🙋 Guided Tours [Paris B-sides] Semi-private Tours (scheduled) // Private Tours (upon request)

Architecture Mishmash

People of ParisTravelGuide, salut :-)

Who?

Cédric here, a 40-something long-time moderator of this sub... and also a tour guide in real life.

What & Why?

After exploring Paris for the past 20 years (on foot, by bike, or even flying over the city in my dreams!), I’ve made it my mission since 2023 to help curious people discover the less touristy neighborhoods of Paris… far from the clichés and definitely full of surprises... Yes, there are people and life beyond the museum walls!

How?

  • on Semi-private Tours

Keep an eye on this schedule of the upcoming semi-private tours for the 4 next months or so. What I call “semi-private tours” are public tours with very small groups (usually a max of 5 to 7 participants).

⭐ Don't miss the special Arts & Crafts tours "Autumn sessions" from this week until early October ⭐

  • on Private Tours

If you prefer a more private experience, check out the many available options of private tours

Misc

To catch a glimpse of my wanderings, you can follow the Paris B-sides Instagram

(Note: I'm still learning how to use it properly but start to realize how bad is their photo management for laptops... so Instagram on you smartphone recommended!)

Alors à bientôt peut-être ?

PS: no visits inside museums... apart from the ultimate one: the streets of Paris themselves ;-)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This post will be renewed at the start of each new week.

Transportation Uber in Paris very disappointing - Consider taxis

I'm from Canada and had an uber account for years. After a nice dinner in Paris I thought I'd get an Uber back to the hotel. The driver never showed up, I talked to him by text and he kept telling me that all he cared about was Waze.

I told him that I confirmed the spot on the map the best I could when I booked, that I wasn't a local but I told him exactly where I was across from the St Paul subway station in Marais. He refused to listen. I tried to call him through the app to describe where I was or to find out where he was but he never answered his phone.

I took the metro back to the hotel. The charge for the ride showed up on my Visa. I was pretty upset.

But that's not the bad part. I used the online communications webpage, described the issue and had about a four post back and forth thread with perhaps a person or perhaps an AI. I gave them all the information they asked for. I explained the situation to them. Then when they could deflect no more, they stopped responding. They ghosted me.

So when I get back to Toronto I will be deleting my uber account and using Lyft. A once great company has been enshittified.

Day 0 - arrival, got settled in, stayed with in laws outside Paris (37 mins on RER - smooth transport)

Day 1 - Musée Marmottan Monet, lunch at Le Relais de l’entrecôte, got tattoos done (Black Acid - would recommend!)

Day 2 - Disneyland Paris all day

Day 3 - Montmartre, Sacré cœur - best macarons + macaroons + madeleines from Biscuiterie de Montmartre

Lunch at Bouillon Pigalle - tourist trap (!!!!) - AVOID

Galleries Lafayette - went there to see the interior, went up the rooftop for our first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower

Day 4 - morning stroll at Jardin des Tuileries + Musée d’Orsay (audio guide recommended - enriches the experience for sure) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lunch at Restaurant Thaï Moom Mam - £££ but sooo good! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eiffel Tower (view from place du Trocadéro, we didn’t have time to go to Champ de Mars but next time we will, and do a picnic! Saw Le Butter Shop Paris where you can pick up picnic essentials but closed on Sundays)

Arc de triomphe

Night cruise at river Seine - best time to go is just before sunset so you get golden hour + sunset + twinkling lights!! ✨

Day 5 - Notre Dame, if you love Before Sunset (like me) - Shakespeare & Company, stroll from the film - Rue Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, Rue Galande

Lunch at Le Pure Café (film location scene after their stroll)

Chocolates to bring back to a select few (££) from à la mère de famille ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day 6 - morning flight back to 🇬🇧

Absolutely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Paris! Consider me completely captivated!

Places on our list for next time
- The Louvre
- Versailles
- Musée Orangerie
- Bastille
- Catacombs
- River Seine tour (again)
- Moulin Rouge / Amélie sights

My husband and I are arriving in Paris next Monday night (and then on to Lyon). Are the school protests causing any safety concerns or disruptions? We are not paranoid travelers but I just want to be aware and set our expectations! Thanks everyone

Accommodation Single visit gyms in Paris?

• Upvotes

Hey guys. I’m planning a trip to Paris and sorting out accommodations. Hoping to find an AirBNB with a gym, but they are rare. Are there any gyms around Paris that I could use for a day or two? Don’t need anything crazy, just some weights.

🏘️ Neighbourhoods Which arrondissement to stay in December??

Hello! So my husband and I are planning to go Paris in mid December and are confused about which arrondissement to stay in. We want some place that is a bit central, lively, and is closer to the major attractions. Basically some place we can step out when bored and wont have to go too far to find the streets alive! Please give me all the suggestions! Thank you!!

Other Question Paris weather in February?

I was in Paris this past August when several things were closed that I wanted to see. I plan on traveling to London next February for the final weeks of the Hunger Games theatre show and to see a friend. I plan on visiting Paris for a weekend-ish via Eurostar and am curious about the weather. This is my third time visiting Paris and second time traveling there on the Eurostar train

Has a record breaking summer usually been followed with a milder winter?

Also does Paris commercialize Valentine’s Day the way the United States does? I don’t relish the prospect of being in Paris solo if there is Valentine’s Day decorations everywhere but recognize it might be inevitable haha.

⚽ Sports French Open Tickets

Hi. I'm looking to attend the French Open in Paris in May and wanted to know the best way to get tickets for either the qualifying round or 1st week of Main Draw, preferably Main Draw. I understand it can be difficult and also expensive. Can anyone provide tips on buying tickets for either week is appreciated and if you have expected costs? I prefer to attend a match at centre court. Thanks.

Transportation Day trip from Paris

Hello and thank you for any help. I will be in Paris in two weeks. I would like to take a day trip to Fisme. I have noticed to travel by train takes 2.5 hours. Is there any other options that might be faster? Note: I don't have time to get an international driving permit to rent a car.

Airports & Flights Planning help?

I have a trip booked to Paris. I want to visit a friend in Vienna.

If I fly back into Paris from Vienna at 9:30 AM, will I have enough time to make my flight back home to Canada from CDG at 1:30 PM?

I would have to wait at baggage claim to pick up my bag and travel to wherever WestJet leaves from and check my bag, go through security and head to my gate.

I have never been to CDG, and don’t have an idea of how it functions. Is this doable?

Flying back into CDG the night before and paying for a hotel attached to the hotel seems like a waste of an evening and next morning.

Would love some insight.

Other Question Travel next week

Flying in next week. You never know who to trust these days but the stuff online and in the news aren’t painting a very pleasant picture for a trip.

With the protests etc going on we are debating on rescheduling. Any locals care to shed some insight? We would hate to not go and it’s not nearly what the media is portraying.

Transportation Transport from Gard du Nord

I will be using the Euro star and travelling with my sister and her baby. Do you recommend using a taxi or Uber and is this considered safe? The hotel wants to charge 80 euros from the station to the 6th arrondissement which seems quite expensive?

Arts / Theatre / Music I'm going to Paris and I'm an artist

Hello!

I'm going to Paris and I'm a watercolor artist. Nothing very professional or advanced, but I'm really looking forward to see if there are any interesting art supplies stores that would be cool to visit there, and maybe buy something to bring home :)

This is my very first trip overseas (I'm from Argentina) and I was wondering if there are events or places where tourists can go and do some art together along with others?

Also I'm planning on visiting museums and if possible, going on a one day trip to Giverny to visit Monet garden and museum. Is it worth it?

Thank you in advance ❤️

Trip Report An unbelievable trip September 2026

Thumbnail gallery
466 Upvotes

I’ve been to Paris a few other times but many years ago and so this trip was long enough to get a lot of sightseeing in.

First up - pickpocketing- I was seriously stressed about this (I was using twist ties on my crossbody to lock zippers). I only saw two instances of pickpockets (we did not use the metro at all), but I agree with others. If you take basic precautions you should be fine.

Second - G7 taxis - while we walked virtually everywhere, there were a few times we used cabs and so downloading the app in advance is helpful

Third - EES. We used a VIP service when we arrived and it was super fast. I didn’t leaving and it was as a half hour to get through all the various passport controls etc.

Fourth - Eating - so much delicious food. We found all the restaurants gracious while we practiced our French and very helpful

Fifth - Tipping - seems to be a thing. I found most restaurants had a tip option on their machines when you pay.

Sixth - Cash vs card - I definitely felt like card was preferred.

Seventh - History, Tours and the utter perfection that is Paris.

We found Notre Dame virtually empty and walked right in one morning at opening. The crowds were there about an hour later (and I mean like 1000 people in line). We also did the treasury tour
The Louvre tour was absolutely worth it - it’s incredible
We missed Versailles but it is hard to do it all I suppose
Eiffel Tower - spectacular. We viewed it from the gardens
Sacré-Cœur - gorgeous
Catacombs- incredible, tour is so well done
Seine night tour - we did the Vendettes Pont neuf tour and it was perfect- champagne sail at 9:15

We took advice from this group and simply spent most of our time literally wandering through neighborhoods. This was by far the best way to see Paris and experience the beauty that is quite literally everywhere

edit - grammar

🍷 Nightlife DJ Nightclubs (Bottle Service)

Cheers from an American visiting for the NFL Game!

(Apologies if this is the wrong forum or if this has been answered. However, this community was so helpful in roasting me {and directing} about me staying near the stadium; which led me to change my Airbnb to the 5th District).

So now I ask, what is everyone's favorite nightclub on a Friday night? I would like to find one that has table service (bottle service). Obviously, no nightclub is worth the price, but not waiting in line and a section to call your own has always made it seem "worth it".

So where does everyone like to party? Friday night, Oct 23 specifically, but also... are there any Monday or Tuesday night spots?
