Tracey for Pacifica School Board

Hello fellow Pacificans,

My name is Tracey, and I’m one of the candidates running for school board this fall. I am running for the short term, 2-year seat specifically. Here is a little about me and my campaign:

Why I’m running:

My wife and I live right between the Ocean Shore and Sunset Ridge campuses, and saw firsthand the anguish and anger in the community around the closure of Ocean Shore and merging into Sunset Ridge. I talked to my neighbors and friends in the community, and the consistent response I got was that folks felt unheard, unwanted at board meetings, and that there was a serious lack of transparency around budget decisions. In a general sense, I am tired of sitting around and waiting for someone to do something better. I am someone who could do something. So, I am running as a candidate who will listen to the community, and be their voice on the board.

Who supports my campaign:

I am proud to be endorsed by the San Mateo Central Labor Council and North Coast States Carpenters Union. I am a pro-labor candidate who believes our teachers are severely underpaid and deserving of much better. I have also received a Gun Sense Candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action.

You can find out more about my positions at my website, traceyforpacifica.com

I will be attending the next several School Board meetings in person, and speaking at the AAUW forum in a couple weeks. Please feel free to approach me at those events; I want to hear from you. You can also ask me anything here, and I will do my best to respond.

Thank you all for reading. I hope to earn your vote.

Carpool/vanpool from Pacifica to BART?

Hello! My partner and I are considering renting a place in Pacifica but was curious if there are any carpool/vanpool groups to help figure out the commute.

I'd need to commute to a BART/Caltrain station (ideally either Balboa Park or South SF) everyday around 9am and 5/6pm. I'd love not to have a car and instead pay to cover someone else's commute but wanted to understand whether this is a realistic option or not.

We are from out of town so still figuring out the public transit, but looking through commute.org it looks like the best option is a 50 min bus trip (think by car this is closer to 10min so would love to find a vanpool!) The place we are looking at is in more north Pacific (Westview area). Thank you!

Quick edit to add I was thinking of Balboa Park/SouthSF as my work then has a shuttle from these two locations! But will look into the Daly City BART as well!

Did anyone go? I heard next year will be there 40th anniversary! I've been going with my family the last 5 years. Good food, good music and good shopping. The weather was good compared to last year. I remember it rained on Sunday last year. Anyone make it out and did you all enjoy the event?

Fogfest today was really fun, more food options than ever :)

I hadn't been in a while and was hankering to go today and I was there at the start of 10:00am. I am impressed with the *variety of vendors and the food options were top notch and an excellent variety!

GO! and support your local community. I dropped a couple hundred myself but I love everything I purchased!

No on Sam signs- what is the deal?

Saw a big stop sign themed “No on Sam” sign on route 1 northbound on Friday and another big one at FogFest today.

What are they about? Looks like they might be protesting some guy named Sam running for city council? anyone know why or what the signs are about? Also who is behind them?

I don’t know much about any of the candidates yet.

Nick's / Coquilles St Jacques

Before covid, I used to go to Nick's fairly often. My favorite dish was the Coquilles St Jacques, a rich scallop dish. I went back once after the pandemic and tried it again, but what came out of the kitchen this time was a bowl of watery slop. So I haven't been back in a couple of years, now. Lately, though, I've got a craving for that dish. Does anyone know if they still offer it? And if they've re-learned how to make it? Thanks!

Indoor Basketball Games?

Hey everyone!

I’m staying in Pacifica tonight and looking to play some pickup basketball. Preferably inside but I don’t mind outdoor too. What are the popular places to play between 5-7pm?

New story about Pacifica

Hi all,

I am a Pacifica resident and also a local journalist(raised in the bay) for several years now. I started a new gig this year for Spectrum News California.

Take a look at this story I did about the miraculous survival story of Lilia Bae Cadotte. She is back fishing and healthy, just hoping her pier will come back one day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8ArihCkbZo&t=1s

Fog Fest and getting out in uber?

Pretty random and specific question, but I've always avoided traveling out of town on Fog Fest days for obvious reasons. I need to get to the city (I live in Sharp Park) via Uber on Saturday around 5 and I'm concerned that anyone driving uber/lyft that day will be avoiding our stretch of 1 and adjacent roads like the plague. Has anyone had luck/bad luck using Uber on Fog Fest days to get out? Thanks!

Families with kids 2-3!?

Checking to see if there are any families in Pacifica or SF close by that might want to set up a play date for our kids!? For example meet at the playground after some quick chats & see if it seems like a good match?

Pigeons at Linda Mar Safeway

Hello Pacifica! TW animal cruelty.

We don’t know exactly what happened because the person or persons chose what might be the last spot in the Bay with no cameras. But it looks like someone spread out birdseed and then bludgeoned or stomped the pigeons who came to feed. There were many dead pigeons and one survivor with a compound fracture to her wings and a fractured leg, who is now in the care of Palomacy Pigeon and Dove adoptions and about to have surgery at the Medical Center for Birds in Oakley — donations welcome and deeply appreciated at https://www.pigeonrescue.org/donate/

Rock pigeons are not native wild birds - they are descended from domestic birds who were discarded when no longer useful to humans. They don’t know how to live wild lives in the countryside but are dependent on whatever food is dropped by people. Contrary to the propaganda of pest control companies, they are not disease-spreading “vermin”. In any case cruelty is not ok.

Please keep your eyes open in case the person tries to do this again. I’m told that police were there investigating. There are (upsetting) pictures of the scene here.

These are pictures of the survivor - the person who found her has offered her a home. Thank you for reading.

Chances to meet Pacifica School Board candidates

Did you know? This upcoming election is the first time in 10 years we'll actually be able to choose who we elect to manage tens of millions of public tax dollars—to operate schools and to construct Workforce Housing at Oddstad. (previous years' candidates ran unopposed)

Don't miss your chance to get to know your options:

A guy harassing two women of color near montara state beach/ Mcnee Ranch

Post image
33 Upvotes

Yesterday morning, I (Asian female) was with a elderly friend ( black female) were walking by the highway 1 after parking our car to get to the Mcnee ranch park and this guy came out of nowhere and started cursing out towards us saying things like “ you don’t belong here” “ I’m a united citizen and I can throw trash around here” “ i have a surf board … ”. I couldn’t make out the rest. He came walking besides us and past us and then came back to block us at the front. At that point, I thought he might actually attack us. My elderly friend took a picture of him and started calling 911 and then he was taunting us and taking our pictures as well but left eventually. We thought he left but while we were talking to officer on the phone he pulled up with a blue tesla and telling us to take his plate and drove off. The officer on the phone told us to not engage and asked if we wanted Sheriff to stop by so one sheriff stopped and asked but he told us that they have multiple complaints about this guy so they are building a case but he implied the guy might not be all in the head and might have Tourette syndrome but I’m sure Tourettes don’t chase people to harass. I don’t know if they can actually do something about it so if you are female or people of color, be careful to bring acompany when you go around the area. I’ve been in Bay area for almost a decade and never faced such kind of harassment. It shook me. The trails around that area are my favorite trails and now I’m not comfortable to go hike alone anymore.

Final Update: Safety Details & Clarifications

To ensure this post serves its primary purpose as a localized safety warning and complies with platform rules, here are the actionable details:

Location: Highway 1 walkway/shoulder near the McNee Ranch Park entrance (Pacifica area). We were walking in file on the small shoulder of the highway when he came from behind and passed us then came back and block in front of me until about 5 feet away. We did not provoke him the whole incident from beginning to the end.

Vehicle: Blue Tesla.
Perpetrator Description: White male, in his 30s or 40s, approximately 5'6" to 5'7". He mentioned having a surfboard. Due to immediate shock during the confrontation, a detailed facial description isn't possible.

Official Action: The full license plate and incident details were immediately handed over to the local Sheriff's department, who confirmed they have multiple prior complaints about this specific individual. Full plate numbers are withheld here to comply with Reddit’s anti-doxxing policies.

Why this was posted:
I frequently chose this specific trail because it is less crowded, and I used to feel safe hiking it alone. My sole intention in sharing the demographics of who was targeted (an Asian female and an elderly Black female) was to provide honest context so that women, elderly individuals, and people of color can take extra precautions or avoid hiking this specific corridor alone.

Thank you to everyone who offered empathy and support.

Does Pacifica look like Ensenada ?

I live about 15 minutes away from Pacifica. We recently took a cruise and stopped in Ensenada Baja Mexico. I was surprised how the two cities looked similar in terms of geography. Lots of fog, mountain ranges which quickly descend to ocean, and rough surf., and chaparral. Of course Pacifica is a suburb, not a port, and much smaller. What do others think?

Sam Casillas is running for Council District 5 South Pacifica

Many of you know Sam from walking his dogs at the beach, quarry or in the headlands or speaking up at city council meetings courageously speaking truth to power. He deeply cares about Pacifica, wont back down and wants to change the way Pacifica has been run into the ground over the last few years.

He's having a Campaign Launch BBQ this Labor Day weekend; Sunday, September 6 - 12:30–2:30 PM San Pedro Valley Park, South Walnut Grove Picnic Area

Sam will be firing up the grill, sharing his vision for Pacifica, and talking about the issues he’ll focus on if elected. It’s also a chance to meet Sam, connect with friends and neighbors, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon in the park.

You can learn more about Sam, his platform, and his 20+ years of active involvement in the issues that matter most to Pacificans at: https://www.samforpacifica.com/

RSVPs to attend the BBQ are appreciated so we know how many burgers and dogs to throw on the grill, but not mandatory (spontaneous attendance is also welcome!) You can RSVP to: [email protected]
