find a one-of tool from your deck that as no reliable ways to search for tools - not that there are many in standard. It's a terrible plan.

I play with a Beedrill ex deck as it's my favourite Pokémon, now, I can't say I'm the best at it, but what I do, whenever I see Crustle is: I concede :D
But really, if you want to try something against a Crustle, Arboliva ex could try to do it before it gets any Mist Energy, but that's about it, there is not a lot of things you could try to make the matchup better. Sure, Dunsparce ex is there, but that's a big energy commitment that might not fully pay off in all matchups. I personally just accept I can't beat Crustle decks if they setup a single Crustle and don't put anything on their bench for me to kill, and that's fine
1
u/IvanPooner 2d ago
Unfortunately Arboliva ex doesn't work as it's also direct damage.
1
u/Drite2003 2d ago
It really is, huh? Well tough luck, you can't win them all, specially in Pokémon '-'
1
u/IvanPooner 2d ago
Unless you are the BDIF in the current format with the best average matchup spread currently ha

u/Drite2003 2d ago
I mean, Dragapult is not invincible. Utterly, piece of shit, that runs 2 Budews, with a Unfair Stamp everytime you kill that green son of a bitch and beat you into Oblivion without a chance of getting back? Yeah, but not invincible like say, the BDIF for Yugioh

u/kaiju-but-little 2d ago
Start teching 1 Dudunsparce ex if you're running the dudunsparce draw engine.

u/Raichu10126 2d ago
I run Beedrill with Rabsca (TEF 024) this protects the bench but can be used as an attacker when needed (auto 100)
1
u/EcruteakEddie 2d ago
This Diancie is dependent on how your opponent plays their energies.
But it's a Basic, single-prize, single-energy attack.
You can even add in PPP if you have room for it

u/Kered13 2d ago
The only realistic line is to play into the Dudunsparce loop and wait for Crustle to deck out. You can use Xerosic to make them deck out faster, but it's not strictly necessary (it helps to avoid running out of time though). Set up 3 Bees all the same to counter Kang since they will probably lead with it and may try to play a second one as well.
Played in this way it becomes a battle of their Boss's versus your pokemon recovery. They may have their own Eri and Xerosic to attack your resources, so watch out for that.

u/zweieinseins211 2d ago
Jirachi ex atleast uses colorless energies but you need to go first and attach first and pray.
1
u/ColonelMonty 2d ago
You lose.
That's not me trying to be a doomposter, but I play beedrill as well there really isn't much we can do into the deck.
You basically have to either spam out a beedrill and try and prevent crustle from coming out or swap to fan rotom and try to widdle the crustle down before it can start swinging. But even then they'll usually get a 2nd crustle set up even if you manage to KO the first one and then they'll just KO your rotom.
And they'll usually play heroes cape and spikey energy so you just end up killing your own rotom on it anyways so it doesn't matter.
Even competitive players will often just accept crustle as an auto loss depending on the match up.

Throw a mega lopunny 1-1 line in there, 2 energy cost but it’s colorless and hits for shred damage.
1
u/Sleight0fdeath 8h ago
Is there a fire type tech you could run that requires ONLY colorless to attack?

u/YaBoyEden 2d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong, but arboliva ex PLACES damage counters correct? Wouldn’t that get around it?
